Yes, I think he very much does.  Speed on the field comes from a lot of things, not just as you put it “underwear Olympics” forty times.

For example, anyone who thinks Worthy is gonna play as fast as Tyreek Hill are puzzling to me.  Hill has elite speed in every capacity, not just straight line speed and is strong and physical despite his short height.

I mean I would take Polk right now over Coleman for example who by almost all accounts is projected to go ahead of Polk.  Coleman does have some separation concerns and he isn’t as good on contested catches as Polk and doesn’t have the level of ball skills Polk has which I think is only second to Odunze in this draft, and a close second.

Honestly I would take Polk over Worthy, Legette, Coleman and Pearsall, all guys projected to go ahead of him.

Worthy to me lacks the strength and frame to be a true WR1, especially in Buffalo.

Legette has maybe a higher ceiling, but also a much lower floor as he is not nearly as polished in many of the areas Polk is.

Pearsall I think is better suited as a WR2, although I do think he had potential to be a great WR2.

And Coleman as I said has question marks about creating separation at the next level.  I’m worried he is Gabe Davis with better hands if he can’t separate in the NFL enough.

If we don’t trade up, the top 5 wish list guys for me are currently:  Mitchell, McConkey, Franklin, Polk, Legette.  I  would take Mitchell at 28, but would probably try and trade back if I was going after one of the other guys.

If we trade up, then obviously any of the big 4 are excellent options for us.  My guess would be that Thomas is the most obtainable or maybe Odunze.

The Chiefs LOVE Polk and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he’s their first round pick.

I just don’t see how you can look past his 0% separation rate against college DB’s and think he will be fine against NFL corners.

Massive red flag to draft this guy in the first two rounds

I oddly think he could be used as a "big slot" type (spare me the "your mom" jokes here please).  When you watch him run drills he's surprisingly fluid and agile.  Maybe he'd be better off on the move than as a boundary receiver.

I agree completely on Troy Franklin.  If they go WR with their first pick,  I think it likely comes from the group of Franklin,  McConkey,  Worthy,  and Legette (possibly also Wilson if they trade down).

I'm not as convinced on Coleman.  Due diligence,  sure,  but I think there's too much role overlap with Dalton Kincaid.

Just fyi, that same piece by McGinn notes concerns about Legette's intelligence.  He's not only a one-year wonder but he's also a late bloomer and the whispers are that it's because he's just not very bright (or perhaps, to be fair, learning disabled).  In any event I would think that's just as much if not more of a red flag for this regime than Mitchell's Type 1 diabetes.  This regime likes students of the game.

I understand what you're saying and I don't believe for a second that KC doesn't want that to change. We also don't have the luxury of a Reed, a Travis Kelsey or that defense that they had last year either but going back to my point. As great as Allen is, it's not cool to not have elite WRs unless we want to keep watching dropped balls and miscommunication.

    Stick to draft rumors please!!

I do think they could move up for Thomas too, how far is up for debate.  My guess is the same as you, probably needs to get to 20 or later.

If we don't move up, then I think in the post Diggs era now that someone like Ladd McConkey who has that elite route running ability we are losing with Diggs becomes much more in play than before.  In fact, I have a feeling the only 2 we would look at with pick 28 is Mitchell or McConkey.  We could also move back and try and pick up say a 3rd this year and maybe still get McConkey, although I don't think he would make it past both Balt and KC personally.

I have been very high on McConkey but wasn't sure if he would be high on the Bills board with Diggs here.  But Diggs trade I think elevates his potential to us and he is my WR5 on board behind Thomas.  Followed by Mitchell as the 6 guys I think we could take in the first.  Not sold they would stay at 28 and take one of the other WR's.  Could see them trading back a little bit or taking another position and then making a move for a WR in the 2nd.

Be awesome if we could trade back a little bit and get back a 3rd and still get one of McConkey, Legette, Mitchell, etc.

Find a way to get BOTH McConkey and Mitchell.  Hard but not impossible.

He said "you should have been training instead of playing golf." Josh doesn't like being held accountable. Diggs was the only player on this team that wanted to win and held other players accountable. Now we have no leadership

I think there is some truth here.  I wouldn’t say “no leadership” but I do think that Allen will have to find a higher level of commitment and leadership this year for the Bills to have the same amount of success.

I'd be shocked if either McConkey or Legette is off the board before #28. The Bills feel like the start of the range for both players IMO. I think Ladd then has some other possible fits late in the first - San Fran (if Aiyuk is to be moved) and KC.... possibly even Baltimore (if they have finally decided Bateman isn't it). I think if the Bills don't take Legette he is a 2nd rounder.... but there are half a dozen potential landing spots early in the 2nd - Carolina, Washington, New England, Chargers (if they got OL in round 1), even possibly Tennessee. I think Ladd is a possible fit in some of those spots too. Then #44 to #51 is where I expect a mammoth receiver run:

#44 Raiders - have Adams at 31 on a huge deal with an out after this year, Meyers and then literally nothing else.

