  1. I am confused, weren't Williams, Losman, McCargo, Maybin all taken because of position needs? And Whittner was not the best available. The only best available pick has been Spiller and the jury is still out on him. Isn't reaching for positional needs, what got us to where we are? It can't be one or the other, which is exactly what Nix said.

I agree with DiCesare on Modrak, either he has been wrong or he was being ignored, either way he should be gone.

Without knowing what the Bills draft board was, at that time, we do not know how these players were evaluated.

It is always great, to have 20/20 hindsight on players that were drafted and became stars.

Whitner was considered by the Bills to be the BPA, so was Maybin. The Bills considered Williams, the BPA, but they wanted him to play LT, when he was a RT. He failed because he was not a LT and his cost was too much for a RT.

Losaman and McCargo, where the BPA on the Bills board, that is why they traded up for them. The problem is not need verses BPA, it is that the Bills can not evaluate who the BPA is.

  2. I remeber Bledsoe said, that there was 2 things about the Ralph, that he did not like.

1: It was the only crowned field left in the NFL. The middle of the field is about 12 inches higher than the edge of

the field. This was done for drainge. I wonder if this is one of the reasons, we get players hurt a lot.

2: It does not have heating pipes under the field. In winter the field freezes and get really hard.

  3. Here is the problem of finding trading partners. If you want to trade pick #3 to a team between #6 - 10, you have to convince them, that the player they want, is some one you might pick or some team before them might want. If the player, is not someone you are going to take and other teams are looking at other players, then why would they trade?

Another thing I see on this board, is people going crazy over what the Giants gave up to get Eli Manning. So if they can do it, with San Diego, why can't we? The problem is, there is no real impact players in this year's draft. If Luck had come out then there would be some action.

The Bills end up picking 3 in a very weak draft. In my opinion, after pick #8 or 9, every other player picked from 10 to 32, can be lumped together. They are all really second round talent, that will be picked in the first round.

  4. Sorry, but how many 6 round picks make the team each year. Some do, but most do not. Now that the Seahawks advanced to the 2 nd round of the playoffs, the Seahawks picks became even worse value. It was a gamble, that just did not work out as planed. As of right now, the Seahawks pick is #24 in rounds 4 and 6, where the Saints pick is # 21 in round 3.

  5. I am sure, that Lynch is glad he is gone too. He is out of the coaching and player carousel in Buffalo. He is in the playoffs. He is going to round 2 of the playoffs with a tremendous run, that the whole NFL saw on TV. That run, will get him a very good second contract. He is on the west coast, where he wants to be. I bet he sure misses the Buffalo Bills. Poor guy, what a bad trade for him!

  6. CJ was a need, the Bill's needed to sell excitement to the fans. They needed to sell something to the fans, to sell tickets. This is why CJ was drafted. Cj was the most exciting player coming out of college. He could take it to the house from anywhere and at any time. The Bills would unleash the 3 headed monster on the NFL. The Bills would adopt a run first mentality, with these 3 backs. Unfortunately, it did not work out as planed. CJ was much more of a project than they thought. Chan, is more of a passing coach than a run first coach. Lynch and Jackson took reps away from CJ. To showcase CJ, one of them had to go, so Lynch was traded but CJ still did not shine.

  7. This is why the draft is not science. It is a gamble at times. This is why, I think NE changed it's plan. Get as many picks as you can, because not all of them will be good players for various reasons. Take Maroney and Jackson for example. Both should have succeeded, but both failed. They both had size, speed and all of the intangibles but one. They both lacked commitment. Jackson could not run the correct route or remember the playbook. Maroney did not put any effort into improving his running or blocking, then started fumbling the ball away. Fred Jackson, before the season started, was asked about both Green and Maroney. He said Green was always trying to better himself with extra study and work. while Maroney might just be starting to get it. Many draft picks, when they sign the first big contract ,simply no longer put in the effort to become a great player. To me, this is why a rookie wage scale is needed.

  8. They had too many picks to sign just makes sense to trade for next year. They knew the could not re-sign Seymour for the money he wanted, so they bite the bullet and traded him. It hurt them this year but they are slowly rebuilding with younger players. The loss of Gaffney hurt them more than Seymour, Galloway was a real bomb. Both Watson and Graham were there for 5 and 6 seasons. They were good players but not worth elite money to re-sign them. Grahams signing by Denver is one of the nails in Shannies coffin at 7 million a season for what turned out to be a very good blocking tight end with inconsistent pass catching. To me his leaving cost NE the super bowl in 2006. His blocking was sorely missed in that game. Watson just never became a consistent player. Outstanding one game and non-existant the next 2.

  9. They stockpile picks because they know that there will be some misses. The more picks the more chances to hit on good players. The problem is the Bills tend to pick but will not let players go if they do not pan out. This is why we have a lot of players that are medicore at best. remember they have to replace players too and they lose players if FA more than the Bills do. Remember since 2000 they have missed the playoffs twice, both times they tied for division lead but lost out on tie breakers! (9-7 to the Jets in 2002 and 11-5 to the Fins in 2008) I do not think they are smarter than everyone it is just their way of trying to get better. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does't. It has worked better than the Bills way for the last 10 years.

  10. So what have you seen in the last 10 years to prove Sully wrong? CJ is a fantastic addition to the team, but was he a need right now? Sully opinions are just that opinions based on his observations. He felt that the Bills went for flash again rather than adding some needed position help. I think that not picking Clausen or Colt McCoy will come back to hamper this team. They were there in the lower rounds for the picking. Troupe though he seems good was only a player in non major conference. Are you really comfortable with the QBs we have?

  11. The problem was that his replacement Michael Oher was there for the drafting but the Bills skipped over him to draft Maybin. for those of you who were OK for the trade of trading a Pro-bowl LT so that we could grab two guards in the draft. Guards are easy to find, LTs are not. What does the NO PLAYOFFS FOR 10 YEARS mean to you? What does rebuilding again mean? In my opinion the Bills management caused this by signing Walker and Dockery to stupid contracts and letting JP simmer about his contract. So now Walker and Dockery are gone for nothing, and the Bills are still trying to find a replacement at left tackle after trading JP to Philly. Please Bell is just a backup and nothing more, he was thrown into the mix last year and failed.
