If they're current odds, the Divisional round is going to have an impact. I'd argue, if any odds should be looked it, it's those around the time the vote closed.
-
Before this year, I would agree. Now I would say Josh, as he has controlled the turnovers (please don't let this be a jinx). He has the bigger explosive plays where needed, albeit Mahomes hasn't had to dip into that bag as often.

Random talking head says something about the Bills
UKBillFan replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's so, if the Bills win, they can say "Told you so" and, if they lose, it's "Josh should have done better!" 😉 -
He should have been criticised more than he has been for this year's performance. It was a single game example of Josh's regular 2023 season - balled out but with costly turnovers. He was shredded for that but most fingers are being pointed solely at Andrews. I'm sure not all of Josh's turnovers in 2023 were his fault (alone) but very different story there. I agree, Lamar got a lot of unfair criticism at the start of his career but, over the last couple of years, they've gone too far the other way in defending him.

I think it's less hate on Lamar and how he seems to be treated differently to Josh. Excuses made, less criticism, criteria changes for MVP etc. It's on the media rather than Lamar as a QB.

Just be clear and fair with their assessments. Not too much to ask. But guess they might not get clicks that way. -

So why is it that JOSH HAS TO GET IT DONE, whereas all and sundry have been defending Lamar? No worries about him getting it done, it's all about the team letting him down. And yet, that's been exactly the case for Josh against the Chiefs in the play offs. He's been playing brilliantly, and either defense, special teams or both have collapsed in the end. The dislike of Josh is only beaten in the infuriating stakes by nobody willing to call out the hypocrisy. -

You think that will stop them? It's a nice thought. -
Lamar's ceiling was higher than Josh's on Monday, but his floor was lower. It very much was a page from the Chiefs playbook - keep it clean and let the opposition beat themselves. Josh of yesteryear wouldn't have managed it, possibly as he'd feel it was all on him due a lack of a run game. That's what makes Lamar's turnovers even worse. He had Henry, he had Hill. He didn't need to risk it. He did and it cost them. Josh played safe and it's the Bills in the Championship game.

The thing is there is nothing to say now that Josh shouldn't have been drafted before Lamar. There should be no argument if Josh had gone pick one and Lamar two, or vice versa. They have so many strengths and qualities. For some reason they seem fixated on criticising Josh to build up Lamar, which then leads to others (especially Bills fans) doing the opposite to counter it. -
My biggest concern was Josh struggling and losing to the Ravens, with Lamar playing lights out - and then winning MVP. The brickbats he would have got would have been unbearable. Whereas Lamar... well, he can turnover the ball twice and still not be criticised so he'll be fine whatever.

The national media narrative since the Bills won
UKBillFan replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Ravens pulled out a classic Bills post season loss out of their back pocket. Arguably the better team but couldn't get out of their own way, then lost on a play which will be remembered by their own fans forever more. What would we call it if it had happened to us? The Two Point drop? (Football gods - I do not want to find out next weekend. Thanks) -
I'm having trouble with the framing as well. Because you cannot exclude turnovers because of otherwise brilliant play. Otherwise Josh would have been the unanimous MVP last year.
-
Yes, and that would be a valid point then. The Bills idiotic play calling would have come back to haunt them. And the Ravens would have won despite of Lamar's turnovers.
-
Of course it was one thing which cost them the game. Not the only thing but one thing.
-
The fumble was one thing which cost them the game. Take the TD off the Bills and the Ravens win. He got lucky on the INT the Bills got called back on a non-existent penalty. With an eleven point lead - 7 of which came from one of the turnovers - at the half, the Bills went conservative, which I hated. Lamar is not solely responsible for the loss, but he played his part. Josh wasn't at his best yesterday but he protected the ball. He handed the Ravens nothing. Lamar helped the Bills to 7 and was a flag away from possibly more.
-
You could say that about any QB. Take out the turnovers and they did their job. Lamar had a great second half when they got Henry going. He is a fantastic QB. But, despite stats which don't stand up to scrutiny, I cannot sit here and say someone who was solely responsible for one turnover and majorly responsible for another, which cost them the game, was better. And you may say Josh would get a free ride in here - debatable - but he wouldn't be getting the support from the media Lamar's getting now if the performances were reversed.
-
Regarding the fumble, it was a bad snap but he'd recovered control and was looking to make a play when he dropped the ball. Admiring Lamar is one thing. Making out he had no hand in the Ravens going out is something else. Josh had a better game because he protected the ball. Lamar didn't. Twice.

The national media narrative since the Bills won
UKBillFan replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
This. I didn't like Josh and McD coming out with "Everyone doubted us" yesterday. Too early. Take it to the Bowl. So I'm thankful the national media have presented something else to wind them up. This and the Chiefs basically getting a bye to the Super Bowl should be enough for this week. Then, hopefully after a victory at Arrowhead, Lamar winning MVP over Josh the night before the Super Bowl will propel Josh to even greater heights (though I will be delighted if he gets MVP too). -
Divisional Round, Ravens v. Bills, GAME BALLS!
UKBillFan replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
This was a strange game, as everyone played decently but no one excelled. Will go with... Allen, Cook, Shakir Bernard, Milano, Miller Bass -
Josh wanted to lateral on that 3rd and goal
UKBillFan replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thought I saw one before - but it deserves another thread as it really does show Josh's growth. And/or the defense had him wrapped up so tightly he couldn't throw it. Either or. 😆 -
The reaction of the majority on Josh's pass to Kincaid was bad throw which should have still been caught. It's the same with Andrews' two pointer. If they want him gone, I'd be happy if the Bills signed him.
-
Ironically, a lot of us are frustrated today because Josh wasn't really allowed to be Superman yesterday - whether that was McDermott's choice, Brady or his own. But, actually, isn't that a good thing? Just one turnover from the Bills and we'd be looking at the post season right now.
-
He's the reason they needed the perfect comeback in the first place. And Josh wouldn't have been allowed to forget it.