#45 Saints - need a running mate for Olave (think they'd want a bigger guy so Legette, Coleman etc are in play)

#46 Colts - less likely as they have a decent top 3 - Pittman, Pierce, Downs.... but there is still room to upgrade

#47 Giants - might take one early but what if they go QB in round 1? They'd then be almost certain to go WR their next pick

#48 Jax - again might go that route round 1 but if they don't I'd expect them to here

#49 Bengals - lost Boyd and Higgins uncertainty

#50 Eagles - not an urgent need by AJ Brown drama this year feels a lot like the Diggs drama last year and 2024 might be a last ride

#51 Steelers - traded Johnson away means it is slim pickings opposite Pickens.

In those eight picks I think you could easily see four or five receivers go off the board. It is why I think early 40s is the last possible target zone for the Bills if their plan really is to trade back from #28, or trade up to double dip.

Totally agree.  A trade up for Thomas if he falls, or trading up one or two slots for Mitchell or McConkey, then an aggressive move up to the top 8 of round 2 to “double dip” is my dream scenario, AND I’d add a vet like OBJ.  Two kids who can grow together (Worthy and Thomas, Ladd and Mitchell or Legette) and you’ve fixed the position and cost-controlled it for four years without leveraging your future with a massive trade up.  Plus add a vet like OBJ and suddenly the worst WR room in the league is one of the deepest.

  8. Who is his agent holy moly.  Got Diggs and his impossible to trade contract traded to his preferred destination, got him more guaranteed $$ for 2024, and got him the opportunity to get himself a new deal in 2025.

That is superb representation right there.

    Wow.

No offense CT, but you and over half the board went nuts when Beane traded away Watkins and it ended up being a tremendous move.

Diggs did play at an underwhelming level through the last half of the season and has not played at a high level through the playoffs throughout his career.

No doubt that replacing Diggs regular season production will be tough, but the Bills did play their best football when Diggs went virtually absent.  He is turning 31, he is not on the upswing, he is on the decline.

Will he play at a pro bowl caliber level this next year?  I wouldn't bank against that possibility, he will be highly motivated and Stroud will want to get him the ball, but I think it's evident that he didn't want to be a Bill any longer.

The Bills have a very good TE in Kincaid who from my perspective will be a pro bowl level TE who could very well see 100 receptions this year.  Shakir has shown lots of great signs of being a quality receiver, Curtis Samuel is a nice player plus Cook is a weapon from the backfield.   So there is a solid young nucleus of weapons who are all on the upswing.

I have no doubt that the Bills will obtain another high quality prospect and possibly two more to round out the receiving room.

This Diggs move will free up $27 Million in cap space in 2025, which means that Beane will have money to go after another high end FA next year.

Look at the weapons Brady had in some of his super bowl years, Gronk and Welker and a bunch of system JAGS and Brady was able to distribute the ball around for years.   Look at Mahomes the past two years, Kelce and JuJu were his best weapons the year before and last year it was Kelce and a rookie in Rasheed.

The point is that Elite QB's make receivers look good and the nucleus of weapons that are already on the team and the draft ahead of the Bills should be able to put up more offensive weapons than Mahomes has had the past two years.

I am sure I didn’t go “nuts” about the trade itself but I am sure I was angry about the lack of investment in the position.  Same as now.  They’ve known who this guy is for several years and they should’ve been loading up on young talent to replace him instead of chasing to fill the gap when we’re weeks away from rookies reporting.

  10. Again, though, for those of you saying "Beane has a plan" - if he had a "plan" why didn't it involve targeting more WRs in LAST YEAR'S draft than Justin Shorter?  Now they're scrambling to fill a hole that should've been addressed already.

  11. Worth going back and reading this from 2020.

“His standing in the Minnesota offense was just one of several slights that didn’t seem to sit well with Diggs, and early on last season, it became obvious to those around the Vikings organization that the union between the wideout and the franchise was fraying. He missed practice despite not being listed with an injury, used cryptic emojis in his tweets, and eventually said he was “frustrated” with Minnesota’s 2-2 start.”

    And this:

“Yet as great as Diggs had been for Minnesota, his departure seemed inevitable. A month into 2019, the receiver responsible for the most spectacular touchdown in Vikings history skipped team meetings and a practice over displeasure with their run-heavy offense. He was painted as petulant and selfish. The Vikings fined him $200,000.”

this is where i am at.

i want to hear what Beane says and more information to come out.

there has been a lot of smoke and there was probably always a fire considering shipping him out.

the extension we put him on years ago wasn't even used yet - so that is the most confounding part. we are reacting now after trying to bring him in for a long time. that extension was pure garbage to react early and now we are who knows where.

Yup.  The extension was a reaction to pressure from Diggs and now the trade is a reaction to pressure from Diggs (Houston was his preferred destination) and so Beane has just put a “kick me” sign on his own nuts.  All of the agents know now that Beane is easy to manipulate.
