MSNBC's low ratings explained
SilverNRed replied to SilverNRed's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yes, Chris, because Islamic terrorism wasn't a problem before the intervention in Iraq. The amazing thing about people who make that argument is that they claim there is no reason to go to Iraq in the post-9/11 world (no matter what reasons you provide) *and* that people who are not Iraqi and most likely have never been to Iraq are acting out because of the coalition forces in Iraq. So apparently there's nothing wrong at the core - culturally, religously, or mentally - with people who are capable of commiting mass murder when spurred to do so by military action in a country they are not from and have not ever been to (unless of course it turns out the London bombings were done by Baath party members who fled Iraq). Yes, of course, these were totally normal, peace-loving individuals until eeeeeeeeeeeevil George Bush invaded Iraq (for oil, even though it keeps getting more expensive). And why doesn't Timmy Commerford just come out and say he thinks Rove was behind this? You know he wanted to. -

MSNBC's low ratings explained
SilverNRed replied to SilverNRed's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Didn't Tucker Carlson's show just start? As for Scarborough Country, isn't its lead-in Keith "Amateur Hour" Olberman? And Lardball with Chris Matthews before that? MSNBC's reputation is so bad I imagine most people don't give it a chance. -
July Movies: F4, Chocolate Factory, & sleeper hits
SilverNRed replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know that wasn't in any of the movies - was that in one of the novelizations or comics? That's a pretty solid quote.... -
If CNN, FOX, and MSNBC are all after the same basic target audience, MSNBC has been finishing in dead last since its inception. It's possible the reason for this is that they give a dimwit like Ron Reagan his own show where he gets absolutely demolished in a debate by his guest, Christopher Hitchens, who wonders aloud why he even has a show. VIDEO Verbal beatdowns on national TV don't get much worse than this. There is something magical about someone so full of himself getting ripped to shreds on his own TV show. All of Ron Reagan's knowledge of terrorist connections to Iraq prior to 2003 apparently came from a summary of an Associated Press article about the 9/11 commission that he skimmed through a few months ago. And, no Ron, the sarcasm wasn't helping....

July Movies: F4, Chocolate Factory, & sleeper hits
SilverNRed replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I had to sit through that trailer before Star Wars and Batman Begins. The second time I was more interested in watching the second-hand on my watch go around than watching that horrible trailer. Let me get this straight, a stealth fighter piloted by a robot gets struck by lightning and then decides to take over the world? And apparently has enough ammunition to do so? And fuel? Even if lightning could make machines come alive and act evil, the evil stealth fighter threat would probably be over once the stupid thing ran out of gas and fell into the ocean. Seriously, if they're going to make a movie about a stealth fighter that makes absolutely no sense, have it be piloted by a super-intelligent tyranosaurus rex from another dimension. And have it fight Satan who, in a bid to take over the world, stole a top secret prototype fighter from Russia. Then throw some time travel and Dakota Fanning in for good measure. Danny Devito can be the voice of the T-Rex. -
Oliver Stone to direct 9/11 movie
SilverNRed replied to SilverNRed's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
My guess is Stone claims the CIA was behind 9/11 and the entire attack was designed to kill one person working in the WTC who had knowledge that could prove the moon landings were all faked and that Fidel Castro received more votes in the 2000 election than either Bush or Gore. Oh, and one or two historical figures will turn out to be bisexual. -

In other words, the best movie to see in July is still Batman Begins (even though it came out June 15). -
Link Sounds like a good movie if he plays it straight.... But Stone is pretty famous for being a conspiracy theorist. Should be interesting.

He deserves a pass for the funny new avatar.

How long will it be before.......
SilverNRed replied to Rich in Ohio's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I already read one bonehead on the internet claim that this bombing was intended to take attention away from Karl Rove because the Valerie Plame story was heating up..... It might've been Walter Cronkite. -
May there always be an England
SilverNRed replied to beausox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I wouldn't advise him to hold his breath. I'll stand by what I said. Livingstone has gone the anti-semitic route numerous times and has sub-sequently had to "clarify" what he really meant to say. If he was as harsh to blacks or homosexuals, I imagine his reputation would suffer but anti-semitism is pretty hip in Europe these days (isn't Israel the "real" cause to all the problems in the Middle East?) so he gets a pass. Google it if you want. And, yeah Ken, those pesky Jew reporters *are* just like concentration camp guards...... -

SilverNRed replied to beausox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You guys obviously aren't that familiar with "Red Ken" Livingstone. He's an anti-semitic dirtbag who has stood against the GWOT from day one. Convenient that he picks today to channel Winston Churchill. -

I meant to say Washington Post. I appreciate the rest of your thoughts even if I'm not going to agree.

Sen. Byrd is a Democrat.

Fox *is* part of the mainstream media and so if the Wall Street Journal, but they are basically the only two representatives, in TV and print respectively, for conservatives in the mainstream. The rest that you named are columnists, bloggers, and radio hosts - all of whom are easy to miss if you aren't looking for them. The establishment - almost every TV news outlet as well as NYT, Boston Globe, Washington Times, LA Times, etc. - is firmly liberal. Also omitted: any and all stories about progress/success RE: the GWOT. You have to go out of your way to find that information (or be lucky enough to know someone like BiB). And I'd rather have the occasional non- or soft-story than the trumped up, fake news items that I mentioned (timed to affect U.S. elections, of course).
-
Thanks for making my point. There's one conservative outlet - FoxNews - and that's where most of the names on your list appear. So if you have one conservative news outlet to compete with CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN Headline News, etc. and the country is just about evenly split between left and right, then yes the one outlet for half the country is going to have higher ratings than the split up ratings for the many outlets that serve the other half. What is the equivalent to: Dan Rather's fake document bonanza a month before the election. The New York Times' trumped up "missing explosives" story a week before the election. (A self-proclaimed major story right up until they dropped it as soon as Bush was re-elected) Newsweek's imaginary desecrated Koran nonsense EDIT: Here's something hilarious. The New York Times put Abu Ghraib on the front page 32 days in a row in 2004. The story wasn't nearly relevant enough to be on the front page 32 days in a row. Link. They couldn't take one of those 32 days to have a front page article to put the whole situation in Iraq and the Middle East in perspective they way BiB does around here with ease each day? Hmmm...
-
I put it in parantheses because it was a side note, not the tip of the spear for my 'proof.' Whatever, though.... By comparison, everyone knows Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite and isn't terrible familiar with Andrew Sullivan and Sean Hannity. You have to go out of your way to pay attention to the latter pair.

I think the fact that you can name all of the conservative voices in the media (and the average American has no idea who those people are) is proof that it's dominated by liberals. Find one other profession where 90% of the people vote Democrat. You can't get 90% of the people in this country to agree on anything, but you can get 90% of reporters to agree on that.
