Why can't we ever sign guys to extensions?
1billsfan replied to duey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Shockey's contract seems very reasonable (5 years, 31 million w/ a 3 million signing bonus). Clements wants somewhere around 9 million a year w/ a 10 million signing bonus (this is the going rate for the top cornerback which is what Nate's said he's looking for). I don't blame the Bills for shying away from those numbers considering the massive rebuilding job needed on the offensive line. The Bills are too late in the extention game with Nate, they should have done this two years into his first contract. They should now try to concentrate on trying to sign McGahee and Evans long term. They need to learn from their mistakes. -
Thank God every day our Bills have "class"

I'm sure they'll try to find a way to pin this on Randy Moss. -
So cheesy with this hide who is playing BS

I think that Malarkey is insulting the Jets with this ploy. Last season I really thought we had finally found a coach that gets it, unfortunatley I now think I'm sadly mistaken. Nothing like making the opposition a bit more agitated Mike, good going you idiot. Think about how'd you feel if Herm Edwards did the same thing to the Bills by saying that he didn't know if they'd be starting Bollinger or Testaverte. Malarkey's over his head in this job. -
At what point do we HAVE to play JP?

Hey Phil, does the name Scott Brunner ring a bell? -
If you could choose how the Bills would win this Sunday, which one of these scenarios would you rather have take place? 1. Holcomb leads the Bills to a dominating win against the Jets. Let's say by three touchdowns. or 2. Losman replaces a struggling Holcomb with the Bills down two touchdowns in the third quarter and leads the Bills to an improbable last second win. I pick #2. I've always loved fantastic finishes.

At what point do we HAVE to play JP?

Phil Simms can get bent. That guy was a major bust his first 4 years in the league. After his first two seasons his starting his completion rate was 49 percent. What's JP's after four games? 48.5. I remember laughing at Phil Simms during his learning years because he looked so clueless. Part of that had to do with the Giants not yet having a good offensive line. Hmmm sound familiar? The fact that Simms says he saw "FILM", and proceed to say JP has shown "nothing" shows what a tool the guy is. If your going to go on record and say this guy looks like a bust because he has shown nothing than at least watch "ALL" of his four games. I've seen plenty of positives like the ability to gain yards with his legs, direct first possession scoring drives on the road and only throwing one interception in his first four games. He's done all this AND has hovered around Phil's lofty 49 percent completion rate. I guess all those hits in his early years have taken their toll on Simms. Did Mike ask him what promise his son has shown as an NFL QB? I'm guessing he didn't. -
I know this sounds crazy but if I were Malarkey I'd put him in on defense on sure passing downs (3 and 10) or better and have Parrish blitz Testaverte. It'd be a sure sack. He's too fast to avoid and too small to block. How's that for a wrinkle?

At what point do we HAVE to play JP?

I took a look at the Saints game yesterday and was astonished at how our coaches put JP behind the eight ball. After a solid touchdown drive on he's first possession the coaches lost it in terms of play calling. We get the ball on our 10 yard line and after Willis gets stuffed Malarkey calls a rollout to the right when max protection was on the left hand side. An untouched Saint promptly almost sacks him for a saftey. On the next possession they had him rolling out to his left (JP is a right handed QB!) and when he tried to transition to turn and plant he got hammered as he lets the ball go. What we had was a team that was getting stuffed on first down and a green QB that got shaken quickly being on the road with the coaches stupifying play calling. When you have bad field position on the road you play conservative with a seven point lead. The coaches were pulling stuff out of their collective butts that still had me shaking my head. A veteren QB might have weathered the storm, but I would have liked to see what JP would have done if the coaches played it by the book. On average JP was getting hit at 2 1/2 seconds when passing, I'm hoping he gets another chance soon with the coaches putting him in better positions for success. -

Don't be suprised to see him in the Jet game if the Bills offense looks bad again and we're down double digits in the third quarter. One thing JP has over Holcomb is his ability to run. If Holcomb can't avoid getting sacked regularly behind our weak pass protecting line, Malarkey may give the ball and the opportunity to Losman to pull off a home comeback and help him gain stature as a leader on the offense. -
The reason we don't have any second half touchdowns is because our offensive line gets blown off the ball with extreme regularity. I'm thinking that Tom Donahoe's chickens might very well come home to roost this weekend with the Jets beating up the Bills worst ever offensive line and winning the game. Those fans predicting a Bills win are ignoring this huuuuge mismatch.

