  1. I think there should be payouts to families of those killed or injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. Victims of 9/11 are just that - victims - but the people who enlisted in the armed forces and lost their lives defending our country are heroes. The disparity between what a 9/11 family gets and what a military family gets is disgusting.
  2. No way! Don't you actually have to perform stand-up and be funny to have that title? If she's a stand-up comic, then so am I. We've had the same number of HBO specials in the past 10 years.
  3. Just because she's a Senator, that doesn't mean she has to understand how our government works.
  4. Think he's making of fun of Janeane Garafolo's crazy rants on TV over the past two years. I remember her saying 500K were going to die right before the war started. She supported sanctions, but no word on if she'd read anything UNICEF had to say about them. (my guess: no.)
  5. UNICEF said about a million deaths under Saddam's rule since 1991 with up to half being children. You'd think the Oil-for-Food program would've helped but that bastion of honesty - the UN - just couldn't pull it off. Link
  6. Almost 26,000 dead according to iraqbodycount.com. Link
  7. I could care less what Hillary Clinton says about Bush (and comparing him to the mascot for Mad magazine isn't a big deal) but I thought this was a really funny part of the article. CNN.com link I'm glad Hillary gearing up for a "possible White House presidential big in 2008" is doing so by rehashing so same tired anti-Bush talking points that helped Kerry lose pretty bad less than a year ago. Oh, Hillary, has there ever been an original or relevant thought in that head of yours?
  8. ...and babies and rainbows..... BTW, if OBL lives another 30 years I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually gets the "Castro" treatment, or worse yet the "Arafat" treatment, and he's eventually looked on as an important and influential "leader" who brought about global change in the early 21st century. [/mainstream media whitewashing of murderous thug]
  9. I never suggested that we give him a pass but I'm still not clear what was public knowledge about this woman and what was not prior to the "outing." If everything KR said to Cooper was public knowledge, then who cares? If it wasn't, then that's a problem.
  10. Nor do I. I can't help but think there's a lot more to this story than just "Rove gave up undercover CIA agent's identity because he was mad at her husband."
  11. I think it does matter how many names. If this wasn't a secret in reporting circles, it could've been Cooper who brought it up to Rove and Rove who ran with it. We don't have a transcript of that interview.
  12. Really really really really bad move for the Syrians. Not a great idea to give the hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops in the neighborhood a reason to stop by.
  13. Derek Roy + Thomas Vanek + Ryan Miller = bright Sabres future
  14. The part I laughed the loudest at last night was the scene where the two little kids first meet on the airplane and he offers her creme and sugar for her coffee. "No thanks, I prefer it black....just like my men." The look on the kid's face in the very next shot is priceless!
  15. OK but, seriously then, who are the other names? And how many names are there? Was Plame's employment ever a secret to reporters? And what did Cooper know when he interviewed Karl Rove?
  16. I believe it's year to year but I'm not sure. CIA Factbook BTW, this CIA thingy is a treasure trove of information. I had no idea Bhutan existed and that it had a really cool flag.
  17. So why are the reporters "protecting their sources" and going to jail even if KR is being implicated in this whole thing? That doesn't make any sense. I'd like to know if some of the sources being protected are actually other reporters.
  18. I don't know if anyone insisted that it wasn't Rove but I think the thought that Rove did this on purpose out of spite seemed (and still seems) incorrect. From what was reported, it doesn't seem like Rove knew she was a covert agent (didn't seem like much of a secret around Washington where she worked) and the focus of what he was saying was still Wilson. (BTW, 'Austin in da house' in this thread)
  19. Very true. So you'd think with all the incredibly impoverished countries in the world, Iraq wouldn't be at the top of the economic growth list (by quite a bit). Hurts the argument that the war has been a disaster for that country. I'll find the link at some point today.
  20. Of course, according to the CIA, Iraq has the world's fastest growing economy.
  21. Devil's advocate:They need the work/money.
  22. I read that last night and thought it was pretty funny. Then when I saw it again this morning, for some reason I picture the actual sharks (with the American flag tattooed to their fins) and Toby Keith singing about how heroic they were and it was about 10x funnier (probably because I'm still waking up). BTW, this is one of the funniest exchanges in movie history:
  23. Most of the rest of us think it's pretty darn awesome.
  24. Actually, it's pretty easy to find pictures of people just like this all over the internet - protesting capitalism, "American Imperilism", etc. These examples of lunacy happen pretty frequently in cities like SF. This one was particularily interesting because they happened to hit a cop in the head and land him in the hospital in serious condition as part of riots in San Francisco RE: the G8 meetings in Scotland. With regards to the dirtbags who nailed that cop, I am superior. I imagine everyone on this board is.
  25. Mainly they are radical leftists because a big chunk of the kids who usually do the rioting are socialist (or claim to be, or whatever....) and that counts as far left. Yes, yes it is alright. And good luck to your brother.
