  1. Schein and Tucker were giving the Bills some pretty good props when I was listening to them at around 10 am this morning.

They cautioned that one preseason does not a season make, BUT they said Bills fans have something to be excited about and the likes of Spiller and even Edwards improved play will have a positive affect on the team.

  2. Great memory! I remember that play.

Chas, how happy were you then?

I mean when he pulled that pass down (in my memory) I still get a chill and still remember what it was like to be a fan of a winning ball club, and that was 30 years ago.

...ahhh, memories. The bad does stink, and it has been going on for awhile, but damn if the good doesn't stay with you forever.

  3. You know what you guys, on a side note and hypothetically, if the Bills (lets say new owner John Doe) wanted to build a new, 275 million dollar stadium I bet the NFL would tell us to go shove it.

How dare we, in this day age have the audacity to build a new home for an NFL franchise for anything less than half a billion dollars for 10 games a year.

Yeah, thinking about the Jets, Giants, and Cowboys got me thinking that way, as well as the Bucs and Jacksonville.

Is all this opulence really necessary for every team around the league?

At some point bigger and better just have to give in to enough is enough.

    ...just sayin.

  4. It really doesn't seem that bad what he said.

I'll be honest, I would imagine it would be kind of frustrating to be in one place for almost 10 years and never make the playoffs.

If memory serves me I believe Larry Centers played for 3 different teams through the first 10/11 years of his career (including Buffalo) and had never experienced even a winning season before winning a Super Bowl with New England.

So, yeah, its kind of nice when guys are good and hang around a long time in this league get SOMETHING out of it from a team standpoint.

EDIT: I know my comment isn't directly related to the OPs point, I'm just stating, when you see a team so bad for so long, even other guys around the league think that, man, that sucks.

  5. We've discussed this before and I have the same solution:

    Shane Falco

His coaches rushed him into the starting position in his first season, he should have never been on the field that early.

...if he brings his hot cheerleader girlfriend, I'm all for it.

Note: Not a great movie by any stretch, but if you haven't seen The Replacements at least twice you have no business being on this board.

    :wallbash:

  6. OK, come in a little closer, I don't want the Bills to hear this:

Even if they raised ticket prices by 10% (not $10, 10%) I still don't think it would have any effect on dissuading agood majority of season ticket holders; and

If this team goes 8-8, I seriously think season ticket sales for 2011 hit the 60,000 mark.

Yes, the lowest price ticket in the league, but man, Bills fans are a dedicated bunch.

  7. I've been a die hard Bills fan for nearly 40 years. Once I was old enough to understand the whole rooting for a team concept, I've been watching the Bills. I remember when 90% of the people in this area (Rochester) were Bills fans. People rarely asked you who your favorite team was. They would just assume it was the Bills and would say let's go Bills or let's go Buffalo heading into the weekend. And then on Monday's you would hear allot of "did you see the Bills game yesterday" whether they won or lost. And even if you were on vacation in another state and you were wearing some Bills attire, you would get the occasional, "yeah, Bills fan". But nowadays, and this has been happening for quite awhile now, I seem to get this question heading into football season, "who's your team?". WNY used to be purely Bills country (remember those bumper stickers?) but now it's Steelers, Browns, Giants, Jets, Cowboys, Dolphins, Broncos and Patriots country. And I know there were always a number of Steelers, Browns and Giants fans scattered about, but now it's more and more common. The days of good ol' Bills Country have seemed to disappear and I think this all comes back to Ralph Wilson. He used to have one of the proudest franchises in the NFL, now he has the Red Headed Step Child of the NFL and doesn't seem to give a poop about it or the fans that have supported him throughout all those glory days as well as the sorry days. It will be interesting to hear him after the season, or after 4 or 5 straight woodshed beatings. What can he possibly tell us that will make us believe anything will ever change other than he is selling the team? I for one miss those days and although I still proudly wear my Bills gear, here or anywhere else in the country, it's starting to become a tad bit embarrassing. Last year when I was in Vegas wearing my TO jersey, I was hearing about how pitiful the Bills are, but most of this was coming from Bills fans themselves. I am starting to believe that kids growing up nowadays, who aren't brainwashed by their parents, are rooting for teams that they see win regularly on TV. If I was 5 or 6 right now and wasn't influenced by someone as to who to root for, it sure as hell wouldn't be the Bills just because they are the "local" team. If I were growing up much closer to Buffalo itself, then I'm sure that would have more of an impact on whether I did or didn't choose the Bills for my team. It's really sad to see this once proud football hotbed circling the bowl right now. It's only a game, but it's also a passion for many people. :flirt:

In a very small defense of people; the internet and the Sunday Ticket have made it really easy to be a fan of a team other than one hometown team.

