Attempted Assassination on President Trump (x2)
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Beast's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Off the top of my head, I criticized his response to 1/6, his decision to hold a rally on 1/6, his comments on POWs, his decision to expose his throat to his political enemies by hiding onto classified document, while acknowledging that virtually every player on that level has likely held onto classified documents and would be on FBI sweep away from the same issue. I’ve criticized his decision to protest the 2020 election in the manner he chose to do so. I’ve criticized his often chaotic approach to running the WH. I’ve criticized his approach to wooing independents. I criticized his declaration that Team Obama had wire-tapped Trump Towers, and was quite surprised later on to learn the extent to which the Obama admin/DNC actually surveilled his campaign. I won’t criticize allegations made by a third or fourth party in a book, but will criticize you for misrepresenting what you’re sending over. I’ll also point out that your hero, Margaret Sanger, was most likely actually guilty of ending the lives of disabled people, and that your comments in support of her are troubling. No, but do you remember when Tibs declared his support for Margaret Sanger and her approach to eugenics? That was a mad long time ago, huh? -

We’ve been over it multiple times—your argument was she was simply partnering with other like-minded people in pursuit of eliminating undesirables, as if that made it better. That’s extreme, and by extension, you’re extreme. 🤷🏼♂️ Finally, I’ve shamed you into seeing the light. Sadly, I’m not sure you believe what you’re saying here, but I hope you do. No, someone said someone said Trump said something. We get a lot of that. We do know, however, what Margaret Sanger thought about people dying, and what you think about her. Again…🤷🏼♂️ -

Couldn’t access this link in my last reply. Your question is “did I see the the interview about Trump”? Are you suggesting there’s an interview with Trump embedded in the link you shared? The article you linked was a story about a book. Oh, and all things considered, your position on Sanger is pretty extreme imo. -

I keep thinking you’ll stop, consider how you’re twisting yourself into a pretzel to support a person who supported eugenics, but it’s pretty clear where you stand. It’s crazy, but whatever. Yes, I acknowledged the differences between then and now a couple times. The thing is, you weren’t born a hundred years ago and yet have supported Sangers pursuit of Eugenics a few times. Again, it’s crazy to me, but you have to be you, I guess. -

Billions of people have watched loved ones waste away from all sorts of ailments and not run toward the darkness of eugenics and the notion that one race was inferior to another. Your most recent argument seems to be that she majored in Birth Control and only minored in Eugenics, and thus you defend her actions across the board. That’s extreme even for you. Most people live complicated lives, and as Frankish suggests above, applying the standards of today to those who lives a hundred years ago is silly. However, the part of her life that is roundly criticized as backwards, racist, intolerant and heartless is not in dispute. Tibsy on occasion represents the extreme, and people in that mode often have odd takes that are hard to rationalize. -
I suppose it has to be considered, as does the fact that the statute of limitations was temporarily reinvented, the lower standard of proof required in a civil trial, and the plaintiffs difficulty in remembering key details of whatever interaction may have occurred. Add to that the venue in which the civil trial was held, the recognition that some venues will tend to be more liberal than others, that value of injury varies widely from place to place, and that the standards that exist in NY are different than standards in other states. We should also consider this the relative faith in the justice system generally, and why reasonable people can hold different perspectives on fairness and civil verdict outcomes. This poll suggests a whooping 60%+ of respondents don’t have faith in the system. https://willowresearch.com/american-confidence-courts/ It’s the best we have to offer for now, but imperfect to be sure.

You’re crafting a narrative to fit your works view. It’s been a hundred years, Tibs, and extreme views of the time have thankfully been replaced with more moderate views. Sanger was a proponent of cleansing the human race of undesirable/irredeemables. That some of the policies she promoted made sense in some shape or form doesn’t change that. 4th is like that old lady hanging off the front of the boat in Titanic—his heart is a deep ocean of contradiction. -
Trump 2024?

We’re just getting started here. Harris as THE front runner is different than Harris as the after thought. Maybe she’s Neo, maybe she runs away with it, maybe she implodes. Bottom line, there’s plenty of race in front of us. -
I’ve always loved the movie theater experience with a good movie showing. As I’ve gotten older, I probably enjoy it less because story lines seem to be recycled, I’ve seen a ton of movies, and Hollywood at times just doesn’t seem all that creative anymore. On a separate note, I’m not much into listening to actors discuss roles and their approach to character development. I tend to think the actor(s) are a bit weird, and that is to say, people I wouldn’t necessarily enjoy spending much time with. That’s a broad generalization of course, and deals with those at higher level of fame.

Horrible. My first boss, who died recently, was a Vietnam veteran. He told the story that while at a base in Vietnam, there was a local family that befriended the soldier on the base, trading goods for food, candy etc. So one day, the mom brings her children with her as usual, and a helicopter full of soldiers lands nearby. As the local lady and children continue on, she reaches into her basket, pulls something out and throws it in the chopper. The things explodes, multiple deaths and casualties are obvious to anyone in the area. A soldier near my former boss, aims his weapon, shoots the family and according to his account, 'cuts them in half'. I was young, amazed and horrified by his description of events. I guess if you see enough of this stuff, some really horrific things can happen.

Man, that’s a lot of words to describe children killed in a rocket attack. -

And Biden was mentally fit for office. That was a gas, man. -
Within reason, certainly. Tax is an important part of the system of governance. The challenge is that in spite of the enormous sums of money going into the tax pool from a near endless variety of source, how much actually makes it to the point of improving “the quality of life for all Americans”. To boot, for those that pitch the notion of affordable health, what’s the current model for doing that efficiently? Medicare? Medicaid? The VA? The US Government in general? Like any household planning for a successful journey through life, it starts with identifying waste, inefficiency, consolidation and rational spending to see where you’re at before you throw more money at the problem.

Josh is a highly paid professional, and I have a forum where I can watch him. It’s not the Olympics. I’m not at all certain I would watch him and the US Football Team playing the South Korean Nationals as an Olympic sport. I understand others see it differently, that’s ok with me. I recognize and respect the time, commitment and athleticism that defines those athletes, it’s just not for me. As for the true amateurs, I agree 100%, though many of these sports seem less amateur than professional just based on the commitment required to make it to that level. Your Russian friend sounds like she knows the deal. 🤫 I know, generally, but that doesn’t move the needle for me one way or the other. In fairness, the NBA doesn’t interest me much either, beyond the occasional dazzling array of 3s.

Hmm. Perhaps not surprisingly, different children have different perspectives. I'd say conclusions are varied and evolving. There have been times when they questioned my perspective (and when I suggested that the agenda of the folks offering guidance should always be questioned, that included mine), times we argued or disagreed here or there, times we agree. Mostly, the conclusion seems to be that they need to think for themselves, and make personal decisions based on what they believe to be in their best interest all things considered.

I think what you’re actually saying is that North must communicate in the way you have judged acceptable to be acceptable to you. That’s fine, of course, for you. Beyond that, though, it has nothing to do with anything remotely resembling what you claim it means. It seems to me that most people would be appreciative of the light of love and understanding as laid out by North in his post about his family members. The arbiter of fairness, equality and decency here would really be North’s brother-in-law and his partner, wouldn’t you agree?
