  1. Don't even bother arguing it, the higher powers here at TBD have determined that it is a non issue that should be ignored and swept under the rug. None of us were there to witness it first hand so we are destrying this young mans character, and no charges filed = no crime. You don't want to join the "Moron Club" with me and Joe Miner because we didn't agree that it is such a non issue and everything is just fine with him.

Hardy should be reprimanded. It's probably not smart from a business standpoint for the Bills to do it themselves, but it looks like they are doing it through the back-channel route. Hardy needs to know showing up in police blotters won't be tolerated whether he is charged with a crime or not given all the talk about him growing up from his past incident.

  2. I don't think the Bills are at the point yet where vets at the end of their careers hop on thinking they are the missing piece. This is what concerns me a bit about the relative ease in which Stroud was obtained. Maybe the guy truly wanted to come here, but you'd think a guy with his pedigree and with many teams in need of quality DT's that Stroud could have picked where he wanted to go if he was healthy.

  3. Technically you're right. But for most people, they only realized the Jets game was taped. From a "perception" POV, many people see this as new evidence...and additional information to hate the Patriots.

Exactly. The only evidence up until now was the Jets tape and some very vague statement from Goodell about the Patriots taping other games. The Bills did a good enough job sucking on their own the past 8 years, so for me it was a bit of a jump to think the Patriots contributed to that sucking by cheating. Now that there is hard evidence of them taping the Bills, this directly affects me as a Bills fan and changes my perspective a bit because there is now no doubt about the depths of their cheating.

  4. Exactly. I'm really sick of everyone saying that this is no big deal, everyone does it, etc. etc. If it doesn't give a competitive advantage, then why is it against the rules? If everyone else does it, why hasn't anyone else been caught? This IS a big deal, and should be treated that way by the NFL. The media and the NFL spent 7 years marketing the patriots as the team that does things the right way, the guys that play as a team, that work the hardest, that stay out of trouble, blah blah blah. Now the tables have turned. This is a low class organization, from their dirty players like like harrison and wilfork, to their classless coach, to their CHEATING. Now they are being exposed and should be treated like the scumbags that they are.

How can Ralph say nothing now that it is official they taped the Bills? I know we sucked anyway during that time, but plenty of people invested hard-earned money, time, and emotion only to see an opponent dominate the division the last 8 years who balatantly cheated. One 1st round pick and everything is supposed to be OK? We can't blame sucking the last 8 years on the Patriots, but 1 f'in 1st round pick ain't gonna do it. If Ralph doesn't demand a greater punishment, it shows a huge disregard to the team's fans. Belichik needs to go.

  5. If we're going to pick a rookie that surprises, I'll go with Chris Ellis.

He's really in a good situation as the 4th DE. He has some time to develop into a complete player, but in the meantime can pin his ears back in pass-rushing situations and use his athleticism on special teams. It sounds like V Tech runs a similar defense to the Bills and he has 30 plus starts in that system.

  6.

Good find. 10 games??? I thought it was only 8 games. $78m is still an extra $15.5m per year in Ralph's pocket since season tickets still cost the same amount less 1 regular season and 1 pre-season game. The only thing Ralph loses is parking and concessions which can't amount to more than $1-2m per regular season game and much less for a pre-season game.

  7. Looking back, it truly is amazing and a testament to the coaches that we were 7-6 and playing in Cleveland for a playoff spot. Add Stroud, Poz, Johnson, Ellis, Mitchell, McKelvin, Simpson and some more corner depth and we might have a defense that can get off the field. I just hope with all these new faces on defense that they can play with the same heart the under-manned guys played with last year.

Lack of a Tight End is still the #1 worry. Unless Hardy has a rookie-of-the-year type season, the offense really hasn't improved much on paper. God forbid if one of starting OT's goes down.

  8. The draft went about as well as it could have in the 1st 3 rounds. 3 out of the top 4 needs were filled with non-reaches. Edwards and the offense still need an upgrade at Tight End - it is now the weakest position by far on paper...Royal is mediocre and our 2nd Tight End is either Teyo Johnson, Schouman, Fine, or the other guy the Raiders cut .

  9. Assume at pick #10 NE picked McKelvin and an alternate timeline was created from that point forward-Who do the bills pick at 11 and 41 then????????????

