Joe Biden is dying in front of our eyes!
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to JaCrispy's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
When you say "I would argue that there are lines in the sand...", it's important to understand who you are and why your perspective is complete irrelevant to reasonable people. Here's a list of people and crimes you've stated should be executed, many of which include 'pandering, demonstrating and picketing': https://www.businessinsider.com/capitol-rioters-who-pleaded-guilty-updated-list-2021-5 As for my perspective on the videos, I'm reasonable enough to understand that speaking directly on the subject doesn't imply I'm defending it, it's simply an acknowledgement of reality. False narratives exist, Fergie, and your line in the sand doesn't change that. "51 Intelligence agents" was a false narrative. Hookers n' urine was a false narrative. "Mitt Romney paid no taxes" was a false narrative. The illegitimate election of 2016 was a false narrative. The stolen election of 2020 was a false narrative. The 'Benghazi was caused by a filmmaker' was a false narrative. Nicholas Sandmann. Kyle Rittenhaus. "...anonymous sources deep within" often create and sustain false narratives. Deceptive editing of news stories. Slippage. The list goes on and on. I'm a centrist with a conservative point of view, happy to agree with any sane person that we would be better as a country if all this sort of thing was eliminated. You're just not that person. Michelle Obama. -

You would think after a couple hundred years of misinformation, outrageous comments, slander, duels, lies, and saying horrible things about ones political opponent (often only to partner with them a short time later), that somehow this is an afront to political decency. Change the players, you would hear crickets, part 45. -

People are gullible, but then they always have been. So? -

Yeah, it’s the WaPo, so you have to wonder if what they publicized is accurate too. Besides, let’s assume there is some selective editing. Does it really matter? Politics is a bare knuckle game, and always has been. -
Holy Fook Frank—you’re onto something big here—you know FDR made absolutely no statements about the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor until after it occurred? And…what did the “police” say about the “assassination” before “JFK” was “shot”? Get a packa Lucky Strikes, a bottle of cheap whiskey, a pencil and scratch pad, we have some work to do.

The hypocrisy with respect to law enforcement is quite obvious, but this goes even beyond that. You’ve got Tibsy pulling for life, Fergie fantasizing about a death sentence…while I support following the rule of law. I’ve disagreed with more than a few conservative friends on this issue, that being we have to have order and orderliness in situations like that. Change the facts a bit, and people like Tibs and Fergie are at the plaza, or complaining about law enforcement excess. What is interesting to me is that if the process followed in pursuit of J6 defendants was followed in society generally (that is to say the time, effort and techniques followed to solve a crime), the world would be a safer place. Alas, the average citizen is not in the protected class.
-
You are advocating for Soviet-style prison sentences for defendants, where all go to the gulag for life. I’m advocating for following the justice system we have here, Tibs, where rehabilitation and reintroduction into society should be the goal. Part of that process can involve pardons and commutations. If you do make the move, fyi, it’s hard to do in a U-Haul. Safe travels though.

Thank you, I had a wonderful Father’s Day, part of which I spent reflecting on how fortunate I was to have such a wonderful father of my own. I realize more now than ever what a gift I was given, and for tonight, I’ll roll with that. Have a good night, Kay. -
I would say that applies to both parties. Same with claims of elections being rigged. Same with “no one is above the law” and when complaining about special treatment for the other guy but supporting it fully when it’s your guy. Be that as it may, it has nothing to do Presidential pardons or people being given life sentences. Do you believe, as does Tibs and perhaps Scraps, that all people arrested and charged for activity on 1/6 should have been given life sentences?
-
But that’s not how the justice system works, Tibs. If you have a problem with that you should move to Russia! Last time you asked me a question, I answered and believe you ended up on a milk carton. I find that a waste of time. I spoke out against the actions of 1/6 defendants on 1/6. I’ve not changed nor waivered on that, but if you are advocating for the Tibs mode of locking people up forever because they chanted something, you’re on the wrong side of history.
-
I’m not in favor of across the board pardons, but pardons/commutations on a case-by-case basis makes sense. Your statement “Lock them up forever!” hits to the heart of why. You’re advocating for what amounts to lynch mob justice, and that’s not what our system of justice is supposed to be about. With 1/6 defendants, we’re seeing/hearing stories about a justice system being contorted to make the action fit the penalty desired, excessive sentences, and long delays in getting defendants to trial. It actually reflects a deviation from the standards we see in our cities and towns across the country, where the movement is to get defendants back in the street quickly, bail reform and a movement away from criminalizing criminality like shoplifting and theft. Those guilty of serious crimes, assault etc…prison sentences make sense if they are consistent with other sentences handed out. Of course, generally, any individual pardoned issued by a president will likely be criticized by the other side, so we’ll just have to see.

Trump 2024?
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Absolutely, just like explaining away Biden’s pilfering of classified docs, disclosing to his book partner, and his partner destroying evidence critical to the SC inv….after proclaiming indignation and assuming only Trump had documents to begin with. Common sense and human behavior suggested that made no sense. -

Doesn’t this make sense though? He has worked in and around big business, politics, high society for decades, without much fuss until, well, you know. I was speaking with an attorney friend the other day, an accomplished guy with political connections that run deep in NYS. He’s from NYC or thereabouts, and was sharing his thoughts on the election. He’s not a fan of either candidate (but will support Trump), had some kind words for old Biden (not old age Joe, but Joe of old) as a statesman in spite of his politics. In spite of his tendency to spin tall tales (some say he makes things up more than he lies), it’s fair to acknowledge that. He was a guy like someone we all probably knew, blustery, a tendency to exaggerate, a quick wit, and on some level, likable. There’s not much left of that guy, but he existed. -
Racially motivated murder at Tops

Your father may have been a victim of the time and place he lived. People lived in a smaller world, with less access to information, societal norms established as they were, and (I’m assuming) during an era when people stayed within groups (ethnic, race) because survival often dictated it. When you factor in personal experience and trauma that people may have experienced, is it any wonder people developed animosity, distrust, hatred for others based on color or ethnicity? In fact, that likely wasn’t the exception, it was the rule. The real question imo is were roles reversed—you the parent from his era, he the child of yours, what might that look like? Anyway, my only point was that this guy is insane, certifiably, irretrievably and definitively based on the standards of any time. -
I think you’re correct here. I was reading the comments from Jillian Michaels (fitness trainer, businesswoman, reality tv personality) and her view on the state of California. In a nutshell, too extreme for her. https://eu.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2024/06/13/jillian-michaels-california-move-victimology/74088965007/

I’m guessing the first ring suburb gives you the walkability/everything at your disposal housing you’re looking for? Would that move allow you and your wife to consciously uncouple from your automobile(s), assuming of course you haven’t already done so? I live in a first ring suburb, I can’t see it happening for me. -

This is why I thought that the first condition would be the release of all hostages, and why, now, I'd suggest you reconsider your embargo on criticizing Hamas. https://nypost.com/2024/06/12/world-news/blinken-slams-hamas-for-rejecting-gaza-cease-fire-deal/
