1. >>>>Might the Bills be working a deal where they send Henry to Tampa for Kenyetta Walker and Tampa's 2nd round choice. If so, I like this deal much better then what is being proposed with Arizona.<<<<

NE got Corey Dillon, who is twice the back Travis Henry is, for the last pick of the 2nd round.

Do you think, under any conditions, that TB would give us more than this for Travis Henry?

  2. Agents ruin the sport, without question. There are some good ones who are reasonable and work well with GM's. Then there is Rosenhaus, the Poston Bros. and many more who have huge ego's and zero integrity. Gimmie, gimmie gimmie. The long term health of the sport means nothing. "Salary cap be damned, my guy deserves a massive chunk of change and the rest of your roster is not my concern . "

That's why the Bills would be wise to draft another RB this year. If Willis has a 1500 yard season in 2005, watch Rosenhaus tell TD he wishes to redo his contract.

Most players are dumber than dirt, so they just follow the sychophant agents advice.

This is a great topic. Years ago, I read a book by former agent Mike Trope called "Necessary Roughness." He was around in the days of Howard Slusher, and when Lee Steinberg was cutting his teeth. He represented Lawrence Taylor, Chuck Muncie and countless other stars.

Trope points out that while agents get the blame, ultimately it is the player who is responsible for ridiculous demands. For example, T.O. signed one of, if not the largest contracts of all time for a wide receiver. He was certainly not coerced, and is by no means dumb.

Now, he wants a new deal with another huge bonus, and he is bad mouthing his quarterback for "getting tired" in the superbowl. Is this the fault of Rosenhaus? Is T.O. being duped?

As football fans, we cheer players, not agents, so it is much easier to lay the blame at the feet of a guy like Rosenhaus than MaGahee, should he demand a new contract. Imo, the players are at least as guilty when it comes to not honoring a contract.

Many of them have been pampered since their teens. They have been showered with gifts from boosters, and had other students take their college exams for them. We have seen one of our own players go broke and need a new contract. I have a hard time blaming his agent.

In summary, I view agents as an easy villian. We can cheer our favorite players and blame those greedy, rotten agents when things go bad, but in reality, it is at least a two-way street.

    Jmo.

  3. Ware is projected is an outside LB in a 3-4 Defense who will rush the passer.  Late 1st round pick. See him as a Chris Doleman type. Great pass rushing ability. Finds the ball quickly. Explosive first step and burst. Hustles all over the field. Has trouble shedding blocks and needs to get stronger. Concern that big Tackles will tie him up. Tweener type, situational pass rusher..  6-4 251 lbs.

Whether the Bills move Clements or not, it may be wise to grab a CB in round 2 or 3.

    302005

Thanks Mark. I have also seen him listed at 259, but I am more inclined to believe the 251.

Imo, this kid is going to have a great future. He had a great 40 time, has long arms and great pass rush moves.

If only there was a way. :P

  4. Oh I would hazard I guess that he'll stop about the same time the GOP in the State of Washington quit whining about losing the governer's race and drop their stupid lawsuit.

OH silly me, that's right, when it happens to the Dems "they lost, shut up and stop whining" but when it happens to the Repigs it's "where there's smoke, there's fire, so run to the courts, quick!".

    Puhlease.

    301834

    "Repigs" Debbie? Come on now.

  5. If I stuck up for you, it was an accident.

He posted a thread quoting your PM to him in detail, but leaving your name off. Now he said that post was yours.

By saying "out," I wasn't implying you had changed preference for the things you put in your mouth from cigarettes.

    301814

Whatever dude. You really did lob me one, but i will take the high road, OK?

Either way, I did NOT send this person a PM.

  6. One thing to remember about Woodson's contract is that it was inflated in 2005 for two reasons...

    1. Last year when the Raiders tagged him, they did so as an Exclusive Rights Frnachise Player, which somes with a larger price tag than the Non-exclsuive Rights tender.

    2. This year, when they opted to tag him again, they had to pay him 120% over last year's salary, which is how he wound up with the $10 M number this year.

Although Woodson's own number will play a role in inflating the franchise tag number next year --as it will undoubtedly be the top salary amongst the top 5 to be averaged -- the franchise number figures to be significantly less.

