The only chance, the ONLY chance, Coleman’s defender had to take Cook out of the play is if he and the LB communicated before the snap to switch off (which would’ve been highly unlikely given the player each is guarding). In that instance we all would’ve saw the DB bail on Coleman once he settles and start sprinting back to defend Cook on the long ball. Here he stays tight on his responsibility and remains in Coleman’s hip pocket, so he has zero chance of playing any upfield pass that goes to Cook. Not even Usain Bolt or Christian Coleman could’ve got to Cook flat footed like that. Wouldn’t even happen in a video game with speed levels at 99.

I took your post to mean that Allen wasn’t one of the 5 contributing reasons to why we lost the Texans game. I also remember a similar post about his performance in the Jets game and thought that was you again, so my apologies there. You understand that we fans live week to week. Posts that spring up on the board aren’t about the totality of whatever that player brings to the team, it’s about his performance in that given week. Why on earth would anyone harp about what Allen has done in the last 5 years when the Texans loss is what we’re discussing? That doesn’t make sense to me. Allen is the singular reason for why the Bills are relevant again… he’s also one of the contributing reasons for why the offense struggles to move the ball in losses. Both can be true. And he’s allowed to be criticized like any other player. To do so is not an obsession.

I’m actually the opposite - l’m not glad there’s a thread criticizing his play because that means he’s not playing well. When multiple Bills players come forward to say “we believe in 17” it tells you they also know he’s playing poorly and want to show their support by publicly backing him. Yet throughout all this, we still have posters who say “Allen wasn’t bad, he was made to look bad thanks to his teammates.” It’s a weird form of idolization. We are fortunate that we have a top 3, top 5, or whatever you want to label Allen as a QB, but feeling fortunate doesn’t mean he is absolved from any and all blame when he plays poorly. I wish threads like these never existed because that would mean that Allen would never be the chief reason for a loss.

And Mahomes would’ve hit at least one of the two gimme TDs to Kincaid or Hollins. I’m not even counting the potential TD Cook could’ve had in the pic being circulated here, I don’t trust him to catch that ball like a WR. The other QB greats have a floor that is higher than Josh’s, so saying they’d all look just as bad is silly. It’s also saying plays weren’t available to be had which is wrong. It’s games like these that tarnish Allen’s MVP prospects.

I remember Dan Orlovsky last year said that Allen needs to “grow up,” after that Jets performance. Said he literally holds the future of the staff in his hands with every throw he attempts. This game against Houston was another one of those mind-numbingly bad games he seems to have every year and I don’t get it. A 7 year vet who at this point has seen every defense you want to throw at him, by all accounts is very smart, can literally make any throw on the field, but is still getting taken to the wood shed mentally. Regardless of whatever offensive system he’s in, or who he’s surrounded by, his floor should be much higher than this and I don’t understand why it’s not. If you could be a fly on the wall in the box where Brady calls the game, no doubt he’s said at least once “he (Josh) is killing us.”

Not challenging Dalton sideline catch or Cook TD

No, his foot was the first thing that landed and that was for sure in bounds. We need to get the actual video and break that down because watching it live, I thought his elbow hit the green and white simultaneously. I did believe he was out, but it was closer than what people on this board were saying. Also didn’t think his elbow landed that far in bounds, picture looks doctored or something because here it’s clearly a catch. You can see the pellets from his elbow. -
KC Chief fans are spoiled. NE Patriots fans were spoiled. The Bills are still lovable losers. We haven’t won a *darn* thing.

Simms Podcast Bills chatter starts at the 29:30 mark. EDIT: also, it’s interesting how differently those watching tape see things. I just opened Cover 1’s explanation of why the Bills offense is struggling and one of the plays highlighted was the same one Simms spoke about. Erik from Cover 1 claimed a Texans LB shut down a big gainer to Cook, while Simms said that’s exactly where Allen should’ve went with the ball. Having just seen the play again I agree 100% with Simms, the pass was there. Would Cook have caught it? I don’t know, but he dusted that LB. It was certainly a potentially better pass than the attempt Allen had on that play when he rolled right and launched it to a better covered receiver. **Also, also, about the much debated pass [spoiler alert] Simms said it should’ve been thrown inside and that Allen rushed the throw.

