  1. Hmm, not a real big change in the Senate yet. Maybe that speech will take some more time. Let's see how it goes http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/03/politics/gun-control-obamacare-planned-parenthood-senate/index.html
  2. Ever see the Monty Python skit called 'Argument Clinic'. At one point the guy walks into the wrong room and gets repeatedly insulted. "I came here for an argument" "Oh sorry, this is abuse" There's a difference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQFKtI6gn9Y
  3. The ending to that Lions game looked just like a typical Bills collapse. Bad plays, stupidity, bad luck combine to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
  4. I heard that the shooters weren't wearing bulletproof vests. They had military style clothing that had lots of pockets that they filled with extra magazines, making it look like body armor. LA Grant - good try but wrong forum. One might think that with all the gun knowledge and just general brilliance here that brainstorming might work. Unfortunately for brainstorming to be effective people need to feel comfortable enough to throw out ideas that have not been completely thought through. In any professional brainstorming sessions I have been involved in, there were 2 main guidelines. There are no bad ideas and there will be no personal attacks. As you can see....wrong forum. This forum (PPP) is way too cliquey with too much disrespect and name calling. You would think that a discussion group would appreciate newcomers with new perspectives, but it is just the opposite. Newcomers are basically badgered and insulted until they get frustrated and leave. Of course, if you like trading insults, PPP is a fine forum. Again, nice try.
  5. Um, so I guess you don't think the Feds will investigate the Chicago Police Dept practices even now? I disagree. Too much fishiness in public view.
  6. So are you saying that the Mayor kept the video from being released? Is that the fact or is that your speculation? I have now heard from various sources that it was the Police Superintendent, Mayor Rahm, the police union, and even some federal office. I suppose the responsible party will claim that they didn't want to inflame the public. It seems that there may be more job losses to come once the whole story behind the withholding in this case becomes clear, Also, if the system in place allowed this incident to be swept under the rug, there are likely several other old cases that will now be investigated further, probably by the feds
  7. Has your analyst ever explained to you why you are such a jerk? I mean, was it your parents, the orphanage, juvey, the asylum, or just plain old head trauma? Why bother replying to posts here if you don't want a discussion of the issues?
  8. Trial? There is only a trial if there are charges. That was the problem in this shooting. It appears that the officer was not going to be charged at all until the court forced the police department to release the video to the public. So, 13 months after the incident and 1 day before the release of the video, charges were finally brought against the officer. It sure looks like an attempted cover up of the police shooting. If the video does not get released, would the officer have ever gotten charged?
  9. Hmmm, maybe there is something there to protest about. You folks that don't think so....let me ask you. If the police killed your family member, would you think it OK that they refused to release the police video of the incident?
  10. http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/25/us/laquan-mcdonald-chicago-shooting-main/index.html Lots of good questions...and reasons for protests
  11. So, nothing to see here? Move along? Are you kidding me? How about the fact that the officer is just now getting charged? It was 13 months ago that he basically assassinated that kid with 16 bullets. He was still working as a police officer for a year after clearly committing murder. If that video of the shooting was of Citizen 1 shooting Citizen 2 or a police officer, that shooter would have been arrested immediately. It appears charges only came after a judge ordered the shooting video released to the public. Why? There are bad apples in every profession, including police officers. One systemic problem is that the vast majority of officers do not act to remove the bad apples. They are reluctant to turn in bad officers and cover for each other, typically. With the explosion of video, many are now paying a price for protecting the bad apples. They are all getting painted with the same brush. Another issue is the apparent policy to, once you start shooting, to keep shooting until the clip is empty. That is fine policy for war, but it is wrong for police, especially when dealing with unarmed 'criminals'. I know this Chicago kid had a knife, but still, any threat from that knife disappeared long before the officer stopped shooting.
  12. Is this the article you are referencing? This article talks about the brain's reward system, noting similarities between exercise and drug use. It doesn't say that cannabis is better than exercise. http://www.cheatsheet.com/health-fitness/exercise-vs-drug-use-the-similarities-may-surprise-you.html/ If that is not the article, please provide a link to the article that says pot is better than exercise. Or, are we again witnessing the fact that you can't stop posting in this thread though you have absolutely nothing to add to this discussion?
  13. Lol No, in fact, cannabis is terrific at treating azzholiness syndrome. Azzholiness Syndrome is the name given to a group of characteristics such as close-mindedness, name calling, belligerence, the need to put down and attempt to dominate others. Sound familiar? If not, I suspect you were not listening very well. I don't have any study links but I have seen it work dozens of times. If the afflicted can be treated with a few cannabis hits, the syndrome appears to evaporate.