    301794

The number IS less, but not by much. Franchise Players are paid either an average of the top 5 at their position, OR 120% of their salary, but whichever is GREATER.

It was posted here that the number would be 8.86 million as I recall.

CP, are you out there? :P

  7. Nice of you to now "out" him. At least in the original post, you left his name out.

    Keep up your banner work.

As to "positive" responses, you're getting all the hugs you missed a a tyke. You should feel very happy.

I'm sure it won't be long before you write a post to let us all know that you are leaving the board. A final "look at me." Then another on your return... under another assumed name. And on and on.

    301716

Thanks for sticking up for me, but I have a confession to make.....

I never said that I was the smartest guy here, but I truly have zero idea what he is talking about. How did he "out" me? :P

  8. when I made public  your response (via Private Message) which quoted you it was removed. Is that unfair?

    301511

It is not up to me what is or isn't fair on this board. The mods do the work and it is thier responsibility. They do a great job, and this comes from a poster who HAS had posts deleted.

I think your posts create an environment which eccourages others here to insult eachother's religions. Naturally, I think this is not a good thing.

PS: The apology for rudeness does stand, and I am not hoping, nor have I ever suggested that you be banned. Again, this is not my decision.

  9. 1- This is not my area of expertise, but he certainly would be worth a top 10 cb salary and bonus.

2- I think he'll probably be looking for top 5 cb money

3- A healthy Chris Samuels and a lower draft pick would do  :(

4- Yes.. thus is the nature of the game these days.

    301481

I sense that NC saw what was paid to Winfield and has been drooling ever since. Btw, I do not blame him one iota.

As for Samuels, I think he was renegotiated very recently and is not an option.

I admire your courage for being ready to take the risk of losing NC with no compensation. He IS an extremely good player.

I just hate the thought of letting him go for nothing, and can see why TD might want to at least explore all options.

  10. IMO Nate needs to stay and get paid. He's a guy that consistently produces turnovers year in/out. He's also become an above average tackler/hitter and a very good cover man. Plus he has an incredible knack for getting yards in the punt return game and (obviously) is willing to play on special teams. He has good size and speed to boot. I will understand if we can't retain him NEXT YEAR due to over-the-top demands from his agent, but I will not be happy if we do not have his services THIS YEAR. Draft picks are far more of a crap shoot than a lot of people want to believe.

    301450

Fair enough. 4 questions if you will:

    1) If you were GM, how much would you be willing to pay NC? Please include the amount of the signing boune.

    2) How much do you honestly feel he would be willing to accept?

    3) Is there any amount of trade compensation you WOULD be willing to accept for moving him before this season?

    4) Are you willing to risk seeing him go and get zero return for him in 06?

  11. no team would have to pay clements 10M........they simply would sign him to a long-term deal and his cap charge drops 50-70% to the 3-5M range........same would apply to the bills if they signed him long-term.......

the charles woodson situation is far from over.......they are waiting for the best deal to emerge (much like the bills are with travis henry, and i don't see many on this board being critical of that strategy).........when all i said and done they will trade him for SOMETHING and they will recoup all their cap space........i would not be shocked at all to see a trade go down on draft day involving darren howard/charles woodson, as that is where the rumours are headed now......and whoever does trade for woodson will work out a long-term deal with him to get that cap charge down......

    301422

With all due respect, I think that you are wrong about Woodson. He can make 10 mil this season, and have a huge payday once again in 06. There is NO incentive for him to renegotiate, or so I see it.

I will admit that this is the first situation I can recall in which a player was seemingly happy about getting tagged.

  12. If the Bills make this deal, the Bills are starting to become the Oakland A's of the NFL:  Lets be successful, deal our best players for younger ones and hope to stay competitive in a NFL CAP enviroment to boot.  Now I know the A's have made the playoffs a few times, so its not a perfect comparision, but i hope you all understand where Im going with that comment.  I thought the cap was supposed to TOALLY even things out?  Gue$$ not

    301417

Very good post. The truth is, TD has a tougher job than a GM with a wealthier owner. Snyder seems to get almost any player he wants despite the cap. As we have seen, it does not always translate into wins.

