1. God bless you both. Life is a truly fragile gift. Football is a game. I'll pray for you.
2. Everyone wanted our team to take "the next step" this year. What's all the complaining about? 0-3 to 1-2 seems like an improvement to me! I will side with the posters here and relax. A lot can happen. Spikes' situation, however, is sickening. If he truly ruptured his achilles, he'll be lucky to be full speed by mini camp.
3. count me as remaining ON the bandwagon.
4. (of course, that play call on 4th down may be the single worst play call i have ever seen...well, 2nd worst, behind the bledsoe screen to the king against baltimore) 453166 Call me a weirdo...but I still laugh (out loud) when the king high steps it into the endzone. Sure was the only highlight today.
5. Well put! I'm not sure about 14, but I'm still hoping for the playoffs. The Jets lost a stinker at home and the Pats may join us at 1-2. Oh, and the fins....nah!
6. I agree with you to a point but we all knew what was coming with a rookie QB. He may have "sucked" today but we did somehow manage 16 points and if our D was playing as well as they billed themselves, we would have won today. I still believe we have a top 5 defense. Unfortunately, it's our ranking in our current 4 team division and nowhere near the top 5 D's of all time.
7. My face has been in a permanent all week as I'm still mindf--king what Desmond meant by "Race around the world." And the phrase "You have to lift it up" will have some relevance later on; it wasn't stressed and repeated for no reason. 452337 My initial reaction to the "you have to lift it up" statement was that Desmond was referencing the hatch. I may be completely off base but it was my immediate thought when he said it. I must say, however, that I was shocked to actually realize it was him inside the hatch. I thought the first scene was a flashback of Sawyer. This show just keeps getting better.
8. Anyone see the "highlights" of Culpepper's day? So much for having a veteran with experience. Culpepper throws five picks and it's a bad day. If JP had done that today, many here would be torching him. I realize the difference is obvious in that Culpepper has earned the right to stink it up. Regardless, it shows that even the All-Pros can stank from time to time. Give JP the keys, sit back and hope he develops. No matter what anyone's opinion of him is, I think it's clear he has a fire we have not seen since Kelly and he has, perhaps, the most complete set of physical tools of any QB we've ever had. The potential (arm, legs, guts) is great. We have the fortune or misfortune, depending on your perspective, to watch this guy develop. I, for one, am going to forget today and look forward to his next start. We are all pretty upset here today, but I guarantee you .... nobody is more irked or motivated right now than Losman.
9. Talk about rehabilitating athletes. This guy goes from being a peeping tom holding a sausage biscuit to the hottest commodity in the NFL!
10. Anyone else not getting games for the last 30 minutes or so? thanks..
11. Gameplan? It seemed we didn't have one or failed to make any adjustments. I completely agree with the comments about lack of hot routes over the blitzing backers and beneath the two deep zones. NEVER saw it. Also kept waiting for a screen. I think we were going to run one wide receiver screen and got flagged for a penalty. We needed to do something to prevent TB from acting like every down was 3rd and 20. Was it me, or did Ronde Barber blitz on 80% of their defensive snaps. Theoretically, he should occasionally contribute to pass protection as most safeties do. In any event, I'm mostly miffed with the coaches today. It's an acceptable loss (not expected though) given circumstances; but we should have come out after halftime and made it more competitive. Down 9-3, we should have had a better showing and certainly not a carbon copy of the first half. Regardless, bring on Atlanta!
12. If I ever...ever see you tank another play like you did today, I'm gonna cut your N**ts off and shove 'em down your f88$ing throat!
13. I agree with Nick. I, like so many on this board, live and die by this team on sundays. A small part of me died four times over. The overall "feeling" of that era is a great one; but the minute I think of anything "specific" regarding the superbowls my stomach turns.
14. I've been concerned regarding the possibility of Clement's leaving and it came to mind that we have one of the most ingenious playcallers in all of football already on staff. Sam Wyche knows the offense and has the skills to call the plays. That's about as seemless a transition as we could hope for should Clements leave
15. Kiper, if I recall, was chewing on the colts for drafting Alberts instead of (drumroll) ...Trent Dilfer. Even though the guy won a SB I'd hardly say Kiper's hypothetical decision to draft Dilfer would have won him kudos had he been Colts GM. Alberts just burned out due to shoulder injuries and made the pick a bust (?steroids anyone).
16. You gotta go with Schottenheimer. Team stunk, QB stunk and he had one foot out the door...now they're rolling to the playoffs and Brees has developed into this year's hottest free agent. Kudos to A.J. Smith (and John Butler...rest his soul ) as well for having a team that good with 20Mil under the cap. And yes, before you think I'm bashing TD, I think Donahoe is doing very well for the Bills.
17. Did anyone notice how Feeley "ran" to tackle Pat Williams after the interception? Granted, you could get "killed" in that situation if you tried a "textbook tackle"; but for a guy trying to win over a team and become a leader it was a weak effort. You have to at least run up to him and pretend to bounce off. Typical Dolphin.
18. I agree. Marv is everything a coach should be. What a motivator. The obvious example of pulling the Bills out of the psychological dungeon of 3 SB losses to lead them to a fourth is amazing. I can't say I think returing to the Bills would have been good (it's the "you can never go back thing..."). I do feel, however, that the guy can pretty much do whatever he wants (i.e. Cleveland if offered). I'll never buy the "game has passed him by" argument either. That's like saying Roethlisberger or McGahee or Mularky should't be given oportunities to play/coach because the "game is too far ahead of them." There are always exceptions to any rule...and Marv is certainly exceptional.
19. Well said. I was thrilled the day we hired Donahoe and still am pleased with the job he's done. Unfortunately, one of the biggest decisions he made (Gregg Williams) directly affected every personel move he made. I think his drafting and free agent signings have been excellent. No GM is perfect (how many friggin cornerbacks did John Butler draft in the 90s?) but Donahoe is one of the best in the game right now. He will wiff again on a pick or free agent...that's the nature of the business. More often, however, he'll do the right thing. Be glad he's here and quit bellyaching.
20. ..a third round pick would be good value in my mind if the Bills were going to trade him... Chris Mortensen said yesterday on 790 ESPN radio (Miami) that he felt it would take at least a 2nd to get Henry. I'm not saying I necessarily agree but it's what his opinion was. I do feel a 3rd for a guy with his resume is reasonable...and a 2nd would be a bonus. I'm shocked at all the Henry bashing here. The guy has done pretty well in Buffalo for a second rounder. I'm sure all of you would be whistling in the lockeroom considering the facts that he had back to back 1200 yard seasons and the team responded by drafting Willis. The bottom line is that McGahee is more complete but Travis is still a good player...not to mention cheap.
21. How about an all time roid team? Tony Mandarich and Brian Bosworth come to mind.
22. ...so did Peterson's attorney, ...so did Nixon,...so did OJ's dream team,...so did Enron,...so did blah, blah blah.
