Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
1billsfan replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You do realize that both Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson were the SIXTH QBs taken in their respective drafts? As much as you guys want to dismiss him, Matt Scott does in fact have the same kind of skills as them. Same kind of attitude. It's very likely that this 2013 draft will yet again be a repeat of dumb NFL teams taking the "talked about" QBs like Smith, Manuel, Nassib and Barkley and not taking the guy who will be the real "rock star" QB talent just like what happened with Kaepernick and Wilson. I wouldn't be so dismissive of Scott. It's happened two years in a row and Scott's the guy who's a pretty good fit for the same storyline. -

Oh please, they're not baseless. Slow speed... He was timed above 5 seconds in his 40yd and he was slower than 12 offensive lineman at the combine. Poor arm strength... I watched the full game videos of Nassib's horrible deep throws. I watched his embarrassing Senior Bowl performance. The NFL will crowd the line and put eight in the box all day with this guy. No run game no deep passing game. BTW, I can give you a handful of articles on Nassib's questionable arm strength starting with Todd McShay and Bucky Brooks if you'd like. Unathletic... The guy is a body builder. He looks very stiff when moving around. He has no natural looseness that you see with all the great QBs. Even the drop back guys. This suddenly crazed Ryan Nassib hype is starting to become bigger than what happened with Blaine Gabbert. -

I think that at the NFL level he's too slow, too unathletic and is lacking in arm strength to become a franchise QB. To me he's a game manager type prospect, not a true franchise QB type prospect. I think his ceiling is that of a QB who's possibly a step below an Andy Dalton level of QB. -

Unlike the QB debates here with regards to the two QBs before Fitzpatrick, I feel that the debates over these QB draft prospects have at least remained respectful. I understand why you guys like Nassib, I even liked him after my first review of his videos. However, I just see the successes of Kaepernick and Wilson and feel like this style is the future of the NFL and I really see this kind of potential with Scott. There's obviously no changing of minds at this point. I think we just need this draft to get here already so we know who the Bills really do want...lol -

I obviously feel the opposite is true. To me, Nassib's limited physical skills simply don't translate to the NFL. Seeing where both Nassib and Scott go will be very interesting. I feel like Scott is the "stealth" QB prospect who will shock a lot of people where he ends up going. The reason I give is that I think the NFL is going through big changes and it's new way of thinking could be way ahead of how the media types think in this regard. -

I admit he's raw. Obviously there's going to be a clunker in there. However he was 4-2 in his previous six games before that including putting 48 in an overtime loss to Stanford and 39 points in a big win over USC. Yes, that Arizona State game was his last regular season game, but he was a true "circle the wagon" QB in the fourth quarter of his bowl game. Youtube the three games I mentioned...Stanford, USC and the bowl game. Those are the ones where I see potential NFL greatness. Hey, we are all dug in at this point. There's no changing anyone's mind, right?...lol -

Just so you know, I'm for the Bills getting a modern NFL QB prospect so it's not just all Matt Scott, I'd also be happy with Smith or Manuel. As for Scott's turnovers, he only threw 4 more than Nassib. I think that's an ok stat for it being his one and only year starting. To me, it's a sign of his rawness. He did have over 500 yards rushing and 6 rushing TDs. That's the dynamic part of the game that guys like Nassib, Barkley and Wilson don't and will never have. I look at his games with Stanford, USC and his bowl game and see a street tough kid who's a "baller" and who exhibits that will to win. He is raw, but to my eyes he has everything that I want in the Bills' next true franchise QB. I just don't see that mental toughness in Smith and Manuel so that's why I like Scott better as a prospect and I hope the Bills draft Patterson (or even Austin who I'm warming up to) at #8 and Scott at #41. The let him sit for the full year and learn under Kolb or Jackson. -

I'm talking about his one and only full year at starting QB. That's all. If 2012 was his second year starting under Rodriguez he'd probably would have accounted for over 40 TDs this year I would think or at least close to it. But the previous coach was going with the "old fashioned" drop back offense so the coach went with Foles (who's an old fashioned QB prospect by current NFL standards) and Scott was indeed very smart to redshirt. It will be very interesting where these QBs fall in the draft. -

He redshirted because the coach at the time was going with an antiquated drop back offense. With his new coach Rodriguez, Scott accounted for over 30 TDs in his one and only starting year. To me, that's very impressive along with his "never say die" competitive drive. -

I don't think you're getting what I meant. By "rubber stamping" I meant that he thought Gabbert was a QB worthy of being a top ten pick. It wasn't meant to say he was "rubber stamping" other's opinions. If someone wants to bring up Gruden's glowing review of Nassib, it's only fair to see a very recent evaluation failure. Chances are that the Jaguars are going to select Geno Smith to get out of that "hole" the previous regime dug them into. -

