  1. If the Jets sign him, they're done with good old (average) Fitzy.
  2. It kind of rhymes with "Fitz show".
  3. We'll just go ahead and label you "daffy apples" for wanting to rely on stupid overall W-L instead of actual head to head play AND competition against common opponents on common fields. You should change your name to "Ugh-ny".
  4. I would go with Atlanta and Matt Schaub. He's the only guy that's consistently performed at a high level as a starter. There's other guys that have looked the part, but you would be hard pressed to find someone near his body of work. Maybe some would say he's too old, but that would be the only knock IMO.
  5. Capable of actually reading much? His statement: The biggest reason - TYROD Taylor is being paid like a backup qb (and not even a good one!). You can see a lot by simply looking.
  6. Yes. H2H, the Bills were better. Overall W-L is a function of playing teams at home vs road. Buffalo was better in the AFC East, going 4-2 versus the Jets going 3-3, where both teams have common road and home games. In the AFC East where you can actually put home/road on common ground, Buffalo outscored their opponents 163-125. Jets were 148 versus 128. Pointing to record alone is a simpleton's journey.
  7. At the end of the day, I've said the same thing since day 1. This thread is just categorically wrong in thinking that Fitzpatrick is "calling his shot". If there was another team interested, an argument could be made. There hasn't been a single team to even sniff in his direction, and for good reason. 11 years in the NFL with 6 different teams and basically a "middling" QB. Point to just last season, and you're just cherry picking. His completion percentage, yards per attempt, and many other measures of a QB were average to below average. Setting franchise records for a season doesn't mean much when you look at the last couple of decades for the team. Chad Pennington? Vinny Testaverde? Is that really achieving all that much? Being a turnover machine in a must-win game against an opponent with nothing to gain by winning doesn't help either. Also Tell me that the Jets don't have any other options at the position. They've only drafted Geno Smith, Bryce Petty and now Christian Hackenburg since the "Sanchize" fiasco, and that's in the last 4 years. 3 QB's that the organization said may all be franchise guys in just 4 years. Fitzpatrick was signed last year as a stop-gap, period. Geno Smith wasn't ready to be a starter last year, but is getting a lot of praise right now. Bryce Petty is just a year removed from being hailed as the next franchse quarterback as well, but with questions of his ability to make reads. Now que this year with the Jets drafting Hackenberg in the 2nd and they're sitting with THREE QB's not named Fitzpatrick. Any measurable amount of success by any of the 3, and I can see the Jets pulling the offer off the table. If we get to the second preseason game and there's no Fitzpatrick, look for him to be watching games at home on Sundays this year. The Jets were playing a meaningful game in week 17 last year and lost on the road to a team that had nothing to gain.
  8. One play per game each? Tyrod will have a lot of work to do....
  9. "I didn't beat her, I just pushed her out of bed" - O.J. Simpson.
  10. Look at his post. Key "starers".
  11. A couple of points. First I agree with you on not needing to install a new defense. I would have loved to have seen Schwartz stay and just run the system they were running before. In terms of "adding some of his principles" to what Schwartz was doing, that's not really possible. Let's start with a primer on what Schwartz's system was and was not. Schwartz base package was a 4-3. 4 down linemen rush the passer on most downs. Schwartz mostly used Nickel on clear passing downs, with just those same 4 down linemen getting after quarterbacks. In Ryan's 3-4, he's running a ton of Dime, Nickel and Quarter packages. The key for his defense is disguising who's going after the quarterback. He tried some hybrid schemes at the beginning of the season and they just didn't work. I also agree with you 100% on Aaron Williams for that exact reason. Rex's schemes absolutely require good CB's and Safeties to be effective. The safety play last year was pretty terrible. At this point in his career, I'm not too worried about Kyle Williams. He only played 6 games last season and has been on the slow road to recovery. He's showing his age and wear and tear at this point.
  12. Some guys can look pretty hard....
  13. 35 going on 36. 3.8 YPC for the last two years running. Lost significant step on the field. I would take a pass.
  14. I think Cassel went home to his castle, never to suit up in the NFL again.
  15. The route I'm going with that is that there's basically a predetermination of guilt before he's even started the process of determining guilt/innocence. There is no pending suspension until the hearing happens, which it has not. For lack of better analogy (because there really isn't a great one), it's like giving someone a DUI before determining that they were even drinking. Lots of things could have happened here. Agent messed up dates for testing, broken down communications, etc. Things happen all the time and they usually get sorted when it comes to missed tests.
  16. At first, It thought Bell was simply grandstanding and believed it was an idiotic mistake. If, as this article suggests, the NFL is violating their own procedural policies, he may have quite a good platform for making an appeal. Should be interesting none the less.
  17. So the biggest reason you are afraid is because Tyrod is being paid like a backup? That's a baffling perception to say the least. Perennial contenders do have this luxury for a season or sometimes multiple seasons before they have to figure out how they're going to compensate their up and coming stars. Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, Cam Newton all played on rookie contracts for multiple seasons before making their payday. This is nothing new or unique to the Bills situation. First round draft pick Marcus Mariota will count just $5.5m against the cap for Tennessee this season. He counted $4.4m last year and will count just $6.6 in 2017. Peanuts by the standards of any starter. Second round pick Derek Carr is probably a better analogy as he wasn't expected to start when they drafted him. His rookie deal was $976K in 2014 and $1.2m last year. This year it will be just $1.5m. There's no doubt he's going to get paid, but there's ZERO sense of urgency to give him a new deal, even after 3 years of his 4 year deal. I concur that you're not a salary cap expert. I would guess that you've probably never even looked at the structure of NFL contracts to be able to understand why Tyrod is being paid what he is and more importantly why it isn't a big deal at all. If Tyrod doesn't work out this year, the Bills will be looking again to the draft. Even a high draft pick will be cheap by starting caliber QB standards. It's so simple that it's mind numbing. No need to be scared.
  18. Let's just pick other arbitrary measures of judgement while we're at it. How many teams with a new HC, OC, DC, and starting QB that was in 3-way tryouts for the job in camp and have made the playoffs in their first season? Who the hell knows? Hey, here's a stat you'll like. If you add the collective record of every head coach in the playoffs last year in their first season with their team, you would get exactly 97-95. Out of 12, only 4 had a record above 0.500 in their first year with their new team. Love Rex or hate him? Neither. To assume that a brand new system can be installed in a year with a QB that's never started, and players that don't fit schemes you're trying to run is just plain stupid. So, let's just say that they end up 8-8 again this year. Should the team completely reboot? I don't think so.
  19. 13 WR's on the roster already. Why add a 14th when the dude is 36 going on 37, especially now? If they were only sitting on 7-8 guys right now at that position, I would be asking myself the same question, but they're not.
  20. This report has even less "teeth" in it than the one with Shady in a bar fight. Non-news.
  21. Fitz has no options, as he doesn't have anyone asking for his services. The Jets can just go with Geno Smith. We may not LIKE the options, but they clearly have them.
  22. Where's all that Fitz leverage we heard about over the first 53 pages? We will be saying "thank you" to the Jets front office for seeing Geno Smith twice this year.
  23. I think he means how much the game meant from an importance perspective for the Bills coaching staff, particularly Rex.