2006- Upgrades Needed At 4 of 5 OL Positions
1billsfan replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wish Peters would replace Gandy and Preston replace Teague. This whole line gets blown off the ball week after week so why not see what the backups can do at our weakest line positions. -
I heard there were some discussions with other teams regarding fair value for Drew Bledsoe. But Tom Donahoe was not willing to trade for a bag of rocks. He was holding out for the possiblity of getting a ball of twine. Sadly this trade never materialized so they were left with having to just release him. Apparently NFC teams haven't yet thought of watching old Bills games where Bledsoe never met a blitz he could handle. Once they catch on it'll be curtains for Drew.

I'm not arguing whether Shottenheimer was a better coach than Levy, so far his career obviously is not as good as Marv's was. My point is that Bills fans laughing at other team's big game coaching flops is a laugh itself.
-
I was just amazed at seeing Bills fans making fun of big game coaching flops. As Bills fans we should excuse ourselves from that debate. Of course Levy was a better big game coach than those guys, but ridiculing other team's coaches for big game flops is hypocritical if you won't look at Levy's flops.
-
A little football 101 for you also...it's just plain stupid for a Bills fan to even start arguing about other team's big game coaching flops. I'm sure you've heard the "people in glass houses" phrase.
-
You're both forgetting Marv Levy. As much as I hate to say it, Bills fans have no business calling out all time worst big game coaches. The Bills blew four of the biggest games in a row.

So our pop-gun offense is going to explode on one of the best defenses in the NFL???? I can tell you now, that isn't going to happen. The Bills will be lucky to get past the Jets. The Jets may not be able to run, but they do have a good offensive line that will allow Testaverde to pick us apart through the air. I see the Jets doing a lot of screen passes to the backs and quick slants to the wide receivers. The Bills are going to have to play a lot better than they did last week because the Jets won't be giving us anything. The only way we win is if we play smart, rush the ball well and often (45 times) and stop the Jets on third down. Willis McGahee is the main key to getting a "w". If he has a big day we win, if he doesn't we lose.
-
How do you know that Jason Peters is not a great run blocker? He's been used very little in this capacity. Seriously, how do you know? Our line is one of the worst in the league and I'd like for Malarkey to start making some changes on it, one of them is putting Peters in at LT. Gandy is a joke.

Why the switch was made at QB
1billsfan replied to Blue Chipper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know about that. The Bills made an very impressive march to the playoffs last season and looked like one of the top 5 teams in the NFL while doing it. I think this team has the potential to be very good or very bad. It's really a split personality kind of team IMO. Even in yesterdays game they looked like two different teams playing. We have a lot of talented players except on the offensive line. If there was anyway this team can get the right mix going on that line and have it be at least average then I see no reason that this team could get on a roll. I did not support the move to JP, but I was wrong. This team was supercharged yesterday with Holcomb. I'm on board with sticking with Holcomb until he proves he can't get the job done or we get to far removed from the playoff hunt. JP needs to calm down when he eventually gets behind center again. After watching Holcomb, he'll notice how you have to stay cool and not be acting all crazy back there. As much as Holcomb looks wonderful, if JP ever gets to the point where he can relax and be accurate with the ball, he will be much more of a threat than Holcomb is right now. -
Meshawn all up in Bledsoe's grill
1billsfan replied to TheMadCap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Drew feels comfortable in the pocket there's always a good chance he'll have a great day. I'm still scratching my head why the Eagles didn't blitz Bledsoe in this game. Bledsoe needs Fort Knox-like protection hence the reason he was shown the door at OBD. Will teams continue to not blitz Bledsoe? Me thinks not. Dallas is doomed with El Statue at the helm. -
On the flip side is that if McGahee breaks through the line then it could be 6 also. It'd be nice if one of our lineman could pancake somebody once in a while.

One game and we're all sorts of cocky again???? Dude chill out, I thought we were gift wrapped this win by the Dolphins. The fins turned the ball over 5 times and had 18 penalties and unbelievably we STILL had a very good chance of losing in the last minute. The Jets will kick our ass if we can't run the ball better. I just don't get how you can be so confident after one very shaky win and three embarassing losses in the last four weeks.

My first time for no hope for Bills
1billsfan replied to SlamnSam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, that's not the SlamnSam we all know and love. What can I do to cheer you up? Smash a beer can on my forehead? C'mon ya big lug, it's Miami week. We can beat these panzies. -
on how important it is for the Buffalo Bills to beat the hated Miami Dolphins at home....uh...wait...he played for the Dolphins. On second thought, just forget about it.
-
You'd be cocky too if you had just seen film on the 2005 version of the Buffalo Bills offensive line.
