  1. Money is the ruiner of all things good. Football for me is almost unwatchable. 1:00 games used to be over by 3:40- now they last until 5 because all the added commercials trying to sell you **** you don't need. And they crank the volume for the commercials, making surround sound unlistenable. I used to go to a lot of Bills games, but there was a gap when I didn't see any for many years. Well I couldn't believe how much standing around between plays there was due to all the commercials. There is no flow. I watch champions league soccer- and it is a superior product IMO because there is flow.

Then there is the pussification and desecration of the game. First no wedges. In the grasp. Moving kick off up. Defenseless receiver. RB can't lower head. Excessive fines. Etc.

The NFL was a beautiful game. I have no idea how anyone could !@#$ it up. But they have

I find this statement to be quite ironic. Considering that several years ago "casual" NFL fans complained that the game was too slow. That's when the NFL decided to "speed up" the game by having the play clock run more. But then this would lead to more and more TV timeouts and longer commercial breaks.

How exactly did this speed up the game?

  2. I have the Mitchell & Ness SB XXV jersey...I have never worn it...but it sure looks sweet!

All this jersey talk reminded me of something. I don't want to start another jersey thread, so here goes:

Does anyone remember when jerseys started to become more prevalant among fan ware? The first one I remember seeing, worn by a fan, not a player, was my brothers (now) ex-wife had a really sweet Lou Piccone jersey in 1980. We would go to games, and everyone would comment on it. She was a petite girl, and while it was a little big on her, it wasn't a real Piccone jersey. I just don't remember people wearing them very commonly. If somebody had one in the stands, it really stood out. Whenever I see old NFL films stuff from the 70's I never see them in the crowd shots. Anyone know the history?

You didn't see them because there was no such thing as NFL Merchandise back then.

There may have been fans wearing buttons and waving pennants about then, but player jerseys did not come around until the late 70's.

  3. Metz, you know the answers to all those questions. The rule changes are to give the perception that the league is really concerned about player safety (rather than impending and continuing law-suits), and the other stuff is all about selling merchendise.

I think Cuban is right. As an NBA owner, he is obviously concerned with the NFL's seeming obessession with having football every night of the week. The NBA has carved out a nice niche for itself in the pro-sports world, and the NFL is obviously threatening that. But, I will be honest. Unless the Bills are playing, I have no real interest in Thursday Night football. I am starting to lose interest in Monday Night Football as well, unless it is the Bills. What used to make the NFL so awesome, in part, was that it was so limited...one day a week, and one game on Monday night. Now, everything is so constant and so accessible, it is taking some lustre off the game.

I completely agree with you, Buftex.

I absolutely love the game of football, and I always will. Having said that, the way the game is being presented to us with having it on 3 times a week, brings the excitement levels down. I remember the anticipation that would build for a week, bringing the anticipation for the games to a high level. Now the anticipation has somewhat dulled.

  4. I wouldn't block. It's all in good fun. I like watching the SJ13 fan club rally with their torches and pitch forks on this site. Makes things interesting. I admire the passion while at the same time detest the intolerance of different opinions. Internet 101.

Bruce Buffer is the Casey Affleck of ring announcing. Or Aaron Boone to keep it sporty.

Does that mean Michael Buffer is Ben Affleck?

  5. I'm not surprised. Unproductive career, coming off injury, and Parker likely over-selling his client are factors working against him. He'll probably have to settle for a 1-year prove-it deal. And odds are, his career will go the way of David Nelson's.

What a shame. Not his fault that he's been a player without a position, and then to have a major injury.

Wouldn't mind if the Bills re-signed him.

  6. I wouldnt mind Britt on a show me type contract,, something easy to get out of, just in case! He has talent and is still young.

D Jackson is a nightmare. He is a small guy but extremely fast. He is also a pain in the asz, n his contract is terrible. No way he restructures to play for B-lo.

If the Bills do sign Britt to a "Show-Me" contract, fine.

As much as I would love to have Jackson on the team, you make some good points about him. Probably would never happen.

  8. Not true..they have numerous large corporations headquartered there...Anheiser Busch, Emerson Electric, Express Scripts, Edward Jones, Monsanto, O'Reilly Automotive, etc...

I know because I went to college in St. Louis(Go Billikens!!) and was very surprised at how many are headquartered there...pretty close to middle of the US and on a major waterway the connects a lot of the US so it makes sense

Here is a list of major fortune 500 companies in St Louis:

Alright, then why do they have so much trouble keeping their NFL team?

  9. What's Larsen going to do with us? I like Frank Summers. He showed great value blocking and I hope we can integrate him in to a catcher, too. IIRC, someone help me out here, he was a RB in college, too.

Larsen is a veteran, and it doesn't hurt to have some competition during camp. My guess is that he's being looked at for Special Teams.
