I can relate to this for sure. Last season was the first time since becoming a Bills fan almost 30 years ago that I really didn't give a fart if they won or lost by the time the end of the season rolled around. In fact, it depleted my interest in football as a whole for about three months, which never happens to me. If they didn't wipe out the coaching staff and bring in some guys that I have a great deal of faith in, I'd still be feeling that way. But I've learned enough about Marrone, Hackett, and Pettine that I'm really starting to get excited about the possibilities of this upcoming season. I really like what they did in the draft and I feel pretty strongly that Dave "Im only here as a favor to Chan" Wannstedt didn't even come close to tapping into the potential of some of our players on that side of the ball. Pettine WILL, and I think the D will be the biggest surprise of our 2013 campaign. If we end up flopping again, I'll be the first in line to kick myself in the balls.

Mayock revised his opinion of EJ after watching more game tape. Initially he wasn't too keen on him, but he said that was mainly because the game films he saw initially included the Florida game and one or two others that weren't his best showings. But once he included a few more games and looked at a larger body of work, he moved EJ into his #2 QB position and was very positive on him as a prospect.

Interesting, thanks! My experience with Jeff has pretty much been limited to the tracks on his "Grace" album (which is one of my favorite albums), so I'm going to look up a few of those other performances I haven't seen. I sort of wish the film had a bit more meat on the bones, as it was a tad slow in the beginning, but it did a good job of taking things to a deeper, more interesting place in the second half. The recreation of the performance at the end was fantastic.

I know there are quite a few Jeff Buckley fans here on TBD, so thought this might be of interest... Tonight I saw that the new film about Tim and Jeff Buckley, "Greetings From Tim Buckley", was available for rent so I decided to check it out. It touches upon the life and music of Tim, but focuses mainly on Jeff's struggle to process his thoughts and feelings about his dad. It's centered on a live tribute performance that was being given at a church in NYC to celebrate the music of Tim and Jeff's role in that. I thought that part of it was actually fiction, but apparently this performance really did happen in 1991. Music affects all of us in different ways, but every now and again I'll hear a song for the first time and just become mesmerized by it. I had never heard the song "Once I Was" by Tim Buckley, so when it was performed by the actor playing Jeff during the movie I was quite moved by it. I happened to check on youtube after the movie and sure enough they had the original recording of Jeff performing this song at that very concert. To give you a time frame, this was in 1991, which was about three years prior to when Jeff recorded the album "Grace". This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard....enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy7qTC2Sno4

The more I learn about him, the more I agree with this...I cant wait to see how he develops!

Yeah, that would be pretty tough to do... You bet...I need to go back and listen to it again, cause he made a very interesting point about pass rushers. He said that too many teams pick players they THINK will be successful pass rushers in the pros and often pass over the players who got to the QB most often in college. He had some data on it, too, but I was sorta tired when I was listening. I also remember him saying that EJ was one of only two QBs that he would have drafted this year, and I'm PRETTY sure the 2nd one wasn't Geno, it was Landry Jones. I think his rationale was that EJ and Landry had the most potential upside depending on the team and system they were drafted into. Colin, who usually hacks all over the Bills, also sort of defended the pick, which was surprising. We all need to send Prisco a letter after EJ lights it up...tell him to lube up that "F" grade, turn it sideways, and stick it up his candy ass. (/TheRock)

(I didnt' see this posted anywhere else, but if it was, feel free to delete or merge) So I've been finding it interesting going back and listening to some podcasts from before or during the draft, just to compare the "experts" opinions to what actually went down. Obviously I've paid particular attention to any mentions of our boy EJ. One of the shows I listened to last night was the Thundering Herd (Colin Cowherd) cast from Friday afternoon prior to day 2 of the draft. Colin had a guy named Paul Bessire on his show who has a background as a statistician and sports journalist. He had a lot of interesting things to say about the draft and how many teams make the mistake of placing less emphasis on production (during the college years) and more on how a player's physicality or combine-type stats fit their idea of what an NFL player should look like. He eventually got around to discussing the QB class for this year and his statistical projections of what each will do if they were to start "for an average NFL team against an average NFL schedule" in the 2013 season. He has EJ ranked as the 48th player overall, and the 4th ranked QB in this class. He qualified that by saying that even though EJ was ranked 4th, he showed the greatest amount of variability in terms of the stats, which he interpreted to meaning he was a "boom or bust" type player and that his success would be largely dependent on the system he played in and how well it fit his strengths. According to this guy, if EJ started all 16 games in 2003, his projected stats would be as follows: ATT: 496 COMP: 293 %60.4 YDS 3589 TDs: 18.5 INT: 17.3 It was a very interesting conversation and the amount of information on this guy's website is pretty impressive. You can view it at www.predictionmachine.com Here is a link to the page with the QB projections from 2013, and below is the list of projections from the 2012 QBs if anyone wants to compare to what they actually did during the season. http://www.predictionmachine.com/nfl-draft-2013-quarterback-rankings-projections http://www.predictionmachine.com/nfl-draft-2012-projections#QB2011

mmmmm no. It's because he actually DID sound like he tied on a few to my ears. After seeing other interviews with him, though, it looks as though that's just how he speaks. As others said, hopefully it's just a guy living the college life and making a mistake and there isn't anything to worry about going forward. We need a guy like this to bring some grit and attitude to our LB corp, so if Buddy and Coach are comfortable with him, that's good enough for me.

I agree, the draft coverage was fantastic, as was the post-draft interviews and analysis. It's been great getting to know some of these rooks, as well as what others thought of the draft. It's resulted in my rooting for EJ more than I figured I would be so early on. JP let me down, cause I was pretty psyched when he took so well to the city, so Im hoping EJ is the real deal. Another great way to hear the show is on the here: http://tunein.com/ I use this app more than anything else on my phone. Just about any radio station or podcast you could want from anywhere in the world. They even have some higher quality music streams up to 320kbps if that's of any interest. I spend hours a day listening to Adam Corolla, Murph, Dan Patrick, Rich Eisen, etc, etc.

