  1. I think people forget at the time of the new CBA, the league was in the middle of getting a new super deal for TV money.

Bob Kraft was the one that brokered the new deal that gave RW a lot more money. Being one of the shrewdest businessman he also got put into the TV contract that the owners would get a high % of the TV money even if there was a work stoppage. The owners also set aside money to help teams survive any lockout. This is why the owners opted out of the CBA early because they had these things in place now and not 2 years ago. It was a hurried and bad CBA agreement but they needed time to prepare. I think you will see that the owners are holding all the cards unless the government steps in.

  2. Even though it was a bad deal for the owners, it gave them time to sign a new TV contract that guarantees money even if there is a work stoppage. It also gave the owners time to build up a war chest of money for each team to ride out any lockout. This is what many owners knew would happen which is why there was an opt out clause. The contract gave them labor peace for a couple of years and time to get ready. This is why so many owners voted for the CBA.

  3. Yes, that is the way good coaches do things. The best player, at that position plays no matter where he was drafted. The problem with the Bills is, that we play players because of where they were drafted not because they are the best players.

This is why we have a lot of draft choices still on the team, we can not seem to understand that the best football players should be playing and not the best draft choices. If Whitner can not play up to the best at the position then he should be backing up or cut. That's the way good coaches do things. The best football players play and the rest watch and learn.

  4. I think people miss the point of the old CBA, the owners voted to accept the CBA knowing it was not good because of the upcoming TV contract. They knew the had an opt out in 2 years. This let them get their finances and TV contracts renewed with the fact that they will get their TV money even if there is a lookout. They also built up a lockout fund which has 300 million for each team set aside to cover the owners cost during a lockout. As soon as this was accomplished they dumped the CBA. The upcoming no cap year has a lot of provisions in it to keep teams from going wild and spending crazy. Plus the 2006 Pats were under the cap and would not of had to cut players, the teams it helped the were the Redskins and Cowboys

many people here are always complaining how the Pats sign players for less than market value. Plus the Pats have let a lot of players leave when their contract demands became too high (ie Samuels, Law, Daniels, Gay and others) If they were as free spending as you say they would of signed all of them to big contracts like the Redskins.

Bob Kraft is an outstanding businessman and has been they driving force behind getting the NFL owners 3 tremendous TV contracts, that has generated millions for RW and the Buffalo Bills. The NFL owners even RW have thanked him for this on many occasions. All owners have different opinions on things. Kraft does not want the luxury box income to be counted until after the stadium is paid for, he also wants team to find ways to get more income like selling naming rights for stadiums. If he has to add the income from boxes to the shared pool then RW has to add the 5 million he gets from Erie county for the stadium. RW does not want to do these things but neither want the Jerry Jones or Snyder going crazy. You might also have to add the NY Jets into the picture when they get their new stadium. This will be a major stumbling block in the future on owners who pay for their stadiums verses owners who get free stadiums and all the concession and parking money. Also remeber that the teams get a split of the gate when the play each other. Where the home team gets 60% to 40% for the visting team. because of the lage difference in ticket prices RW gets nearly 50 % more than the Pats do when they play each other

  5. Except for the Bills part, I do not find this article that bad. Times are tough right now. If the Bills had not gotten TO, the article could of been about the Bills. Even die hard fans have to question their entertainment spending. There is only so many times I can watch my team get buried. I have seen a lot of material on this board about bad management, not willing to spend the money, greedy owner, I am not buying tickets until we get a good coach and ETC. To me the Bills have a captive audience, If not the Bills what else? Moving Bills games to Toronto should of showed us something like the writer said about the backouts.

  6. Sorry but Drew Bledsoe does have a super bowl ring. He may have been a backup at the time they won but he was still there

when they won so he is considered as having won a super bowl. Remember, journalism is one person opinions on things not reporting. I think the article is right on for most of the it. I think that he is saying, that the city and team is about working class people and players. It is not just about me or the glitz.

  7. I guess BB and the NE Patriots have never seen the hurry up no huddle offense before? Have they not used it before?

Since DJ discussed it already they might prepare for it for Monday night. Remember that it was the 3 game of the season and Miami unveiled the wildcat formations and totally confused the NE team. When they did the same thing later in the season in Miami the Pats crushed them.

  8. Pats 11 - 5

    Bills 10 - 6*

    Fins 9 - 7

    Jets 9 - 7

    * Last game of season against Pats. Bills down on the Pats 2 yard line, 4th down, 20 seconds to play trailing 21 to 17.

DJ calls for a field goal. Bills down 21 to 20 with 10 seconds on the clock. Bills on side kick and recover it, DJ forgetting that the clock stops on a change of possession calls time out. But the Bills have no time outs left because DJ had already wasted them in the 3 quarter. Bills are flagged for delay of game and have 10 seconds run off the clock.

    Game OVER.

According to DJ and his time management staff, they still had 1 hour 50 seconds left. Afterward it was discovered that the Bills coaching staff had set their clocks to the wrong time zone.

RW was so happy that the team had not finished 7 -9 that he signed DJ to a lifetime contract.

Bills lose tie breaker for last wild card slot.

  9. I do not think that any one else could win 12 games with this team as it is now? There are a number of players at key positions that will be rookies or average at best. Kelsey, Denny, McCargo, Whitner, Ellis and a host of others. this team is not as strong as everyone says. Juaron is not the best coach but we could have worse.

  10. With all of these DBs selected, I think that it might be the end for KO and Youboty. I do not think that they have progressed enough and their injuries have held them back. I think the writing is on the wall, show up, play good or you are gone!

  11. Were these not the same players we said were only going to get better from their rookie seasons. Isn't this what we did 3 -4 years ago/ Get rid of the older players and bring in exciting rookies?

Isn't this what we said before, " I rather pick and watch rookies compete because they will only get better with playing time. "

Are these not the rookies from then that have not progressed any further. there is no true way of knowing which rookies will make it and which will not? We have some good ideas but injuries and personal problems have destroyed many a promising career.

    Remember what the wise owl said;

" Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that is why we call it the present"

  12. What about the players right now? More and more of them are hearing that they are on the trading block. What does that do for moral? We had peters ticked of ,what about some of the others now? Parcells once said that you lose 1 to games are year for every rookie starter because of their lack of game time experience in critical situations. Some people on this board, think that we are going to find 4 or 5 starters in this draft and go on to be Super Bowl contenders.

This may happen, no one knows, but it is highly unlikely. We had a great chance last year and folded.

People will say look at Atlanta or Miami, they did it why not us? We were a big part of Miami's success.

  13. This is what happens when players do not stay in school

They have some NFL skills but could be much better if they had stayed for 1 to 2 more years. Youboty is a prime example, if he had stayed in school he would of been more polished and maybe a high 1st or 2nd round choice. But he wanted the NFL money came out early, got drafted in the 4th. He show some promise early, but injuries and maybe not as focused in training, with an easy coach has put him behind.

I wonder how many players are liking our lame duck coach now[. Players motto should be, have your bags packed you might be going/b]
