There is no excuse for our defense allowing a nine minute, all running play drive.

Question I would love to ask Tom Donahoe..
KurtGodel77 replied to JoeF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've never liked the idea of firing a coach during the season, because the whole interim coach situation is a mess. There aren't very many people you can hire for interim head coach, because they all have commitments that last until the end of the season. Chances are your interim head coach will be a member of your staff. Moreover, he will have the same staff of assistant coaches your old head coach had. So you're putting him in a position to fail. -

Bluefire: "Liberal - Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded." Bluefire, I'm curious as to why you think liberals are tolerant of the ideas of others. It seems to me that most liberals--especially those who have risen to positions of power--are very intolerant of conservative ideas. Donald Kaul, for example, once wrote that we have nothing to hate except hate itself. In the same article, he referred to an ideological opponent as a "fat windbag." A U.S. News and World Report study showed that at most leading U.S. universities, 90 - 95% of professors belong to the Democratic or other left-leaning political parties, at least in subjects where a professor's political opinions might make a difference to how the class was taught (history, English, etc.). In Nazi Germany, a German official made critical remarks about Crystal Night at a social gathering. Crystal Night was a night in which Jewish temples and places of business were vandalized by the German people. The German official's criticism of this act could be seen as sticking up for the Jews. Hitler called this man into his office to chew him out, but otherwise left him unpunished. In contrast, Trent Lott made a joke about how the country would have been better off had Strom Thurmond been elected president. The Democrats responded by calling for his removal from the Senate. In other words, elected Democrat officials proved more intolerant of Racially Incorrect Speech than did Adolf Hitler. -
If You were at the Greatest Comeback Game

I listened to that game on the radio, but I'd never seen any of it on T.V. until last night. I saw a few highlights, including a play where Don Beebe got wide open after a Houston defensive back bit on his fake. The defensive back's name? Jerry Gray!!! -
Spikes is the best player on this team!

If Moulds is so great at drawing the attention of the defense, why did we keep seeing 8 - 9 guys in the box every time we handed the ball to McGahee? Our passing game isn't feared that much, which means Moulds isn't feared. Do you think a defense would put 8 - 9 guys in the box with Randy Moss on the field? -

McGahee not speaking to local media
KurtGodel77 replied to DPR4444's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe Ricky Williams has taken McGahee under his wing. "First, stop speaking to the media. Next, learn the joys of smoking pot. Give up millions of dollars if you have to, but keep smoking pot. Grow a wild beard, and travel to "somewhere in Asia." Shock the football world by retiring before the fantasy drafts (but after the real draft). Appear on a television documentary so that others can learn why you did all this, and so they can follow your example. -
I called them jerks because I was annoyed with them. You are probably right. I'm beginning to think Green Bay is overrated; a team that uses Brett Favre's strength of will to mask its lack of talent.
-
It seemed to me that Cinncinatti had 8 - 9 men in the box for most of the game to stop the run. McGahee would look inside, and there'd be no hole. He'd break the ball to the outside, and there would be 2 - 3 unblocked Cincinnnati defenders there to greet him at or behind the line of scrimmage. With that many men in the box, our passing game should have destroyed their defense. It didn't. I'm not sure whether to blame it on the receivers, the TEs, or the QB. But the line itself seemed to give Drew good time most of the day.

The problem with keeping TH here next year as a backup is that it's a quick fix. TH only has one year left on his contract, and there's no way he's extending with Buffalo. We have to solve the backup running back problem a year from now anyway. We may as well solve it a year early and get a draft pick for Travis for having done so. -
Those jerks won in Green Bay. If they win their remaining two games (vs. Houston and at Oakland) they'll be 10-6 with a tiebreaker over us. Even though we got help from Denver and Baltimore, we needed Jacksonville to lose yesterday.

Great game, love this team
KurtGodel77 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This offensive line didn't run-block until the fourth quarter. It did a reasonable job of pass protecting most of the time. Clearly it needs to be upgraded in the off-season. While it's tempting to go out and sign free agents, keep these factors in mind: 1) teams generally hold onto their good offensive linemen, so there may not be that many to go after, 2) We will be over the cap as it is, so our ability to add to the team via free agency will be limited at best, 3) Jim McNally is known for his ability to get rookies ready to play in a hurry. The offense can't take control of a game unless the offensive line takes control. I say we use our 2nd and 3rd round picks on linemen, and make resigning Jennings a higher priority than keeping Moulds. -
You mean to say that no one has ever craashed a car while under the influence of marijuana? You mean to say that no one who's ever smoked pot has ever developed lung cancer? While these things are theoretically possible, a more reasonable explanation of the zero deaths figure is that the US Census Bureau isn't keeping track of marijuana-related deaths.
-
According to the website http://www.haciendapub.com/edcor12.html there are 776 deaths each year from accidental shootings. That seems a lot more realistic than the 100,000 figure.

Travis plays (played) with a lot of passion; and he had good straight-ahead running ability. But that's all he brought to the table. He's not a complete back like Marshall Faulk, and he's not big enough to be a truly punishing back like Jerome Bettis was in his prime. This said, the guy's got to be worth something in a trade. We really should have taken Miami up on their offer of a first round draft pick in exchange for him. Too late now.

I'm Preparing My Draft Bowl List
KurtGodel77 replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just feel Vincent might be a good player we can't afford. It would almost be impossible for TD to bring back this year's roster for next year, so someone has to go. Will it be Jennings? Will it be Moulds? Will it be someone else? I'm not sure, but I just think the loss of Vincent would be less painful than one of those other losses. -
If you're not arguing about the validity of religion, then exactly what is it you ARE doing?

KurtGodel77 replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The draft and the salary cap/free agency go hand-in-hand. From what I've read on these boards, next year we'll be over the salary cap. That's with Jonas Jennings becoming a free agent. We have several options for freeing up cap room: 1. Eric Moulds. This guy can still play, but he's scheduled to count $8 million against next year's cap. That's ridiculous, and something needs to be done. 2. Drew Bledsoe. He will count $6.5 million against the cap if he stays, $4 million if he goes. But if he continues playing as well as he has these last few weeks, it will be hard to ask him to take another paycut; or to start unproven Losman. 3. Mike Williams. At the beginning of the year, Mike Williams was considered an obvious choice for a paycut or a roster removal, especially since his salary is going to be a lot higher in 2005. But with the way McNally has that man playing, it would be really hard to cut him or ask him to take a paycut. 4. Other. There's got to be someone on this team who's overpaid for what he's producing. Probably signing Troy Vincent was a mistake, because we can get by with McGee and Clements at corner, Milloy and Baker at safety. It would be nice to have Vincent's cap space back. But because we've already paid him his bonus, next year would be too early to get rid of him. Let's say that TD decides to solve his cap problems by showing Eric Moulds and his $8 million cap figure the door. We would really need a possession receiver, and Sam Aiken may not be good enough to fill that role. -