  14. Looks like it's time for a refresher for you guys. Please, at least try to help yourselves.
  15. The informed opinion seems to be that alcohol and tobacco are much more dangerous and costly to the individual and to our society. http://www.cheatsheet.com/culture/marijuana-is-much-safer-than-alcohol-and-tobacco-so-stop-asking.html/ From the article While Christie, and the Americans who agree with his attitude toward marijuana, are entitled to their opinions, the repeated yet incorrect mantra espousing the dangers of marijuana is really losing its potency — especially as the federal government itself has even come forward with evidence of actual health benefits from cannabis use. Though many would like to continue to drag the fears exhibited in Reefer Madness into the 21st century, we know that marijuana is generally harmless; in fact, it’s magnitudes safer than other similar substances that are perfectly legal and sold at your nearest 7-11, like tobacco and alcohol.
  16. This article and the underlying study seem to reinforce the idea that cannabinoids help the body to stay in balance. Metabolic syndrome is a name for a group of risk factors that occur together and relate to cardiovascular disease and diabetes. http://www.medicaljane.com/2015/11/17/smoking-marijuana-associated-with-50-lower-chance-of-developing-metabolic-syndrome/ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26548604 From the article The researchers found that 19.5 percent of participants who had never smoked marijuana before met the criteria of having metabolic syndrome. Of those who were former smokers, 17.5 percent had enough of the symptoms of metabolic syndrome. It was those who currently smoked weed who were found to have the lowest percentage of metabolic syndrome, at just 13.8 percent.
  17. I just heard a tease for the upcoming hour. They said Bruce to speak on his real estate holdings.
  18. I don't live anywhere near there but it looks like Buffalo Wild Wings has several locations there. The ones I have been to have the NHL package. Tuesday night special on bone-in wings. http://buffalowildwings.com/en/locations/
  19. NY Governor Cuomo signs bills to speed up medical cannabis distribution http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/12/nyregion/cuomo-signs-2-bills-to-speed-up-medical-marijuana-distribution.html From the article Under the bills, approved by the State Legislature this year, the State Health Department is to set up a separate program to “create an expedited pathway” for sick New Yorkers whose lack of access to the drug “would pose a serious risk” to their lives. Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, said in a statement accompanying his signatures that he “deeply sympathized with New Yorkers suffering from serious illness, and I appreciate that medical marijuana may alleviate their chronic pain and debilitating symptoms.”
  20. Sorry, guess I wasn't amazed enough for you. So you actually think shaming the Senators is going to fix the campaign finance problem? If so, you are more naive than Senator Sasse. Let's see what changes.
  21. Did you ever see the movie "Jerry Maguire"? The speech reminded me of Jerry's manifesto given to his peers. He made some great points and was pretty much spot on but it won't change anything because he cannot fix the underlying problem. Politicians are far too concerned with their political future. They should be focused on addressing the concerns of their constituents but we have incentivized them to instead focus on their next campaign. Of course money drives everything because as we know, massive advertising campaigns can turn elections. They don't want to touch issues that will upset their big campaign contributors. Many won't touch 'toxic' issues such as gun control because then their next opponent will have more money to spend than they will due to NRA response. They prefer not to vote if they can help it. And the partisanship is to the point where we don't need the actual politician in the legislature in order to determine votes, just his party designation. So, interesting speech? Yes, but it is somewhat naive and idealistic.
  22. I think the polls were accurate with respect to Ohio voters' opinions on cannabis. The reason the Ohio ballot initiative failed had more to do with the ballot language concerning the commercial grow rights than voters' views on cannabis, imo. This means that a lot of pro-cannabis people voted against this proposal. From the article: A Quinnipiac University poll released last month found that 53 percent of Ohio voters supported recreational marijuana, as opposed to 44 percent who opposed it. The poll also found that 90 percent of Ohio voters supported medical marijuana, compared with 9 percent who opposed it. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. http://news.yahoo.com/ohios-rejection-legal-pot-leaves-future-142040543.html;_ylt=A0LEViN86TpWAkAAXpInnIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTByMjB0aG5zBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--
  23. Today Ohio voters are deciding on legal medical and recreational cannabis. Polling would indicate most are in favor of legalization, generally speaking. As this article points out however, the ballot issue has become broader than just cannabis. Passing the initiative would mean that just 10 farms could commercially grow the product for the entire state and those 10 farmers just happen to be the folks that funded and put the ballot initiative together. http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/29/opinions/nadelmann-ohio-marijuana-legalization/index.html
  24. I felt the Sabres overpaid in most of their recent moves. I have to say though, the current team is soooo much more fun to watch. Could be I was wrong, as Kane and O'Reilly, along with Eichel, have been the sparkplugs. Individually they are getting better and as a team, they are working together better. They are young and improving, a great combo for your team. Occasionally they seem to lose confidence, as all young players seem to do. The upside of that is the fun watching the light click back on
  25. It sounds like the New York State Medical Cannabis program may be behind schedule. It is supposed to be operational in 3 months. http://www.capitalnewyork.com/article/albany/2015/10/8580074/deadline-approaching-medical-marijuana-locations-still-unsettled
