  1. I remember Joe Dufek wearing #19 ... not to major on the minutia ...
  2. yeah, it was 99 yesterday in PA too. And I'm out back of my house building a 14x30 deck 8 feet above the ground ....
  3. In our area (NW PA), the teams are assembled somewhat randomly, but they stay together as much as they can through the different levels. I watched one game this year (9-12 year olds) and the final score was something like 23-1. I asked about this because the winning team had a lot of big kids and the losing team had mostly 9 year olds. I was told this was done intentionally -- that in two years, the team that lost 23-1 would probably win the championship after staying together and growing together. Essentially, every kid starts off on a young team that is prone to lose, but ends up on a team that has a very good chance of winning -- if they don't quit.
  4. I'm actually kinda hoping that the imagery and allegory of the story is deep enough that the execs at Disney don't even realize that they just told the story of Christ.
  5. I had my doubts about them doing all 7, but the trailer erased those doubts. They are planning on it based on how the movie is being marketed: The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The L, W, & W is actually a subtitle. It is being marketed as the first installment of the the Chronicles.
  6. Watch the PBS version, not the recent one with Anthony Hopkins -- great actor, but the story isn't quite as powerful.
  7. IIRC, Nicole Kidman was originally cast as the White Witch ... wonder what happened?
  8. as one who was in Chicago for Harry Carey's last season, and now in Pittsburgh for Cope's swan song, I say they both ended their careers too late. Both of them were exhausting and annoying to listen to. Cope, just cuz of his voice, and Carey cuz he was drunk most of the time.
  9. Think of it this way, ... by straight odds, there should be less than 2 players per team on the list, some will have 2, some will have 1 -- again, understanding 32 teams and 50 spots. Takeo that low? Probably not, there are a bunch that he should be listed above. Of course, there are probably some that didn't make the list that should be above TS. It's a subjective list and it shows that a team full of "great players" (Ravens) don't necessarily do great things.
  10. I think we're missing the obvious question: Why do fourth grade sports teams need cheerleaders? Anyone?
  11. Cinci, Balt, and Cleveland all have to play Pittsburgh twice -- a team that had a better record than the Patsies. Only Baltimore is in the top 7 -- at #6. AFCEast is the toughest division and has been most of the time over the last couple of decades.
  12. right ... cuz ... Manning lost the games, just like Bledsoe, and RJ, and ... I don't disagree with the point that Brady should be higher than Manning, but saying that he can't be #1 until he has a SB ring? Sorry, Brady is a top notch player (as much as I hate to say that), but he did not win the SB by himself or with himself as the top player, no matter what the popularity contest that is the MVP award says.
  13. Even before then IIRC, the only reason to abide by the national speed limit was to receive federal funding. If a state wanted to go to 65, they forfeited the funding. BUT it was legal for them to do so. Again, I may be mistaken, but that was my understanding.
  14. precisely, well put AD
  15. definitely start with the originals ... Darth Vader saying that he is Luke's father will be boring and anticlimatic if you've seen the prequels
  16. BZZZZTT, thank you for playing.
  17. Nope, don't usually make it to Rachacha. My parents live in Amherst so that is usually the destination. And we probably won't make it for training camp this year. It just makes me appreciate the time we had last summer ...
  18. So that they look like drunk, color blind Viking fans?
  19. The numbers of casualties from other countries is astounding. IIRC, the US has only lost 1.3 million troops in battle. Period. All wars in 200+ years. The vast majority were in the Civil War -- as it was one of the few fought on or adjacent to our turf. 20+ million Russians? Either we know how to fight, or we know how to pick our battles. Human life is precious. This is definitely a distinctive of our country.
  20. not all bald men want hair
  21. The Steelers? They ripped their logo off of the US Steel industry ... I know the name is connected, but cool logo? Any logo that contains all three primary colors should be outlawed. Most art students know that, kinda like most music students follow proper music theory in writing music ... I guess the composers of the 20th century missed that memo, just like the early US Steel industry.
  22. I thank God everytime that I remember the men who were so valiant on the fields that day (week, month ...) On a lighter note ... Did you notice he sought the blessing of God? Where was the ACLU to get him fired. Doesn't he know that he's mixing church & state ... Just shows how things have changed in this day.
  23. OK, using that logic, my son's little league team are champs cuz they won their six team league in a small town in PA. As opposed to the year that they went to the state tourney and came in second -- I don't think the two even compare. Second in the state tourney is better than winning your six team league without a state tourney.
  24. I remember 1984-1986 way too well to think that white helmets = bad play we introduced the reds to Buffalo the same year we went 2-14, IIRC
  25. I had a friend who had undiagnosed twins at the top NeoNatal hospital in Chicago. Had an ultrasound two weeks before a planned CSection. They were ready to sew her back up when another hand popped out. It happens from time to time.
