As a UFA, I don't think the Bills would get any comp for him, correct?
-
You've got a very low bar if you consider Ed Oliver good against the run.
-
I asked because they could do a tag and trade in case that was what you were talking about.
-
Earlier in the season when Phillips was actually healthy and not playing with 1 arm, I'd take him anyday vs the run over Ed.
-
What do you mean by trade him? He's a UFA. Are you suggesting we tag him? From reports I've seen tagging will cost almost $21M.
-
Ed in there against the run is a liability. Plain and simple. I much preferred a healthy Phillips or Settle in there against the run. We need heft in there to stop the run. It would be one thing if Ed could use speed to get off his blocks and make plays, but he doesn't. He just gets pushed around.
-
Oh, I don't disagree, but if they were going to move on from Edmunds, I still think he'd be an option that wouldn't cost anywhere near what Edmunds would.
-
Beane can basically get back to even with the cap just by restructuring Josh. If he does same with some other contracts (Diggs, White, Dawkins, Morse & Milano) they can gain +$20M of cap space.
-
Tranquill had a great year. 7 games with double digit tackles. 95 solo (146 total) 5 sacks, FF, INT, 12.5 stuffs. Okereke has a good year too. 99 solo tackles (151 overall) 2 forced fumbles, 2 recoveries, 12.5 stuffs.
-
If they re-sign Saffold, it better be to the equipment crew.
-
Yep, contract restructuring is the name of the game now. As long as there's backloading and outs built in that allow us to move on if his play never reaches what you'd expect from a guy making $20M per, I'm good with it.
-
If he's there at 27, which I doubt, I think we have to pull the trigger. I just don't see a guy who's being compared to Saquon Barkley, who went #2 overall, falling almost to the end of the round. Makes no sense, IMO. If we somehow did pull it off, would be a great backfield similar to the Ingram and Kamara duo. In 2017, Ingram was over 1K yds and Kamara was over 700. Just gotta get Dorsey to get Cook involved in the passing game like Kamara is so well.
-
Given our cap situation, I would have to believe it's something similar to this because if it weren't, most of the cap space they could get from restructurings is already gone then.
-
He's going to have a hard time beating that in FA unless he's looking for more guaranteed money up front.
-
I'm still not convinced at all that a guy who's already considered to be a top 5 talent is somehow going to fall in our laps at 27 like it's divine intervention or something. I see more and more mocks having us get him, but I still don't understand the how part. What am I missing here? I get he's a RB, but several teams ahead of us need one and if he's that great why would they turn him down, but he's considered a must for us?

Frazier: The hard FACTS on why many of us want a change.
Billz4ever replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
Getting an O-line that can actually block will go a long way there. -
I'll take either one. From what I heard, Frazier's contract was up this year, so they signed a 1 year extension or something of the sort if he might be done after next year.
-
Trade ups happen when they have a specific positional player they're going after. In this draft, I don't know as we have that scenario. Unless he's specifically chasing someone like Robinson and doesn't expect him to fall to us at #27, I don't really see it happening. I don't know as Beane sees RB as a vital need here and if going for BPA, that typically happens at your normal draft position. I don't think you historically see a lot of BPA picks come from a trade up vs a pick at the normal draft position.

Would you resign Edmunds or a tackle?
Billz4ever replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
We don't really have an OLB. We run a 4-2-5 base and Edmunds and MIlano both usually line up directly behind the D-Line. We'd actually be paying Edmunds more up front than Smith with that scenario and the numbers we were discussing. Makes sense to me if he'll sign something like that with an out after a few years. -

I could go for that. The out is a must though. If his play isn't rising, we need to be able to get out from under that contract. His current production just doesn't justify the $16M to $20M per he may be hoping for IMO. -

Rumor is he wants to stay in Buffalo. We'll see what he values more. I don't blame him if he leaves to take a much better deal elsewhere, but he also shouldn't expect the Bills to match and overpay. Milano is the all-pro between the two of them, so if he really wants to stay here, he should accept the Milano deal adjusted for inflation, so around $12M per at the most. -

They should offer him what we gave Milano ($11M per) and let's say $12M with inflation. Take it or leave it. -

When you compare the production we get from each, I don't see how Oliver is worth $10M and Edmunds is not worth $11M (the Milano deal) if we can re-sign him for that (let's say $12M with inflation). If there's anyone who's not living up to what they're making right now, it's Oliver. Edmunds (13 games in 2022) 102 tackles (66 solo), 1 sack, 1 INT, 7 pass defenses, 8.5 stuffs. Oliver (13 games in 2022) 34 tackles (20 solo), 2.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 recovery, 3 pass defenses, 8.5 stuffs. -
Saquon Barkley is Still a Media Favorite to the Bills
Billz4ever replied to JackKemp's topic in The Stadium Wall
Tre's dead cap is $23M. Makes no sense to try and trade him. Who is going to want to pay his salary anyway if he's not the same player?