Matt Scott was brought into One Bills Drive for a visit. He's actually had more on site team visits than Nassib. No one knows what NFL teams think of Scott. Maybe the silence on him speaks volumes that teams really do like him a lot and don't want to blow their cover. The kid's a tough baller with great QBs skills and physical ability. A lot like the last two "sudden rock star" QBs in Kaepernick and Wilson. He is much more raw, but he does have the same mental and physical traits as them. -

I thought Gabbert's pre-draft ascension was a joke. Just like I think Nassib's ascension is a joke. Gruden wasn't so much predicting as he was rubber stamping Gabbert being a top ten pick according to his evaluation. Ryan Nassib is quickly becoming this year's Blaine Gabbert. -

Can you guess who said this... "I do think Blaine Gabbert is a Top 10 pick. All you have to do is see the ball come out of his hand. He's got a very quick, strong arm, prototype size. He's over 6'4", 235 pounds, a finance major, so you know he has intelligence. He has speed. I mean, Gabbert ran very well at the combine. He's elusive back there. His scrambling and play making ability I think will be very enticing." For every person at ESPN who likes him there's double the amount at NFL.com, NFL Network and NFL radio who don't like Nassib at all as an NFL QB. -

I think you're being a little overly-sensitive to these QB debates. I don't really get your argument. So you don't want fans to have strong opinions about the future of the QB position on an NFL team message board? These kind of fans are now deemed as being "extremists"? Really? I find people who ride the fence and give all sides of an argument lame and boring. Good or bad, I want an opinion. Not someone tip toeing around the subject. I suggest that you don't come here on draft day because it probably isn't going to be very pretty. This isn't the Colt or Redskin "slam dunk" Luck or RGIII QB pick situation. Don't ever forget that this is just a message board and you can't take anything too seriously. People are passionate about who they like and don't like by now. That's an ok thing in my book. -

How soon Bills fans forget… http://www.draftcoun...ctices/Game.php "Manuel was clearly the top quarterback today, making an impact as a passer and runner. Manuel completed 7 of 10 attempts included a gorgeous touchdown to Alabama TE Michael Williams in the first quarter. There is no denying Manuel’s physical tools and talent but consistency has been the issue. However, this game offered a glimpse of just how dangerous Manuel can be and scouts will surely take notice." "Nassib was even worse, throwing a bad interception, fumbling the ball and completing just four of ten attempts. You don’t want to read too much into one exhibition game but it would be hard to justify taking either Glennon or Nassib in round one based on how they played in the 2013 Senior Bowl. Don’t be surprised if some team does though, most likely out of sheer desperation. BUYER BEWARE!" I sense that the closer this draft gets, the more Bills fans are ok with Nassib at #8. Must be willful blindness. The media is seeming to be promoting this storyline also, even though there seems to be no real interest in Nassib other than the Bills. There's something very strange with this Marrone/Nassib/Hackett connection. You'd think Syracuse was in multiple BCS bowl games. Yet Bills fans are ok with banking on the notion that these "big three" who had decent success in the Big East are ALL heading for NFL greatness? If the Bills do draft the slow footed, unathletic, average arm Ryan Nassib at #8 over EJ Manuel, the Buffalo Bill franchise will deserve the curse that the football gods would likely lay down on upon them. -

I'm shocked at the Nassib evaluations this offseason. I'm shocked at the seemingly growing groundswell from Bills fans wanting him. There's a scene from the 70's movie Stepford Wives where Katherine Ross discovers that her friend had "changed". This thread weirdly reminds me of that…lol I keep shaking my head at the fans who want Nassib after three years of Fitzpatrick. I don't even see Nassib being an average NFL starter let alone a "Jim Kelly" type of franchise QB that we desperately need again. I'm hoping beyond hope that the Marrone/Nassib connection is being used as cover for the real guy they think has a shot at franchise QB stardom. If Nassib is so GREAT and Marrone is so GREAT, why is it that Nassib is not considered a GREAT top 10 prospect by anyone on this planet not named Russ Lande? This is a question that no one wants to answer here in this thread. That's because the logical answer is that one of the two are not that great. -