I don’t like that Bishop is learning on the job, but I feel he absolutely needs to be out there for the growth. He’s the future. I felt the same about Dorian Williams last year who kept making mistakes. I wanted him to take his lumps as well, because he’s also the future. These young, plus athletic draft picks need the time on task. The likes of Hamlin and AJ Klein offer no upside.

Many here don’t understand the basics of this connection and why asking Hollins to play towards the sideline doesn’t fit the route he was running nor the shoulder he was looking over. And they still won’t comprehend it after reading it for the 100th time. It will always be “Mack Hollins fault” because he’s a replacement level receiver.

Josh Allen Performance Yesterday..a Redux
Brand J replied to Rich Stadium Original's topic in The Stadium Wall
Both QBs definitely have different styles of play and operate out of different systems, that’s not debatable. Just thinking of their response to pressure in the pocket, Josh almost always bails to his right - inviting the DE or LB with him - if he doesn’t like what he sees initially, or feels pressure. Contrast that with Mahomes who whirly derby’s in the pocket until one of his receivers shakes free. I brought that up yesterday during the game watching him juke lineman after lineman. I was happy when they finally brought him down because I wasn’t looking forward to the incoming ball washing that was surely to follow had he escaped. Josh’s method eliminates half the field and puts urgency on him to throw the ball because the sideline is coming fast, he’s running out of room. Mahomes method keeps the entire field of play available and extends the clock indefinitely - until someone gets to him, he throws the ball, or rushes past the LoS. Josh’s weapons are subpar, but he’s also not doing himself any favors missing the chunk plays that spring available - especially in an offense that doesn’t have the strongest skill positions. Reading the defense, knowing where to go with the ball, staying in a clean pocket, delivering an accurate pass, we need more from Josh in these areas. Whatever offensive system he’s in, I don’t think it’s too much to ask. -
Hire Saleh as defensive coordinator IMMEDIATELY
Brand J replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
I like Babich. The defense has its issues but it’s severely undermanned and somehow Bobby’s still getting production. The loss to Houston wasn’t on him. I would like to see Elam supplant Lewis or Ingram as I think he has the physical attributes the defense desperately needs, but I’m not in practice every day to assess who’s doing what so we’ll have to live with our first round CB riding the bench. -

Simmer down, guys, we’d be 0-5 with Mahomes. @GoBills808 said so! -
Wish your fellow Florida Bills fans luck....

Stay safe out there! Probably not the best time to say it, but I still don’t know why anyone would choose to live there. You guys get hit with a tropical storm or hurricane seemingly every year! -
Josh Allen Performance Yesterday..a Redux
Brand J replied to Rich Stadium Original's topic in The Stadium Wall
Allen and Mahomes definitely handle pocket pressure differently, no one can dispute that. Overall, their ceilings are comparable, but Patty’s floor is still much higher than Josh’s. Mahomes has never looked as bad as Josh has at his worst. I’m still loyal to the laundry over any player, so if you gave me the option to trade Josh for Patty - as annoying as Mahomes is - I’d do it in a heartbeat. It’s not that I don’t think Josh can win a championship with less around him, I do, but Patty has that extra little magic and consistency that I believe in a little bit more. And yes, I know he also has Chris Jones who has a knack for making the big defensive play at the most opportune time. Josh has never had that player on defense, but I’d still roll with Pat. -
You notice how he whirly derbys in the pocket too, he doesn’t just beeline to the sideline when the pocket breaks down or he doesn’t like what he’s seeing. Brady was the master side stepper, Mahomes is the whirly derby. It’s annoying to watch him buy time by spinning circles around the DL and then fire an accurate pass for a first down.
-
I’ve got two favorite deep ones: the ball to Robert Foster against the Jags and the ball to Gabe Davis against KC in the playoffs. Both were thrown with such touch and accuracy that the receiver couldn’t help but catch it. It’s in Allen to complete these passes more often than not. He needs to figure out why he struggles mightily with them.

Not challenging Dalton sideline catch or Cook TD
Brand J replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
McD said in the presser he didn’t get to see either on replay, given we were in the Texans house, so he deferred to his people whether to challenge or not. They told him not to.