Probably a trade down with Detroit since they supposedly wanted Mayo. But that still leaves us with Cromartie or another CB at 15 unless the Bills had Devin Thomas rated higher than every other team. The Bills really would have been stuck at #11 if McKelvin didn't fall. Knowing what we know now, the Bills were extremely fortunate things broke the way they did including Hardy making it to #41.

  10. I've been looking through a few of the players.

Brandon Flowers, about 1 minute in.... WOW!

Flowers looks good but our CB's have the same height/size issue as our WR's. One guy who's not getting talked about a lot because of his pot-smoking is Aqib Talib. The kid looks impressive on those highlights and Kiper has him rated as the best CB and a Top 10 pick. Strictly from his play on the field, I think he'd be ideal here. He's big and always seems to make plays and be around the ball.

I'd love to see a trade down with KC which included one of their 3rd round picks and a swap of 2nd rounders getting us up to 35. With #17, I'd take Talib or Cromartie (if Talib can't kick his weed habit). At #35, we'd be in good position to catch whichever one of Hardy, Sweed, or Kelly falls.

  11. Lynch has so far proven his worth as the 12th pick. I agree we need an upgrade at WR desperately but there has to be a WR worthy of #11. Things don't always work as neatly as Lynch and #12 did last year. That's why I think there's better than even odds of a trade down. Chicago, Detroit, and KC all have multiple 3rd round picks. Philly would probably like to get a OT before they all go off the board. Same for Chicago and KC. The value at #11 will most likely be OT and luckily a lot of teams behind us have a need and the ammo to move up.

  12. One of my good friends works for the Indiana football team, and has always told me that Kansas City has been all over their campus, and all over Hardy. Of course, I told him there's no way they pick him at #5, and they are probably looking at him in case he slipped to them in the second round. He always told me he thought the Chiefs would trade down to get him, I told him he was crazy.

Now, KC has the 17th pick from the Vikings, and I wouldn't be surprised if they take him there. Remember, they also have a top 5 pick in the second round, so they can still get a really good offensive lineman or defensive end there if they need.

With Hardy at 17 a possibility, and the Eagles looking at Devon Thomas at 19, a WR at 11 no longer becomes a "reach." If we want either of those receivers, we better stay put and pick him at 11.

    Just a thought.

Bowe is their best young player who they just drafted in the 1st round last year. They have so many other needs.

  13. Evans has 2 years left, and the last year he can void if he chooses. He said that last year when he was frustrated with an anemic offense, mostly because he felt that JP would get him the long ball and he thought that JP had lost his job to injury. He's since stated that (in so many words..) that he's fine with Trent as the QB. Maybe he's being a good soldier, who knows.

Saturday and progress on Lee Evan's contract extension are not connected, they're just getting started in the negotiation process. Lee would certainly want to see what a Turk Schonert offense looks like, how Trent handles the the QB job in his 2nd year, what help they give him, how much money they sign a #2 receiver for, all that.

Plus, Lee Evans has never demonstrated that he's a show me the money kinda guy. I'd be real surprised if anything happens before late fall.

Unless the voidable year is worth more than the franchise tender for a WR, and I am sure it is not, he is voiding the final year. I doubt he gets traded as well, but I don't think Dallas could find a more perfect fit for Romo and opposite Owens than Evans. Jerry Jones has admitted he's had discussions about acquiring a veteran WR. Everyone assumes it's Roy Williams, but Jones wants a homerun threat for that offense and Evans is the best deep-ball threat in the NFL. I like Edwards, but his strength is not the deep ball.

Hopefully, Evans and the Bills will get something done, but what could the Bills be waiting for? His price tag isn't gonna go down. It's most likely Evans who is waiting and this looks like Nate Clements part II.

  14. Who said Lee Evans wanted out of his current situation or wasn't interested in signing a long term deal here? Certainly not the man himself or his agent. He's under contract for 1 or 2 more years, and the Bills are saying that they're serious about extending him. Would the Bills trade him? Possibly, but as Buftex pointed out, they'd be right back where they started from, needing a strong #2 receiver to compliment whomever they got to replace Lee Evans.

