Interesting article on the 2002 draft and how bad
ACor58 replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have to wonder how much input Cowher had when drafting players, which could have led to their falling out. Cowher is essentially the GM / Coach now and has continued to produce strong drafts for Pitt. -
I just spit out my coffee, thanks.

He says that he is excited but you know that in the back of his mind he is saying "Oh sh--, why couldn't the Bills have released Moulds." On a side note, did anyone see Drew Rosenhaus on Sportscenter yesterday. I know this is nothing new, but he just reminded me that he is one of the 10 biggest douchebags on the planet.

I believe that Ralph said he was still in charge of scouting, and needed more of a presence at One Bills Drive. He currently resides in Jacksonville and commutes here.

Was Marv just wasting time with these RFA's?

I figured as much . I am with you and hope that reports are wrong. -
Nall has to be so excited that he signed last night and it took less than 12 hours for a Bills fan to post pictures of his hot wife. Nice work SDS.

Lenny P Tip sheet. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor...ht&lid=tab5pos1 Pretty interesting, as the draft was filled with a lot of "mistakes" that year. -

It wasn't right below it when I started it. Sorry, -

You know that I am not saying that. Like I said, maybe the Front Office didn't see enough upside in either of these guys, which is fine, then don't pay them. All I am saying is that it seemed like a half-@ss attempt to sign either. -

Before some of you jump on this post and say..."The Cardinals / Bears haven't matached yet" hear me out. I am not advocating that we overpay for players, unless the front office sees a tremendous amount of upside in any potential player. However, that last two attempts to sign RFAs seem like all we did was do these two guys a favor, since neither had been reported to go on any other FA visits. It was widely known that the Cardinals were going to match any reasonable offer that they Bills made for Wells and reports out of Chicago indicated the same for Idonije. The deals that Marv and Co. put together were nothing more than market value, with relatively low signing bonuses, and probably didn't do much to prevent their prospective teams from matching. So if that is the case, why bother doing it? Are they trying to send a message to the fans saying "Hey look at us, we are active in FA." Maybe the front office didn't see much potential in these guys, I don't know. But if you are going to make an effort to sign these guys go ahead and make a strong effort. Don't just dick around and pretend like you are trying to sign these guys. I hope that I am wrong amd we sign both, but the reports out of Phoenix and Chicago have both teams leaning towards matching. -
I am glad to have him back. He made as many key plays as mistakes. We could do worse.

I think that the $1.668 was the Skins Cap savings by trading him, though I will check. Actually, I think that his salary is only $1,194M this season. See below: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2341755

He started all 16 games last year and NE Offensive Line is one of the best.

If only we never traded to draft JP...

I think that we all do. -

Again, you are putting words in my mouth. I never said that the entire team was ruined. I am saying that in my opinion we would have been better off not trading the picks to draft him. -
I agree with you. I think that it is Preston's job to lose at Center. We could have brought Teague back to play Tackle. He was a tackle in Denver and that is what we brought him here for before we drafted fat Mike.

We didn't have a pick when Sanders was around. Besides, most on this board were pulling for Grove, who was very solid last year until he hurt his knee. Don't you remember the Raiders running all over the Bills that game, especially inside? -

Where did anyone call JP a bust? Look at my posts, I have said that it is too early to judge him. What I am simply stating is that the draft picks we used to get him could have landed us a number of quality players. Oh wait, 1bf says those guys haven't done squat in the NFL. nm. -

Haven't done Squat???? You apparently haven't seen Castillio tearing it up for San Diego? Jake Grove is staring at Center for the Raiders and Bob Sanders made the Pro Bowl. Don't call me out unless you know what the heck you are talking about. -

Schaub was the Avatar around draft time in 04 baby, I am pulling for Kool Aid man this year to play tackle. (OH YEAH!) I know that you can analyze any teams draft after it is happened, that is why I said hindsight is 20/20. I never said that Schaub is going to be NFL MVP, but he is a solid player. What I am saying is that for the price we paid for JP we could have had two other solid players and still had Shaub. The state we are in now we are more than just one JP away from being sucessful. -
A lot of us were pulling for the Bills to take a QB late and some of us had even pulled for Schaub. (I changed my Avatar to Schaub). Had we not traded with Dalls for JP we could have had : Jake Grove or Bob Sanders in the 2nd round of the 2004 Draft. Matt Schaub in the 3rd Round (Instead of Tim Ander-suck) In 2005 Could have taken Chris Spencer to play Center (If we didn't have draft Grove) or have been able to jump ahead and grab Alex Barron to play tackle or we could have taken Luis Castillo to play DT. I know that hindsight is 20/20 but this team would be in a lot better shape. This trade and pick could have set us back a few years. Thanks Tom.
