  1. I agree with this.

For the OP----did this topic really need yet another thread? Why is it important that we "like him" before any results have been recorded? Why not wait and see what happens? Problems sleeping?

WEO, honestly I did debate that, but I would call it just a generally conglomeration of the seeming fact based upon my observation that over the last few months the normally bi**** members of TSW (myself included) generally have had little if nothing really bad to say about Gailey.

Which is a nice change from the previous regime.

Additionally, as I sort of stated, this isn't a final grade, this is just so far.

EDIT: Problems sleeping? I just got married, so in a way, yeaaahhhhhh. :)

  2. http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2010/8/10/...sleys-condition

I guess the Bills can't catch a break when it comes to injuries. If Easley goes on IR, then Hardy will likely stay on the team.

OK, Jerry, not being a word maven here, the one thing I want to say is I really, really, really, really, REALLY, was hoping to see what this kid could do this year and I truly hope it is not season ending injury.

    Fingers crossed for Easley.

  3. A vote of confidence to a unit and staff that probably badly needs it.

The most basic executive training techniques tells you to encourage your staff and compliment them when you think they are doing a good job. I see nothing wrong with this.

Don't get me wrong, i am not about to start calling Gailey "Uncle Cuddles", however, I still think it is an appreciated move on his part to his staff...that he believes in them, is with them and will stand by them.

  4. I mean keeping in mind everything that was said previously with coaching choices for this team (which by the grace of everything holy we won't rehash here :) ), it generally seems most everyone on TSW kinda likes the guy.

Yes, no games, even preseason, have been played as of yet, but his general demeanor, the way he runs camp, the way he runs fitness training, the coaches he has brought in, the plans he has in place have really, REALLY just been met with general approval by the masses.

I know I am stating the obvious with respect to the above, however, I really didn't even start to dwell on it until this morning and when you get right down to it what it means to me is I really like the direction of the leadership of this team.

Sure, we will curse him the first time he throws the ball on 4th and 1, and for not pulling out the red flag when we think he should.

...but I like this guy and I like what he is doing with this team.

    That's it, nothing more.

    Go Bills.

  5. Since the other thread was such a success and spawned several good ideas, here's another one. Anyone got any good homemade BBQ Sauce recipes? With the season coming up it's full fledged grilling and cooking time!

Man, I approve of this thread, even more than the other one.

I mean I really, really do.

  6. Really? And he was going to start over Wood or Levitre? So basically with the nine pick you wanted Nix to take a player who would be a back up O-lineman and would have no impact on the game at all? I don't understand how that makes sense. Spiller will play; he will line up at receiver, he will return kicks, he will get carries. Even if he's not starting he can make an impact on the game. A back up OG won't unless there's a serious injury.

You left something very important out, PH, which I think is going to play a big factor with the defenses we go up against this year; his speed is going to scare the p*** out of them.

No, no, they are obviously not worried that Spiller is going to be rammed down their throat, but they will be worried about this kids speed to the outside and how the cover him, whether running, or just going out on routes.

  7. Please convince me that this isn't the last year of Bills football.

    FAITH

    Hebrews 11:1

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, (and) the evidence of things unseen."

...and the eternal wish that, this time, God smiles upon children, puppy dogs and cities named Buffalo.

  8. Really dude.

The Philster is a very good poster over at the Billszone. I can read what the guy was saying. Sorry that his sentence structure was not up to snuff but I enjoyed the post.

This board seems to be eat up with poeple like yourself. Get your post total up and add nothing to the conversation.

Thanks for the post Philster and taking time out of your day to offer a good opinion on this board.

Kudos to Philster on a great post and I'll back Rob up on his comments above.

Come on guys, it is tough enough for us just being Bills fans, can we just go easy on each other?

If you want to make a comment about someone else's writing style can't you be a little more constructive like, "I had a difficult time following your comments, but you made some great points."

Philster, you really hit upon what I think is going to be the biggest hurdle for Edwards to overcome whether he is the starter this year, or not.

