When Poloncarz says "we" have to decide it brings up some interesting things.

First. that "we" is merely tokenism democracy and the reality is, both based on who got to see this draft before it was released, and the fact that developers (see: donors) and the Visit Buffalo Niagara tourism rely on and have input into this decision, means there is not decision. It's been made and Poloncarz and other political and business insiders have already made a decision on this, which is "yes" build it to support and double down on corporate welfare handouts to Paladino, Zemsky, Sinatra, Ciminell, Musk etc. so we as taxpayers and further ensure they make profit.

Second, if "we" as a community decide (not sure how this happens since there's not vote and no transparency in decision making) that this is a good idea, then WE are part of the problem in WNY for believing these type of projects have any benefit for the average person. Think about what a convention center is. It's a place for visitors to come and attend some conference, rent a hotel room, and consume in bars and restaurants. All that funnels money to... the same entities who bars, restaurants, and hotels we as taxpayers have already supported through some form of subsidy or outright gift. Politicians argue it benefits the region through job creation, both a convention center and the hospitality industry it serves. But in reality, we're subsidizing and supporting low wage service jobs that should be for teenagers and college kids and instead end up being careers for some because this economy is low functioning for high quality knowledge economy workers because we continue to focus on these bad projects. So who wins? Developers and politicians who continue their quid pro quo relationship whereby politicians funnel money and profit to them in exchange for campaign donations to keep them in office. So if we want this region to change, let's get away from these stupid silver bullet projects and get to meaningful change.

Third, a convention center is really a dumb idea. How does Buffalo compete from November to April for conventions with Atlanta, Tampa, Austin, LA, Charlotte, Miami, New Orleans, etc. Or even Chicago or Minneapolis or NYC or Boston if someone wants to hold a convention in the northern cities. We don't, that's how. Just an absolute garbage idea. And I don't care what a consultant paid to investigate the feasibility of a convention center says when they know they're being hired to tell politicians it's a good idea.

Lastly, I suspect a connection between this and a Bills stadium in some way. A multiple purpose "district" is an easier sell (not that Poloncarz or anyone will sell it, they'll jam it down our throats) when you move from a stadium for 10 days a year to a stadium plus a convention center for 25 days a year. If I were these politicians, I'd triple down. A stadium that is for the Bills and UB and the convention center. UB's stadium sucks and state money funneled to the Bills through UB is easier all around sell. Although I suspect most Bills fans are OK with handing a billionaire their tax money to ensure his profit, but this STH isn't.

Both properties owned by one person, Mark Croce. Same guy who cried poor to the city and got a million $ for work on the outside of the Statlet while at the same time was building a 1/2 million$ in south towns.  We already have a new convention building, it's called the Tesla building!

  2. During pre production meetings I made sure the video crew knew about the TBDAHOT. When the camera guy arrived the first thing I did was lead him thru the tailgate. First impressions work!

    Did you see merriman???

Got to meet Shawne, I know people. As I was ushering/security him to the Lee Evans party in the Lot, he stopped for each and every person on our escape route that wanted a moment of his time. Nice Guy but one I would not want to get mad!

Great party. Parked next to Bob Lamb and we had a good convo. Was great seeing PLenz, Cletus, Augie, Heintz, FlutieFlakes, mead, Mrags, justjack, mrs just jack, Boyst and his trophy, Levi, Rockpile, Rich, Guffalo, and so many others. Hammer was too busy to socialize with us commoners, but hey...he runs the asylum.

I did but not with YOU!!

  5. I hope everyone had a good time. it was nice to see Bob Lamb at the tailgate who helped in the creation of TBDAHOT. After a long run Jack, Thank You for your efforts running the past tailgates, turn over the reins to Jay. Good job Jay. I saw many familiar faces and some new faces.  Sorry about Heitz and his annoying crew but I think when Aaron Williams  came over and sang a couple of songs with them, all might be forgiven. On a side note long time Hammers Lot tailgater Lee Evans, and newbies  Stevie Johnson. Shawne Merrimann were in the Lot. Very nice respectful guys. At the end of the day, our team needs a lot of work. tailgating we got it down!!!

