  3. When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more And the morning breaks eternal bright and fair When the saved diverse shall gather over on the other shore And the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there
  4. Jeff VanderMeers "Southern Reach" tetralogy, classified by some as "Weird Fiction" (it is actually much more SF than Fantasy). The first part, "Annihilation", was excellent (the 2018 movie is also highly recommended), parts two, "Authority", and three, "Acceptance", were very good, but IMHO did not reach the standards of "Annihilation". However, in the very recent (and by most readers and critics, unexpected) forth part, "Absolution", VanderMeer is again at his best.
  5. So hold me, Mom, in your long arms So hold me, Mom, in your long arms In your automatic arms, your electronic arms In your arms So hold me, Mom, in your long arms Your petrochemical arms, your military arms In your electronic arms (Ah, ah-ah)
  6. Same problem here. My wife is a biochemistry professor with several grants, and when somebody gets a cold, the first thing she does is getting out the echinacea which is not supported by science.
  7. On Tuesday Garth Hudson, the last surviving member of The Band (who also happened to be the oldest), died. Garth (at age 80) on piano.., ...and a much younger Garth on sax... ...and accordion.
  8. Another example that even the best can produce a stinker (although I do not think it hurt their career): "Ob-la-di, ob-la-da" by you-know-who.
  9. We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin' There wasn't as many as there was a while ago We fired once more and they began to runnin' On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
  10. We're so sorry, uncle Albert But we haven't done a bloody thing all day We're so sorry, uncle Albert But the kettle's on the boil And we're so easily called away Hands across the water, water Heads across the sky Hands across the water, water Heads across the sky
  11. We were the war children 1945 When all the soldiers came marching home Love looks in their eyes, in their eyes Tennessee, Tennessee Williams Oh, let your inspiration flow Let it be around when we hear the sound Of the springtime rivers flow, rivers flow
  12. In this approximately infinite universe I know a girl who's in constant hell No love or pill could keep her cool Cause there's a thousand holes in her heart
  13. I went out one morning took some air by the sea Looked for my little girl but she was nowhere A painted pony rides into the sea I wonder if my girl ever think of me Love is a funny thing it comes and goes
  14. Day after day Alone on a hill The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still But nobody wants to know him They can see that he's just a fool And he never gives an answer But the fool on the hill sees the Sun going down And the eyes in his head see the world spinning 'round
  15. 40, 000 headmen, they couldn't make me change my mind If I had to take the choice between the deaf man and the blind I know just where my feet should go and that's enough for me So I turned around and knocked them down and walked across the sea Heading down the road Heading down the road Rolling and rumbling Rolling and rumbling Rolling and rumbling With 40, 000 headmen on my tail 40, 000 headmen on my tail Thank you
  16. Part, part, I said part Part company made her men disappear Cut my swath and spread my fear Before we'd met, I hadn't wiped my feet Seen myself naked or, part company
  17. Nobody gonna take my car I'm gonna race it to the ground Nobody gonna beat my car It's gonna break the speed of sound Ooh, it's a killing machine It's got everything Like a driving power Big fat tires and everything
  18. You do not necessarily have to alternate between those two; just try what works better for you. For me, ibuprofen is much more effective. And if you just use it on an emergency basis, you might consider going beyond the recommended OTC dose if necessary for a day or two. Unfortunately, many of the other remedies suggested so far are not backed up by independent scientific studies. Most rely on a placebo effect. Sometimes the placebo effect can be indirect. As an example, my wife is a big fan of Echinacea as cold remedy; it is expensive but scientifically utterly useless. I will take it to make her happy, and her happiness will aid my recovery. For me personally, when I feel really bad, I would make (or ask for) chicken noodle soup. It is clearly not directly fighting viruses or bacteria, but I just enjoy it and feel much better afterwards.
  19. "Comfortably Numb". David Gilmour with Robert Wyatt on vocals.
  20. Well, there is something we get right here in the US. The line on the bottom of the package states "Product Made in Spain. Sliced in the USA."
  21. Don't know about apps. On the PC, the web site of the National Weather Service (weather.gov) is my favorite. The main possible problem is that it is sometimes too detailed, and you will need a minute to find the info you need.
  22. When I was a little girl, I had a rag doll Only doll I've ever owned Now I love you just the way I loved that rag doll But only now my love has grown And it gets stronger in every way And it gets deeper, let me say And it gets higher day by day Do I love you, my oh my? Oh baby River deep, mountain high If I lost you would I cry Oh, how I love you, baby, baby, baby, baby
  23. I read the news today, oh boy Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire And though the holes were rather small They had to count them all Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall I'd love to turn you on
  24. Tom Waits wrote so many great songs. My favorite "Swordfishtrombone".
