Live 2024 NFL Draft thread - Rounds 2 & 3 (Do NOT tip the Bills pick)
Ralonzo replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hoping like hell you're right. I was extremely wrong about Bernard, I had him as Kelvin Sheppard II except without the size. And what's more his first year validated me, a step too slow, a size too small, every time. Year 2, he goes off. I didn't see it coming. After so many spins around the sun I know there's vastly more things I don't know than things I know, but the things I know are still a burr in the saddle. -

1) Booker at 95, or Hunt after small trade up from 95. Young guys to develop into that top-end while insulated in a rotational scheme. B) Then you take Rakestraw at 60 instead of Bishop since it's a premium position and look for Hicks or Mustapha or Taylor-Demerson or Hampton or {insert here} R4. Or maybe Bishop is still there lol. iii) Still think Anderson will play C with McFreeagent at LG. It'll be the Bills best 5. Beane had the chance to fill exactly the holes you pointed out, and did not. That DT is a process-reach and i think that should be a term going forward. -

And sometimes you don't: McCaffrey was my crush for 128, and what just sent me over the edge tonight was seeing him go at 100 after a pick I just hated. I see him as someone who can win at all levels, inside or outside, speed and shift and physicality and he goes to effing Harblaugh and the Stupor Chargers 5 picks after Beane takes Captain Intangibles with a premium Day 2 pick. -

I want to believe that but ultimately you can't just yell "process!" at your opponent and win, you have to kick their ass and defeat them. I want the Bills drafting guys who do that - within the framework of an 11-man rolling ball of anarchy. When guys like that go to the enemy while the football equivalent of [political analogy redacted] get drafted to my fanatically supported team, I'm gonna rage. -

We're mutants on a ***** NFL message board at midnight on a Friday night in April. Who lives this ***** more than us? -
There's still Mustapha, Taylor-Demerson, Oladapo et al. I want Beane to be right on Bishop, of course. That everyone else flames out and he's the only stud. It's just still, on draft day, taking a S or LB or RB in the middle of round 2 is like taking a T or EDGE or WR in the middle of round 1. You damn well better be getting a star, a difference maker, and then it's justified.

Cribbing from the other thread: I'm not gonna be reasonable anymore. For a guy who talks about getting more explosive Beane gets: - a plodding big slot WR - an overdraft at a devalued position - a no-traits defensive lineman to backup your best D player That looks like a fail for an in-window reset. Minimal upside, and a failure to add the very thing you talked about adding to the roster - explosiveness. This isn't about Franklin, this is about traits and value positions. I wouldn't have drafted anyone Beane did in the places he drafted them. Hopefully the fact that he gets paid millions of dollars to do this ***** means he'll be more correct, but I. Just. Hate. This. Day 2. -
Jaden Hicks still on the board makes me wonder how much of a reach this was.

That's the thing, he's not playing behind DQ. McKinnley Jackson taken 2 picks later would play behind DQ. This guy plays behind Ed. Strict 3T in college. His upside is... hm. I dunno. Who's the most adequate 3T who you really would like to replace but he mostly doesn't get killed every down so you're ok with filling other needs first. Rounds 2 and 3, you want guys that are: 1) premium position, -AND- 2) top-tier starter upside. What did the Bills do? 2-33) Keon Coleman, premium position, questionable upside. 2-60) Cole Bishop, non-premium position, better-than-average upside. 3-95) DeWayne Carter, average position, questionable upside. This Day 2 looks bad to me in toto.

I'm just going over this again and I don't get the value here. Especially with Booker on the board if you are ok with a part-timer for your 3rd round pick, at least take one with some friggin upside. This reads a lot like Boogie 2: Electric Boogaloo.

100% Process pick. Not sure where he fits apart from 3T, but it is an area of need, though not as dire nor as great a value fit as EDGE imo. Beast take: This is a reach with a 4th/5th round grade. SUMMARY: A three-year starter at Duke, Carter was a three-technique defensive tackle in former head coach Mike Elko’s 4-2-5 base scheme (also saw snaps on the edge). He became the first three-time team captain in Blue Devils history, although his senior season production fell short of what he put on film as a sophomore and junior. Carter needs to keep adding moves to his rush attack, but he generates power from his get-off and transfers it to his hands to create initial movement in his pass rush. He displays similar play strength, effort and ball-tracking versus the run, although he will need to be more efficient as a block shedder to be a relevant run defender at the line of scrimmage in the NFL. Overall, Carter doesn’t have a true difference-making trait on the field, but he is smart, strong and very active. He might never be a full-time starter, but he will give a team value as a rotational three-technique (even fronts) or five-technique (odd fronts).

Jalyx Hunt is kind of the Luke McCaffrey of EDGE. Late position change in his college career, and an ascending guy as he grows his breadth of experience. HERE WE GO -

Fine with Rice or Baker instead. One pick to go. Tampa, Franklin, Dorlus and Booker are best value-need matches for Bills by Beast ranking. -

This makes me wonder about them looking at Myles Cole in the 5th. He's basically Groot II measurement-wise. -

That's why the league wants to keep the com formula a hoodoo stew of bat wings and eye of newt, for plausible deniability when the eff over small market teams. Although somehow the Bengals complained and got it reverted after the fact. ***** them. -

Love the value match at #95. I've been grabbing him in mocks because he is so young and needs to come into a rotational system as he develops. -

It's how Baltimore always seemed to had the one hole on their team be exactly where someone fell in the draft for no reason right to them under Ozzie Newsome. ***** infuriating. -
