Interesting.  I would have assumed we'd have saved more, but I guess that means we are under the cap now.

Who's left at this point?  I would think only Oliver.  I don't want us to touch Diggs and kick the can down the road, unless he wants to give some money back like Knox and Von (doubtful).

I'm wondering when we give him a new overall deal though. He's well worth more than his deal.

T Johnson  Unless I missed it

  2. Joe B in the Athletic did one the other day too. Had the Bills extending and resigning some of same players specifically Jones and Lewis.  Had a fairly long list of FA signings too, though not sure of much overlap.  A couple names I do recall, instead of resigning D Jackson, had them bringing back Levi Wallace at CB  and for RB had them signing AJ Dillon, safety had them signing Geno Stone and Maurice Hurst for DT to name a few of his highlights.

  3. If this happened in Buffalo fans would just chop it off during halftime and be back in their seats in time for 3rd quarter KO.

This is one reason why I do not support an 18 week season.  It drives the playoffs deep into cold weather situations.

Recall as recently as the 90's they used to start the season Labor Day weekend, so they could start earlier too if they wanted.

WR- They usually carry 5 but possibly will Carry 6 if one is a special teamer.  Shorter has never played a snap and even tho Harty ans Sherfield we’re not great last year he never stuck on the roster or played much when he was called up. I don’t think either one is a guarantee. Sherfield is also a FA. Right now the only 2 WR we know will be on the team are Diggs and Shakir. I would imagine 1 of hamler, Isabella, shorter makes the team and we add a minimum of 2 WR but more likely 3 -4 with one being a returner/special teams guy

You hear/read posts all the time and comments themselves from the Bills, the team needs to draft and develop players to stay out of salary cap problems.  But yet you're ready to give up on Shorter who was just drafted last year in 5th round.  Signing, drafting, and spending money on players that don't have a clear spot to make the roster is a waste and will keep you in cap trouble all the time.

If Shorter is not on the team this year, that would be a big failure by the Bills in that they totally wasted a draft pick without ever giving him a chance to see what he can and can't do.  But I have faith in the team that they are smart enough to not do something that stupid and he will be on the roster this year.

Likely the Bills have room for  2 WR unless they want to waste more money.  Just glad you're not the GM, or maybe you're actually Russ Brandon posting with a new name as this sounds like something he'd have done!

Based on the number of players the bills usually carry at each position this appears to be the team needs:

    saftey- 2-3 more players

    CB - 1-2 more players

    LB- 1-2 more players

    DE- 2-3 more players

    DT- 3-4 more players

    OL- 1-2 more players

    RB- 2 more players

    WR- 3-4 more players

    TE- None

    QB- None

We Are looking at 15-20 potential additions to the roster in FA in the draft. I expect to make about 8 draft picks after Beane moves around so we are likely going to bring in about 10 free agents (some of those being players who could have been on roster last year

Love to hear how you came up with these numbers other than wishful thinking?  TE none, yet they carried 3 all season and now only have two plus one ERFA  At WR they have 4 signed, Shakir, Diggs, Shorter, and Sherfield 5 if you count Isabella and all they ever carried was 5.  But yet you state they need 3 to 4 more!!  2 at RB is about right, will give you that one.

    2 words- game changer! 👍

In college yes, but need to look at how that will translate to NFL where everyone he faces compares to the maybe handful of players he'd face every week that were that good.

The legal tampering period starts the 11th and FA the 13th so he has a little time. And I know he said he plans on being under the cap by the end of next week.

But I have Football ADHD dang it!  Make some moves so we know what's what!! 🤣

When do you plan to change the title to:

Anyone like me wanting Beane to hurry up slow down?

Spotrac has us at 7mil over the cap currently (I am not sure if all of the moves are reflected) but obviously before any Allen deal.

Going off this number; and 11 mil for rooks, it looks like they’ll have 10 or so mil at minimum to play with in free agency if they get the Allen money converted.

So couldn't the Bills wait till June 1st to sign all the rookies and that would allow them to use the $10mil saving from White to pay them with?

I'll take a Keenum any day over a Trubisky.

Why not try to get better at the position?  Maybe you hit on a Brock Purdy late in the draft or some other mobile QB.

Tyrod, Minshew and Wentz are out there.  All are much better options than Trubisky - unless Beane feels the price would be too high.

Wentz?? Lost me on that one.  And even the others are debatable to some level.  Maybe Minshew I'd agree with, but how much did he want?

Many of these guys are only interested in going to openings where they have a chance to be the starter.  Giants was a great place for TT as their starting QB often got hurt and was debatable if he even should be a stater.  So good chance at some point over 17 games, Jones would get benched at some point if not hurt.  In Buffalo you know Allen is the starter as long as healthy, end of debate.  On top of that as big as he is, he's not likely to get hurt as much as say a guy like Lamar or Tua

The basis for you even asking this question is that he was extended once before. The Bills need to stop kicking the can down the road on a 32 year old with a concussion history (no - it does not matter how long ago - whet does matter is his history of them).

The Bills, having now traded Bates, are likely to draft his eventual replacement and pay him the $11mil this season.

Well guess we were both right.  They didn't kic the can down, but didn't pay the $11 mil either.

  10. 6 minutes ago, BarleyNY said:

Yes. The team does not pay that or any other non-guaranteed money.

The contract sits on the books as if he was still on the team until 6/1. The only difference is that the team is not obligated to pay work out bonuses, roster bonuses, etc.

so if not paying for these things it in turn lowers the amount over the cap?

Matt Araiza was just chilling out there all off season and we bring back Matt freaking Haack??  He has like a 20yd punt average with the Bills

I'm sure he wanted nothing more than to come back to Buffalo, the team that cut him even though he was innocent.  Good point!!

I'll be surprised if that happens considering the overall cap position they are in.   My bet is an extension with void years.  Initially I thought they may cut Morse and give the job to Bates, but that's not happening now.

    We shall see!

It's all about the salary they sign with their new team.  It has nothing to do with where they were drafted in the past.

OK so we're not getting a 3rd because we lost a 1st rounder in Edmunds, it's completely because of the contract he signed with Bears?

It's based on the salary that the player signs for. Low salary = late pick.

OK so it's more about the salary than what round the player the team lost was drafted in?

  15. So I know the Bills are expected to get a comp pick for Edmunds in the 3rd.

I see there are comp picks in all the other lower rounds too at the way down to the 7th.  Wondering what does a team have to lose to only get say a 6th or 7th round comp pick?  The water boy?? Chain gang?

And I assume the Bills have no shot at any of those??

    To be:

    Worse

    Better

    About the Same

    Arguments for worse:

Losing key players can't afford to keep

Most of D line free agents

    May have cap casualties

Cap hell..cant pick up any real impact players

Drafting low each round..Best talent already off the board

    Argument for Better:

Lots of key positions already locked up like O-line..can target areas of need.

Bills may get discount from some players in free agency as they are a contender

Trust Beanes scouting to pick up talent at a discount...see:Poyer/Hyde

Good depth in WRs in the draft. many gems may be available in middle rounds.

Beane may swing the surprise trade to move up in draft getting impact player

      See: Kincaid

    What say you?

Think last year at this time, most posters here were expecting the worst, but after draft everyone was saying how roster was better overall.