Once again (19th time) Hammers Lot is hosting the gathering of TBD lowlifes for a day of food, friendship, & general frolicking at the TBDAHOT.       Parking choices... If you would like "Party" area (circle the wagon style-very limited space) or "General" spot (s) please post 1Party or 1General. Party area parking starts at 6:30 am, spots held till 7:30am, General starts at 7am held till 8:30am. Most Importantly you MUST have a large easy to see sign with TBD P or TBD G on it. This makes it easier for us to take care of your parking needs. Also please tell us your name so we can check it off the list. Parking list closes at 9-14-18 6 pm Hammer Time. On a side note, a former Bill will be part of a crew filming a tailgate based program. If your wanted, or skipping work you might be on camera... ??

Per Meads count ( I've been working my tail off) 21 party 13 general. Looks like ALL who wanted Party will get it as long as they arrive by 7:30am. Sharp

This Sunday won't be my first visit to see my beloved Bills in Orchard Park but I have never been to Hammer's lot and have always wanted to check out Pinto Ron's set-up, how he cooks up delicious food in old Ford Pinto mufflers, etc. I've also heard that Pancho Billa will be there for the home opener. I have always parked on Abbot road on the lawn of a private residence. Where exactly is the Hammer lot? Thanks in advance for your help guys.

    Where did you park precisely.

Mrs. Lew and I might get this pooch who has set up shop at my daughter's rented house.

    (No pets per landlord)

We have 2 old cats and an old dog.

I wanted to end the pet thing but the boss has other ideas.

Do it. After our friend Buddy past last year, we fostered a Springer Spaniel. Darn thing could jump as high as my shoulders. Too much energy for us. A family came from Michigan who adopted him. All is good as we are still in contact with them. Our next foster, Allie was our next foster. Black Lab/ Boxer. We adopted her. Separation issue but knows her commands and does them. Lover but a protector.  We call her him (Buddy, had to break that habit). She experienced her first Bills game with me yelling. Got agitated. 3 qtr. we went for a walk. Pooped at OBD

I can now say Aaron Williams is the former Bill who will be shooting a tailgate show based in Hammers Lot. Other tailgating lots will also be included.

So, I have been thinking of doing this for a while now. Thought it might be nice if we can pin a thread with a document that gives some nice high-level information on places to stay/ eat/see/do for the folks that come to TBD and ask the "first time to a game." questions. I have put my ideas/ experiences when it comes to hotels and things to do and incorporated the awesome doc @Rubes put together a couple years ago for the Classic Food Tour of WNY.

I am no genius on google docs and only lightly edited/formatted this doc. Someone better at that than me help appreciated!

I  will post a link that everyone can edit/add/clean up/post maps etc ( have no clue how Rubes did that) . For instance, I have always tailgated either in ECC or Hammers as that side of the stadium is easiest for me to get to...so would love input on tailgate places on 20A and California etc.

Let me see if this works..and if this is worthless..let me know that as well.

Bills game info what is YouHammers Lot? Should be Hammers Lot. No address on link 4170 Abbott Road Orchard Park Ny14127. Disagree on tight comment. Never heard a complaint on damaged car doors. The problem is every year people are bring more stuff. Everything except the kitchen sink. Also this year I did a major improvement on part of the lot.  Removed topsoil, installed road fabric and covered fabric with crushed concrete and sand binder. I will never be confused with the Mud Lot. The lots on 20a are ok when the ground is hard but when the rain comes...

You must wear a hearing aid as your hearing s is obviously off

On the GPS stuff, be careful. Hopefully Mead sent you a map. If coming from any direction other than South of the stadium, most GPS will send you Southweatwen  to Abbot, and right into Hammers   Problem  is Abbot is closed is front off stadium on games days. You have to access Abbot via Big Tree and take a left into Hammers.

Also just a heads up.. if you are coming from downtown or Grand Island or the Falls, GPS will send you 190 to 90... don’t do it. Take 190 to 5( skyway)... to 179 Mileateip to McKinley to Soutweatwrn/ Big tree.

Most GPS WILL not factor in game day traffic. Trust me on this one.

    Abbott not Abbot