Additionally, even if he looks OK right now is his new found skill going to unravel once he faces a pass rush that's really looking to get after him?

I've speculated earlier that the Bills are a 5-11 team this year, but still a better team than last year's 6-10. That being said if you could guarantee to me that Trent's "lock-on" rehab is going to be surefire successful this year I honestly would flirt with the idea of a 7-9 or 8-8 season.

...that's how important I think it is.

  9. This has nothing to do with his status as a Bill last year. I think it's going to be a lot of fun to watch the Cinci offense in 2010. A lot more fun than watching Owens as a Bill, as a Cowboy, as an Eagle, whatever. The Bengals on O are going to be fun to watch. That's cool (and it doesn't really detract from the reBillding Bills, either.)

    Agreed.

I am not a T.O. fan, but I don't dislike him, either. The guy caught 55 passes last year on a horrible Bills team with lousy quarterbacks.

No way he catches less. I think he should be good for 65 grabs, almost 1,000 yards and at least 6 TDs on the bengals. Given the guy they have on the other side, that is going to be pretty complimentary numbers (ocho probably pulls 75-80 this year).

  10. It's the first practice people.......hate away for now because when he's ready he'll propell the Baltimore D to #1 in the NFL. All he has to do year 1 is relieve Kelley Gregg 4-6 snaps a quarter .

Yes, but I used to think that about Mike Williams, and that he would have a similar affect on the Bills offensive line.

  11. Ya know, I'm not sure if Bill was going to comeback to coaching, but you hit that stage in your life where your kids are grown and happy, you have been successful and you just want to relax, like the Cowher's did in eventually moving back to NC and Bill saying I'm done for awhile.

These are supposed to be the happy times...54 years old.

God Bless the Cowher family and all those families whose lives have felt the full effect of this disease.

  12. Blue throwbacks will be worn at home vs Jets october 3 and at home vs steelers november 28. The white throwbacks will not be worn this year.

    http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/07/22/t...-jersey-update/

Just speculating here, but I believe you won't see the Bills play in the white throwbacks again.

I believe they were to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the AFL/AFC and were just for last year.

I think that, other than anniversaries like we saw last year, each team is only allowed three versions of jerseys.

    - yeah, sorry, just read the article and my comments above are the case with the white jerseys.

    :w00t:

  13. He wanted to be insulated from the insolent comments. :w00t:

AND it could have been worse, I could have said "insulin" tone.

    :D

Cutting to the chase of this thread, though, of course i want the Bills to stay, but this is a catch 22, or for those of us that have seen Swingers "there's the rub in the fact that do you build a 9 figure stadium:

That burdens the tax payers during hard times, or

not build it, and give the new owner a damn good reason to move the team, above beyond the debt that he'll now have in paying on the financing of his purchase.

Bagel speculated earlier that any purchase of the Bills, other than by a multi-billionaire, would involve 2/3 debt coverage. In other words, if someone is buying this team they are going to be getting about 500-600 million from someplace other than their own piggy bank.

WARNING: I AM NO BANKING EXPERT, BUT I AM GOING TO UNBELIEVABLY SIMPLIFY THIS SO BEFORE THOSE REALLY IN THE KNOW JUMP ALL OVER ME PLEASE KNOW I AM JUST TRYING TO KEEP SIMPLE...MY FIGURES COULD BE OFF, BUT I AM JUST MAKING IT EASY TO UNDERSTAND FOR A DEAL OF THIS SIZE...THAT BEING SAID

$550,000,000 at 3% over 15 years means a debt payment of about 45.5 million dollars a year. If the gross figures this team comes in with is about 200 million dollars (I have no back-up, just based upon memory from recent articles and discussion, feel free to correct me) then 45.5 million is big chunk the new owner is paying.

To potentially say to that new owner, "Hey, now that you bought the team why don't you help spring for a new stadium in an economically depressed area where you can make only so much.", is a little bit of a stretch.