  8. I was at the game Friday night against the Redkins. There was 1 payer who stood out and had the best block of the game for either team. Andy Levtire was left 1 on 1 against Albert Haynesworth, the highest paid D-Lineman in the NFL (last I checked). It was a passing play and Haynesworth knew it and came straight ahead with a massive bull rush.Young alligator armed Levitre had perfect technique, got his arms into Haynesworths body, kept his feet moving and held his block until the pass was gone. Now he was driven back, but unlike last year he was pushed into the QB, it didn't effect the play and he did his job even though giving up 30-40 pounds agaisnt the probowl DT.

Right now I am sooo negative when it comes to the BILLS, I know they suck. But I don't want his play to be lost in the ton of crap that's the rest of the team and all the negativity that comes with it. It can be very hard to watch this team and find terrfic plays and players, but that play on Friday night should not go unnoticed.

Yes, you can't throw the baby out with the bathwater and Levitre is one great big baby...wait...well, you know what I mean.

Wood's injury only delayed his progress, but it would have been great to see them at the same point for the start of their second season. I'm not worried, though, Wood will catch up.

  9. And yet somehow the Bills beat the Jets last year.

    Amen, brother, my thoughts, too.

That's why, even if we have a losing season, if we can jump up and bite a couple of these better teams in the a** and make their fans whine and complain and give bad excuses on how and why they lost to the Bills...well, at least it will give me some pleasure.

    Go Bills!

$2D (yes, I've decided to start stealing from PTR )

  10. The only one who I'd like to see here still is big Pat. The rest of those guys aren't that good. I can't believe that after all of those years of people beating on Coy Wire, he makes it into a post about players we should have kept instead of let go.

By the way, it doesn't matter who of Kelsey, Harris, Ellison, McCargo, etc we keep this year because all of them will be gone after the 2010 season. None of them fit the defense we are trying to run going forward and none of them are good enough now to be worthwhile keeping for situational 4-3 looks, with the possible exception of Kelsey (but the more I see Ellis play, the mroe I wonder if he'll get the ax this season).

BufJ, I would have thought so, too, with Wire, but from what a friend of mine is telling me they really like him, I believe down in Atlanta...team leader and such.

  11. Good for Harris. Really liked him a lot, would've preferred he be kept instead of Ellison.

I second all three of your points, Cash:

    - Good for Harris

    - Like him a lot

    - and would have preferred him over Ellison.

It used to be when guys left Buffalo their careers would sputter and it seemed like a good move.

However, that was prior to the "aughts" and guys like Williams, Bannon, Leonhard, Wire, Fletcher, etc.

  12. I'm little worried that Jackson might start the season on the P.U.P. list, due to the fact that Lynch may not be ready by the opener but we need additional RBs behind Spiller.

It would stink to have Jackson miss any time, but having him miss 6 weeks as a result of being put on the P.U.P. list out of necessity?

    Pretty darn stinky.

  13. :censored:

I'm an Italian/Sicilian American and I hate the Redskins.

I can think of no more disrespectful and derogatory team name in all of American sport.

Could you imagine the Harlem Blackskins or the San Francisco Yellows?

I cringe every time I hear their name....oh well.

    Disgusting, really.

Deano, I'm Italian and Sicilian as well! Sicilian on my mothers side; my father always said he slept with one eye open. :wallbash:

Yeah, contrary to what Metzellars posted early, this is one red dog conservative republican who very much agrees that the name is offensive...i don't know if it will ever be changed, but i don't have any problem if it does.

  14. I was just looking over the 2010 schedule for fantasy football purposes. One thing that that stood out to me is that the AFC East plays all of their divisional matchups in weeks one through four and weeks 13 through 16. Detroit is the only other team with a similar schedule in this regard. Then I noticed that all of the AFC divisional games are generally toward the beginning of the season and at the end, while the NFC divisional games are more evenly distributed throughout the season.

Another oddity that I noticed is the divisional matchups for Chicago and Detroit. Chicago’s first three divisional games are at home. Detroit’s first three divisional games are on the road.

I’ve never paid much attention to other teams schedules. Has week 17 always consisted entirely of divisional matchups? I remember the commish stating that there would be more divisional games toward the end of the season to avoid situations such as Indy’s last year. That definitely seems to be the case this year.

With our final three divisional matchups in the last four weeks of the season, maybe we will still have some hope to cling to at the end of the season.

Buffalokie I have to give you props on this thread for a few different reasons which don't always come up on this Board.

    1. You took something that I haven't really thought about before and hasn't really been discussed on this Board a lot, namely the schedule anomaly;

    2. Then you analytically broke it down into a set of facts and comparisons around the league;

    3. Then you tied it in to a fact concerning the Bills' schedule;

    4. And then you finished with why it is important (or could be) to the Bills' season.

Seriously, dude, nice. I was expecting nothing when I came in and instead I went:

    "OK, didn't know that..."

    "Interesting..."

    "Good point..."

    "True!"

Honestly, a very purposeful and thought out post.