I sorta know what you mean. I distinctly remember him taking the approach of, "well, technically we're not out of it yet...the Bills could still turn it around and make the playoffs!" It was a little annoying when he departed from reality, but overall I think he's good about keeping it real. Missed Murph tonight, but Sal did a good job with Marlon Kerner.

Definitely! I love how more and more of us have been discussing the show, so just makes sense to have it all in one thread so it's easier to keep track of. The thing I love about John is that he's not only a great interviewer, but he's also a fan. You can tell how much he loves the city and the team, and he is great about asking about the stuff that we want to know more about. He does a great job of being professional and candid, which is sometimes lost on some radio show hosts. You nailed it when you said that you can get a full dose of info from just one show...I love how he starts things off getting us caught up on not just Bills news, but also any other notable stories from around the NFL, before he starts into the main segments of the show. EDIT: By the way, I thought the interview with Marquis Goodwin was really good last night. Marquis sounds like a guy who is supremely motivated to succeed at the next level and he is all business. He brings more to the table in terms of his skillset than I thought, too. This is a player to watch. It was also really interesting when John was discussing Marv Levy's view that it's not the rooks but the 2nd year guys who really make or break the progress of the team. He involved the callers in a discussion of which 2nd year players are ready to take the next step in their development and become solid starters. Potentially, last year was a very solid draft class. John loves the idea of Bradham stepping up and building off of the experience he gained last season, but several others were mentioned, as well...Brooks, Gilmore, TJ, and Cordy Glenn, specifically. I think someone also mentioned Zebrie Sanders, who is going to be on the show tonight (pretty sure, anyway) Darth Vader as our MLB? Git'r'done!

I watch the show to see what Barry is up to, so these three are no big loss.

Very smart...she's only in her late 50s, so I could see her re-gaining some of that appeal she had in her younger years. -
Here's the most recent interview I could find...not sure if it makes me feel better or worse lol As long as the kid stays out of trouble and produces, I'll be his biggest supporter. I've taken care of several victims of someone nailed with a DUI, so it's not something I make light of or disregard. As long as he learned from it and doesn't do it again, he's good in my book.
-
He also has a DUI and an alcohol-related theft charge, so he's going to be under a bit of a microscope until he puts some distance in there. My roommate is Cuban and I live in an area where I often communicate with non-English speaking Hispanics. It didn't come off as if he lacked command of the English language...it came off like he was feeling good. I hope that WASN'T the case, cause we need this guy to keep his head clean and produce on the field. Nice, thanks I hope that we can all follow your lead and post links to the best segments as we come across them. John does a fantastic job balancing interesting interviews with news, insider opinion, and caller feedback. Every once in a while Thurman comes on, which are some of my favorite shows. We get his thoughts on the current happenings at One Bills Drive along with some great stories from our glory years.

I live in Atlanta and was really surprised when I heard they were looking at a new stadium, too. What REALLY surprised me was when I heard they were likely going to demolish the GA Dome once the new stadium was ready. The GA Dome is really nice...I thought for sure they would just use it for college games, other sporting events, and expos or whatever. But I heard on the local sports station that they were planning to demolish the place. That really seems like a waste...I hope that the source was wrong about that. That being said, those new designs are very cool....and I hate domes.

lol, that would have helped for sure

I've noticed that there are more an more of us who have been listening to this excellent show. I think it's time that John have one central thread where we can all share feedback on what goes down. He is great at asking the questions that we, as fans, want answers to and I try not to miss any broadcasts. As has been mentioned before, for those of you who might live outside of Blo and want to listen, download the tune-in radio app and search for John Murphy Show and/or WGR. I'd like to start it off by asking if someone can please translate WTF Kiko Alonso said on tonight's show. I only caught the tail end of the interview, but that was plenty. I'm uneasy about this guy's criminal past, and all the mumbling and slurring of his words tonight didn't do much to make me any more optimistic about him. I hope Im wrong, but I wasn't impressed at all with what I heard tonight. Contrast that with yesterday when he had EJ's former high school coach on for an interview. That was great and I encourage you guys to check it out on buffalobills.com

I loved when they re-released them. I know some are critical of the special editions, but I geeked out to it big time. I was working full time and taking a full course load at Temple U, and I remember what a great distraction it was to see my favorite films of all time on the big screen again. It was also a great opportunity for another generation to experience the theatrical presentation, just like others who were in your situation. -

I don't care what anyone says, she was pretty hot back in the day. -
Wow, I don't know what to make of that. Nice seeing Charlie Hunnam getting the lead, though. As frustrated as I've become with Sons of Anarchy the last season or two, he's always one of the bright spots in the cast/story. Looking forward to seeing if the early reviews match up with the epic scale of the CGI.

Never said it did. Someone asked how it was I could say I'd miss a player when he wasn't able to get it done on the field. I happen to like Shep's approach to the game...regardless of the degree of success he had.
-
Just because someone doesn't work out doesn't mean I'm gonna piss on them when they leave. What I'll miss is his fire for the game and this team, and the fact that he was self-motivated to give his best effort. He's got heart, and that's a lot more than can be said of some players.

How cool is that! -
Dang, I really liked Shep. I'm all for the trade cause the front office and Pettine know a helluva lot more than I do, but ever since getting to know more about Shep when he was on the John Murphy show last year, he's been one of my favorites. The kid just loves the game of football and I respect that. Sad to see him go, but we gotta do what's best for the team. Good luck, Shep!! Will miss ya, brother.