I believe if the new owner pays for half of a new $350 million stadium throw another 15 million a year onto my figure above.

  14. I truly believe the easier thing to do would be, by any means possible, to make me Lord King and Master over all the lands of North America.

At which point in time I will appoint an NFL Czar, for the sake of argument right now, lets just say it will be PTR with StuckinCincy as his #2, the end result of any of their meetings will be that:

    A) The Bills will never be allowed to leave Buffalo; and

    B) A brand new doomed stadium (a special "domed" stadium with a sense of foreboding whenever you enter) made of the finest metal known to man: metal, will be constructed in downtown Buffalo and will be named after the restaurant with the finest wings in Buffalo...to be decided by me at some later date; and

    C) The salary cap will still be in place, with a slight adjustment known as the "Buffalo Bills Tax"; each team gives the Bills 10 million dollars and our cap figure goes up by equal proportion.

...after the above I promise to do something about the debt.

  15. Could someone please tell us what Madden thinks of this?

From ESPN.go, the Madden 11 overall ratings for our DBs

    J. Byrd FS 87

    McGee CB 83

    Whitner SS 83

    McKelvin CB 81

    Scott SS 80

    Wilson FS 72

    Florence CB 68

    Youboty CB 65

    Corner CB 63

    Lankster CB 61

  16. I don't want to debate the merits of whether he does or doesn't should or shouldn't comeback, or whether he is jerking the team around or has simply had enough.

My question is, assuming he does comeback how does he help the team at this stage?

If he is projected as an OLB he comes in at the end of July, 5 weeks away from the first game, with no experience at the position and no time with his teammates.

Kind of a double whammy that is hard to overcome.

Honestly, I would appreciate it if someone can give legitimate reasons on how this wouldn't be a problem.

However, if he could get in and make a difference, i gotta tell ya, when I think about our LBs, Poz, Mitchell, Davis, Maybin and Schoebel, I kind of feel pretty good.

When you throw in our #2 ranked DBs of McKelvin, McGee, Byrd, Wilson, Florence, Corner, Youboty and our DL of Williams, Troup, Edwards, Stroud and Carrington, I just plain don't feel too bad about this defense.

Sure it will take its lumps, but I like the base that we are building.

  17.

Never played cornhole (aka reverse ring toss), and NEVER ate a Cincinnati chili concoction. Ugh! They also hawk a thing called a "coney." It's a 4-inch hot dog contained in a small roll smothered in shredded cheese. The usual order is 4 of them. Now, I watch what I eat, having to pay for the sins of my youth. But if I craved a 1,000 calorie fat and salt bomb (which I do, and I miss), I would get a couple of fast-food cheeseburgers and fries.

Skyline is one purveyor, an outfit named Gold Star is the other big name. Gold Star took a stab, buying up space in other localities - airports were prominent. They slinked away in short order with their tails between their legs as people gagged then laughed.

    But I digress (often).

If they show Roscoe the gate, Roosevelt might get a shot at making the roster. A long shot - but perhaps he has enough moxie. Hines Ward, TJ Houshmanzedeh in recent time.

Stucky, honestly I have had them both. Gold Star - definitely meatier and more chilier. Skyline, for people who don't know, is more like a sauce.

As of the last few years you can get Skyline at Wegman's up here.

A can of Skyline, some diced onions, shredded cheddert cheese, tibasco sauce, all over pasta (i think that is a three or four way)...you got yourself a party, son!!

Additionally, yeah, I think unless he really breaks out that is the only way he makes the active roster.

  18. Going off of memory, PTR I think 103 grabs, 16 TDs and third in the nation in receptions in 2008.

Honestly, i could be wrong, but I don't think I am off by that much.

Not to ignore Stucky's post, but just an update from my post above:

Naaman was 4th in the nation in receptions (104) and 4th in the Nation in yards (1402) in 2008.

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/statis...Yards/year/2008

BTW, Starks was 17th in the Nation in rushing (1333 yds).
