Every year at least one team GETS it.

I agree it could be our year. ANYTHING is possible. The fact is that this team has HAD talent for several years now. When you think about "Club Jauron", the injuries, the lack of leadership, the predictable offense, the unimaginative defense -- and the team has STILL managed to hover near .500. Now you add intelligent coaching, a work ethic, some smart drafting and maybe this team accomplishes something. I always say that the mindset at the outset of EVERY season must be to win the Super Bowl. If that is not the goal, then don't even bother coming to work. Last year was last year. It just doesn't matter this year. This team can go far. Hopefully, they'll "learn to win" earlier in the season and not later and make a real run for the playoffs. -
I fully agree. It is becoming very clear that the past coaching staff was not very demanding (or knowledgeable). Whitner's comments are very telling in saying they've installed more defenses in two days than in all of last season. On the offensive side, it's nice to hear that plays will be used to setup other plays -- that different things will happen out of the same formation -- not always so in the past. Very much looking forward to this season. If nothing else, it should be far more exciting than previous years.

It's a long season. Players go down. Probably gonna need all 3 to make it through the year. I don't think any of the 3 will be leaving.

Love your post with one exception. The goal EVERY YEAR is to win the Super Bowl. If that's NOT the mentality, then there's just no point in competing. Realistic? Perhaps not, but that HAS to be the goal at the onset of EACH and EVERY season. That's what it's all about. That's why they play the games. Bring it on. Go Bills!!

Yes, after so many disappointments over the years, I really don't care how a guy looks on paper. Until a player PROVES his worth on the playing field, everything is pure speculation. I believe Carrington is certainly capable of becoming the dominant player we hope he will become based upon his physical attributes and his college career, but until that actually translates into proven success on an NFL playing field, it just doesn't matter. Having said that, I *do* believe that Carrington will prove to be a good pick, but we simply won't know for some time to come.

I see people are a bit concerned about Byrd's run-stopping abilities. I really don't care. The guy is a ball hawk. In my opinion, you really want your safety to be a ball hawk. Interceptions change the momentum of a game instantly and are so crucial. Seriously, if you're depending on your safety that heavily in the run stopping game, then something is wrong. I'm not saying you want a cupcake back there, but for cryin' out loud -- your defensive front and the line backers need to be the primary run stuffers. If Jarius just wants to hang back and ball hawk, that's perfectly fine with me if he maintains the same sort of production there as he did last year. I think he'll improve against the run anyhow -- that's just the kind of guy he is -- he'll put in the work to improve all areas of his game.
-
Agree. Great to see stuff like this. I also like that he could not care less about the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award -- he's totally focused on this coming season and does not care about personal accolades. Definitely the kind of guy you want on your team. And he's absolutely loaded with talent. Can't really ask for much more from a player.

Well, I don't see all the games, but I do try to listen on the Internet and I do follow the re-caps. Obviously, I've missed it. I only remember his fake pass on a field goal and a very nice fake run about 3-4 years ago. I just do not recall any other attempted fakes. But, I accept that I could be wrong here.
-
I have no idea why the Bills have not utilized his speed on fake punts now & then. I remember his speed the last time he faked a punt and it was incredible. What was that -- 4 freakin' years ago for cryin' out loud. Look, I get it that you can't fake a punt every game because opponents would be looking for it, but you think maybe 2-3 times per season with a guy like Moorman instead of once every five years!! Just another example of coaches not utilizing talent fully.

You are probably correct. My 50-60% estimate is certainly not scientific. I've just never seen so much negativism spew forth so consistently on this board. It probably just SEEMS like 50-60% of the fan base goes around calling players "retards", but it does get old.
-
You know, I've been a Bills fan for over 40 years now. I used to think Bills fans were overdue and deserving of having a championship come to the city. I no longer think this. Oh, there are many Bills fans who DO deserve to see the Bills win a Super Bowl, but a sorry majority on this board do not deserve to ever savor such a victory. Seems at least 50-60% of posters on this board thrive on ripping the organization and the players apart. Sure, some of the criticism is deserved, but to call a player a "retard" along with many of the other barbs that have been tossed out around here on a daily basis. It's sad.

Beerball brought up the point...

Oh, you must be very young, my friend. Edit: Here are some wonders of the past taken in 1st round by Buffalo (except Nelson who was 2nd): 1975 Tom Rudd, Bob Nelson 1977 Phil Dokes 1979 Tom Cousineau 1981 Booker Moore 1982 Perry Tuttle 1983 Tony Hunter 1990 James Williams 1992 John Fina (he was OK, but 1st round?) 1997 Antowain Smith 2000 Erik Flowers 2002 Mike Williams -
CJ Spiller to get about 12 carries per game

Since when is dumping the ball off to your safety valve because you cannot or will not try to get the ball to your receivers a "strength"? LOL -

Agree. Best player available at his position *and* a position of need for Buffalo -- especially given the ML situation. -
actual positive news from mort!
ChasBB replied to dwight in philly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or maybe the Bills are finally really better this year? Maybe Mort just calls them as he see them and doesn't have a thing against Buffalo. Let's face it, the team has sucked for 10 straight years and people get upset that Mort doesn't say nice things about Buffalo? -

Also, I don't consider 5'9" that close to 5'11". Their weights are the same, but that is not an insignificant height difference. Now, it may not make a huge difference, but it seems to me that if you're going to utilize your back a lot as a receiver, it's better to have a little bigger of a target and a little more reach. I don't know. I'm no expert, but I like the Spiller pick. -
I could be wrong, but my interpretation of events was that Buffalo just couldn't find any takers to trade up with or else they would have taken him. For whatever reason, they just didn't want him at 21.

+1 Gotta believe it's possible every season.

Guys, this starting front-five is a disaster

Guys, this starting front-five is a disaster

Well, first of all, it's only football, so I'm not "terrified". Secondly, I like our guys. The silver lining to all the injuries is that lots of guys got valuable playing time and nothing beats real game experience in the NFL. I think we're going to be OK. -
Our quarterbacks are plenty mobile enough right now. Not saying they are like Steve Young exactly, but they are not statues, either. They are adequate in the mobility department.
-
Yeah, I can just envision the conversation between Williams and Dockery right now: Dockery: "You know, we both became multi-millionaires at the expense of the Buffalo Bills and we didn't do **** for them. Isn't that funny?" Williams: "Yeah, how 'bout that".

Top 10 teams facing major stadium issues
ChasBB replied to Rob_not_Rian_Lindell's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not a single stadium is so bad a game cannot be played there, so I don't get the term "major stadium issues". Unless a stadium is literally falling down, then all issues are minor. We have a great stadium and don't f'ing let anyone tell us otherwise. We'll regain our old home field advantage like the early 90's!!