Evans has 1 year left on his contract. He publicly stated he wants Losman as the QB. He has more value to a team like Dallas or Philly with vertical passing games. Like Clements, if Evans knows a team will break the bank for him next year, he most likely will not sign with the Bills. I would only trade Evans for another WR like Boldin, but what if Jerry Jones or someone else offers something close to what KC got for Jared Allen? It all depends on how the contract negotiation is currently going with Evans. I would think both sides will know how serious each other is about re-signing in Buffalo before Saturday.

  15. I am surprised we have not heard any Lee Evans trade rumors if teams like Philly, Dallas, and the Redskins are making unsolicited trade offers for WR's who might want out of their current situation. Evans would be ideal for both Philly and Dallas and both teams have a lot value to trade. I'd love to keep Evans but if he isn't interested in signing a long term deal here, I'd rather get maximum value for him now.

  16. A trade with Philly for Sheppard would be ideal, giving us a quality corner to add to the mix and still allow us to draft a top-flight WR in the first.

How about this 3 way trade? Philly's 19th pick and Lito Sheppard to Buffalo, Bills 11th pick to Detroit (where they can take Harvey), and Philly gets Roy Williams. Will not happen, but makes sense on so many levels.

11.Buffalo Bills - CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (Tennessee State)

From what we have heard, Rodgers-Cromartie is the top dog on Buffalo’s board. They get the man that they want.

take it for what it is worth, but viewing a few more mock drafts this morning and I see DRC on man yof them all of a sudden. THis guy is extremely athletic. He had a amazing workout.

    6-2 184 and runs a 4.33 40....

    Compared to

    Mcelvin 5-10 190 4.38

    Jenkins 5-10 197 4.38

I think we may have someon to match right up with Mr. Moss.

I love the pick just as long as we can somehow get one of the BIG receivers:

    Thomas- Hardy- Sweed- Kelly- Nelson

Even if they wanted him, why would the Bills make a sloppy mistake like letting people know that's who they want? If Harvey isn't there, I think the Bills do their best to trade down and then take the best CB or WR.

  18. I dont think that Flowers will be on the board in round two, if he is we need to get him. I personally would love to get Harvey then Flowers. I might get destroyed for saying DE and CB would make me happy on day one but I really like alot of the defensive players in this draft. I wouldnt mind getting Groves to play LB for us either on the weak side to take over for Crowell next year. On offense I like Thomas and Albert although on the priorty list a gaurd is the lowest priorty it has been in a decade but you can never have enough O-lineman. I will be happy if the Bills get any one of these five players, totally blown away with two.

Good post. As other posts have stated, the Bills aren't going to fill all their needs in the 1st 3 rounds. I'll be happy with the best DE, CB, WR, or TE available with the 1st 3 picks. That could very well be Harvey in the 1st, then a DB like Flowers or Reggie Smith in the 2nd. If things were to fall that way, I think the Bills would have to consider trading back up into the 2nd round and getting the best WR or TE available.

  19. Let me start off by saying that I am NOT "for" picking this guy, I'm simply generating a friendly debate here.

So, give me a moment here folks, and allow me to play "Devil's Advocate" here, ok?

I know he had those "character concerns": Allegedly hitting his wife/child two years ago, and arguing with his coach, resulting in a suspension.

But I ultimately feel like, character concerns aside, that he fits the bill of what we need from the WR position.

I'm talking strictly from a football stand-point here.

At 6'6" he's as big as WRs come. 36 TDs in 32 games? Isn't that EXACTLY the kind of redzone production we need?

Imagine the avaerage corner, 5'10", trying to out jump a 6'6" former basketball player. Good luck!

He's a match-up nightmare, especially in the redzone. The redzone? Hey, isn't the place where we couldn't score and had to settle for FGs all the time? I think it is.

Anybody here who's seen Plaxico Burress play can have an idea as to what Hardy would bring to the table. Only Hardy is more athletic.

Like I said people, I'm not suggesting we pick this guy, but have an open mind and take a look at this guy from the position of what positives he could bring us.

Height and jumping ability are certainly important given the midgets we have at WR, but so is the ability to present a big target over the middle and absorb contact. Multiple game-changing interceptions were thrown to Evans on 10 yard slants to the middle of the field where both the QB and WR were clearly uncomfortable with the route. Can Hardy take the contact? Same with Sweed. I haven't seen enough of these guys to answer that.