Ryan Nassib was 0-4 last year against Trevor Siemian, Max Shortell, Gary Nova and Munchie Legaux. Doesn't that have to be considered?...lol At the NFL level, Ryan Nassib is a slow footed, unathletic and inaccurate deep passer. If you want to see what kind of QB he will be at the next level then watch the Rutgers video...or you could just watch repeats of Ryan Fitzpatrick's 2012 season. I can't wait for the reaction of the Nassib fans when the Bills pull a head fake and pick another QB over Nassib. I wonder if they'll start calling his four year head coach an idiot for passing him over. -

I haven't countered the Nassib craziness in about week. I'm hardly the problem here. We're all locked in on who we like and don't like with regards to QB. The repetitive nature of these arguments are unavoidable. Every once in a while I reserve the right to repeat my support of Scott who did actually pay a visit to One Bills Drive this week. Not one mention here that I saw. Scott has had more on site visits with NFL teams than Nassib has had. This kind of information just doesn't seem to resonate around here very much. Yet I'm the one who needs to back off?...lol Do you want to willfully put blinders on this board? I'd suggest you don't read this thread anymore if you don't like reading the same thing over and over again..lol -

I'm just trying to keep things real. He looks like a third or fourth round "flyer pick" QB to me. He simply doesn't pass the eyeball test of what a 1st or 2nd round QB is supposed to look like in today's NFL. If you can't run and you're not very mobile then you had better have a cannon for an arm. This Nassib hype reminds me of the Gabbert hype a couple of years ago. I kept looking at video of Gabbert and laughing at the prospect of him being a 1st round pick. It seems that every year there's a "little engine that could" type of kid that "climbs the boards" with the help of a hype machine. The real "rock star in hiding" QB that I think everybody's missing is Matt Scott. To me, his videos show a potentially great NFL QB talent. He's had real gut check wins. He played a real schedule. He has franchise QB skills like being fast with his feet and his release. I truly think he is the best of this class and has a real chance of becoming a great QB. Certainly one of the best in the AFC which will suck after Manning and Brady leave. -

While I'm partial to Scott, I'd be very happy with either Smith or Manuel. Marrone came from New Orleans who had the mobile and athletic QB in Brees. The Bills have obviously seen the astronomically fast successes of Kaepernick, RGIII and Wilson. So IMO, this leads me to believe that the QB they pick will be one of those three guys. It's the future of the NFL. None of them are sure things, but I'm sure in one of these three guys, they see a QB that they can have great success with after a year of learning on the bench. -

I think a few people have lost their minds in this thread with regards to Nassib. They've taken this Marrone/Nassib connection thing to the extreme. IMO, Nassib will be drafted by an NFL team in the 3rd round which will be taking a "Trent Edwards"-type flyer pick on him. I just don't see any NFL team banking a 2nd (let alone a 1st) on a QB with such limited mobility and average arm strength. I think that the hype machine got out of control due to a couple draft "experts" with out-of-whack evaluations on him. None of these "experts" are employed GMs who have their jobs on the line and would be picking Nassib in the 1st or 2nd round. I'd actually be shocked if Nassib goes before Matt Scott. I'm hoping that Matt Scott's our pick in the 2nd or 3rd. Yes, he'd be a "reach" in the second, but at least he's somebody with actual NFL physical franchise QB skills that they could work with for a year to get him ready for 2014. -
Interesting Drafting Pattern
1billsfan replied to 2003Contenders's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's absolutely no way the Bills take a 5'9" 170 lb player at #8 overall. Tavon may become a very good to great slot receiver in this league, but if the Bills don't draft Geno Smith, they would either draft Patterson over Austin or they would draft defense. Obviously that's my opinion, but I'd be truly shocked if they drafted Austin at #8. I think the Bills are doing a very good job of mudding the water with misinformation. -

That's been the biggest myth of this draft season. Nassib is a horrible thrower of the deep pass. Nassib and McCoy look like carbon copies to me. They look great running around throwing short passes in college, but they are not NFL starting material due to their physical limitations. Plus, how many excuses does this guy get? No talent around him? He was playing Big East defenses! How many Big East defenders are getting drafted this year? I suspect a very small amount. He had receiving talent around him in the Senior bowl, what happened there? -
Less than 2 weeks till the draft, your pick at #8

The last time New England won a Superbowl was when they featured WRs and not TEs. Deion Branch was the MVP of that game. The Ravens wouldn't have even been in the playoffs let alone go on a Superbowl winning hot streak without Anquan Boldin. They scored 34 on the 49ers. Look at the Giants run with Victor Cruz. That one play against the Jets sent them on the Superbowl winning run. Defense is officially over rated with these new rules. It's a luxury to have a good one, but not a necessity. Patterson is the guy the Bills should pick. I think even Kolb or Jackson could win the division with an offense that would be that loaded with talent.