Imo, the debate does center around whether a team is willing to be non-nompetitive for a few years and THEN make a serious run, or if the goal is to always field a solid if unspectacular team. I consider the post dynasty Steelers a good example of the latter.

Something to consider is the fact that RW appears to need high attendance figures to make a profit, and Paul Allen for example does not even need to make a profit. Big difference. In recent years where the Bills were not playing well, the attendance reflected it, and again, the gate seems to matter a ton to RW.

Simon floated the possibility of starting a thread as to these two varying approaches of field a winning team. I hope he does, because it is an interesting topic, and Simon is an interesting guy. :(

  13. What good reason would TD have for trading NC THIS year?

    301387

Because Joe NC is a UFA after 05. The "tag and trade" thing that worked so well with Peerless is less of an option this time. The Raiders tried this with Woodson who promptly signed the offer. Now, the Raiders are stuck with a 10 million dollar, no-cut contract for a cornerback, who will be a UFA once again in 06.

It has been posted here that NC would cost almost 9 mil if franchised.

This seems way to risky imo.

  14. OK, this is why we don't trade Clements now, because you can franchise him and trade him.  You won't get 2 #1's but you'll get at least one and maybe a player in return. As was so accurately pointed out, someone will give him a huge deal, why not get somethng out of it?

    301357

Because if Nate signs the deal, he will receive approx. 9 million GAURANTEED dollars and become a UFA once again the following year.

Woosdon just did this to the Raiders, or should I say that the Raiders did it to themselves? The franchise tag price is VERY high at the CB position.

  15. The wisest of the Marxes, Groucho of course, once observed that he never wanted to be a member of any club that would accept him.

    301329

Look, do you want an apology for my being rude? You got it. I am sorry.

The thing is, I think it is silly to argue about who has a "better" religion. This is simply my opinion. OK?

  16. I never knew Clements was one of our most beloved players.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the guy?  Very good player, not great, not very smart, and he's a punk who looks like he should be playing for the early '90's Dolphins/Cowboys.  If we're going to shell out big $ to retain a CB, I'd rather have given it to Winfield.  Also, he only made the Pro Bowl because a couple of other CB's decided not to go - not that the Pro Bowl means anything anyway.

    301338

Wow. Imo, Clements is clearly superior to Winfield. Also, as a Bills fan, character does mean a lot to me, and after having watched each and every game Clements has appeared in since he joined the team, I am not seeing him as a "punk."

  17. Does anyone realize that the bills were one game out of the playoffs last year?  This is not a rebuilding peroid, not a time to take a step back in order to plan for the future.  The future is now young QB's can get good teams over the hump, especially with great defenses to back them up.  Keep clements and pay him next year.  He plays many facets of the game and is a key aspect of their highly rated defense.

    301323

Your point is valid, but remember that there now exists a hole at LT and DT (although I am not as worried about DT).

Also, I dont know what your outlook is on JP, but I view him as a talented question mark. I for one cant get worked up because he makes some ridiculous remark to a little kid, etc. I need to see results on the field, and until I do, my expectations are not high, so I am not looking at 05 to be a season where the Bills make a superbowl run. Not yet.

While I would love to see Nate stay with the Bills, I think that the worst case scenario would be to lose him in 06 and get zero in return. This does not mean that I am in favor of just letting him go either.

Mark seems to paint the best possible scenario in another thread, and this imo is based on the premise that eith TD will not cough up the huge bucks, and/or Nate wants out.

  18. Just why would one choose a religion or denomination if it were not explicitly better (to them)? Should one choose an inferior one? Or one with glaring weaknesses and inconsistencies or fallacious roots or questionable legitimacy? I also believe United States to be the best nation in the world and I hope Brits/Canadians/ disagree. Finally, I hope your chosen set of beliefs is, in your mind, superior, if different than mine.

    301310

Yeah thanks. We are all secure in our knowledge that you favor your own religion over others. Congrats.

Carry on as you choose, but imo, your posts on this topic are out of place and I'm sorry, bordering on juvenile.
