I believe it because Buffalo is near water, which will usually be warmer than the surrounding land and help keep temps warmer than they otherwise would be.  KC is surrounded by land, so they don't have that benefit even though they are further south.  When I was in Ohio, some of the coldest temps I have ever been in were in this little town called Mount Gilead which was in the middle of nowhere about 45 minutes north of Columbus and it would regularly be like -5 or -8 there in the mornings when I left for work. Fingers felt like fish sticks they were so cold and my bones hurt.  Could not imagine living in places like Minnesota, North Dakota or even places in NYS like Watertown or Lake Placid where it routinely gets in the --20s and -30s without wind chills in the winter---AND they get Buffalo amounts of snow on top of it, unlike most of the other colder places in the upper Midwest.

Yup.  The Lake can keep the air warmer and as we know, can also drop a ton of fat fluffy snowflakes.

    Speculation:

With our passing game, and our lack of running game, and our offensive line compared to the Chiefs' offensive line, would it actually be better for the Bills to play the 2023 AFC Championship in warmer weather at Arrowhead in late January instead of on the frozen tundra in Buffalo? 🤒

A January game in KC will not be warm.  Believe it or not, Buffalo's average temperatures in January are only slightly lower than KC's.

Aren't you sick of losing playoff games at Arrowhead?  We need the game to be played at home.

Watching the game yesterday and taking note of Tremaine Edmunds and Jordan Poyer absence I have this thought.

The Steelers were able to be fairly successful throwing the ball yesterday and to be honest I felt the absence of Edmunds was a major cause of that success although the yards were “a lot of empty calories” completions.

Edmunds presence with his height and wingspan and quickness erect havoc on the opposing QB field of vision and stop many of those passes that were completed yesterday.

Obviously Poyer also being out impacted the overall success of the pass defense.

While I agree that Edmunds and Poyer are very good players and key pieces of the defense, yesterday was not the game that proves that.  They we not missed and resting them was the smart thing to do.

Pittsburgh scored 3 points.  Zero points in the second half and they played against all backups for the last quarter.   It was hard to notice we were missing any starters, let alone 5 on defense.

This team does not seem likely to lay an egg. Not with the "Don't Blink" mentality and new killer instinct.

The Miami game is going to be seen more and more for the fluke that it was -- crazy events converging.

After KC, the Bills will be heavy favorites in every game. If Allen stays healthy, when do they lose? Are we about to watch an 11-game winning streak (13 if we beat KC)?

15-2 or 16-1 is just sitting there for this team.

vs. Packers (SNF after the bye)

    @ Jets

    vs. Vikings

    vs. Browns

    @ Lions (Thanksgiving)

    @ Patriots (TNF)

    vs. Jets

    vs. Dolphins

    @ Bears

@ Bengals (MNF) -- maybe the toughest game, but I think it's a great matchup and we have primetime Josh

vs. Patriots -- Josh could rest if #1 seed locked up

If ANY of these games were this week, everyone would be picking the Bills. That's not likely to change as long as Allen stays healthy.

    It's a long season.

  5.

Shakir looks versatile and can rotate in and sub for any of the three (McKenzie, Davis, Diggs).  Whether Shakir "starts" is not important.  He will play and he will get targets. I like the possibility that we can move him around.  He will make plays.

Not sure we are going to see much of Crowder with his injury.  Kumerow will go back to ST mostly.

Do you really see Bernard as a potential Edmunds replacement?  Edmunds is 6'5" 250.  Bernard seems as though he's built more like a strong safety.

I am old school in that I love a throwback style MLB but that is not how the Pass oriented NFL works today, especially the Bills defense for that matter.

Is Edmunds really a MLB if we play a 2 LB scheme?  Does he need to be proto-type 6'5" and 250 to fit what the Bills do?   I like the size but does he need it to do what the Bills do?  The fact that Edmunds is that mobile and can cover makes him a freaky guy but is he better in our defensive system than Milano?

If Bernard is a tweener than so is Milano.   Bernad is 6'1", 225, he is a Milano clone in that regard.   Milano is 6'0", 223.  Dodson is 6'0", 237.

If Bernard replaces Edmunds we have two "tweeners" at LB, so we better have some beef at DT to keep these guys clean.  LBs, safeties, and corners all have to be quick and all have to tackle to work in our system.

Final Comment:  I want Edmunds to stay if Beane can figure it out.  I think Dodson and Bernard are step down from him, despite how well they played against an ailing Pittsburgh offense.

I love this explanation. “Unnecessarily throwing him to the ground.” If Boger didn’t want Tom thrown the ground, maybe he should have blown the whistle as soon as he was contacted? You can’t have it both ways. Can’t call a penalty on it and not have a quick whistle.

I get that the QB is critical, and Brady gets more protection than anybody, but what are the rules?

Can't hit low, can't hit high.  Can't land on them with weight.   Can't swing them around from the waist.

I am honestly not sure how Davis keeps doing it. He only runs a 4.54 40 which is average speed for a WR and certainly not the type of speed that would make you think he has the ability to consistently take the top off a defense, but yet here we are.

Since Davis has come into the NFL, he ranks 4th with an average of 18.0 YPC. The only 3 players ahead of him are either fading players like DeSean Jackson who is currently a UFA, Henry Ruggs who is no longer playing and likely never will again, and John Ross who is a bit player and a one trick pony.

All of them are speed guys. Looking at the receivers directly after him, you have Marques Valdez-Scantling, Donovan People-Jones and Breshard Perriman. Again all speed guys...

Davis doesn't fit the mold of a deep threat but yet he is one of the best ones in the NFL and consistently gets open deep.

So my question is how?? Is he simply great at setting up CBs with moves to get them turned or to slow down and then runs by them or does he have much faster play speed than what he ran in the 40?

I don't think anyone thought when we drafted him we were getting the NFL's best deep threat(by the numbers at least...I would still pick Hill obviously if I had to have one play) but yet he has turned into the big play WR for us.

    Good point for a thread.

He uses size and his moves (reading coverage) to get open and gain separation.   His "game speed" is pretty fast.

  9. My takeaways:

I was surprised that a Mike Tomlin team played like that, even with injuries.  We clearly beat them in the trenches.

Allen was amazing again as was Diggs and Davis.  The Team Defense is really impressive, especially looking at the quality of the depth.  Frazier and McD have this side of the ball dialed in.

Some of the players that came up big were Hamlin and Dodson.   Hamlin just seems to be getting more effective and confident.  Dodson was solid as usual and made himself known out there.  Shakir played very well as a receiver and as a returner.

Cook made a big play for a TD, he has to continue to gain trust and that means work hard in practice and be ready to go.

Elam is a solid rookie, today he had his first rough one.  They targeted him a lot and he seemed to be playing off the receiver too much.  He had a tough match up with a big receiver.  When he came up with the INT that had to be good for his head.  He said afterward he has work to do.  I am not worried about him bouncing back.

    On to the Chiefs.

It looks like Hussy was pushing on Epensea and ep didn't realize who was pushing on him. He turned to fend him off and then realized it was a ref.

    Hussy clearly a punk.

All true, Epenesa used his elbow but never really made contact, but he hung around and said something and that made Hussy throw his hat for the penalty.

I doubt Eppy said "Sorry Ref, didn't see you" which was the only smart thing he could have said at that point.

  11. It was an odd game.  We made so many great plays that they negated any mistakes, and we made a few.

To start with the 98-yard Bomb to Davis and then Davis makes a one-handed catch on a contested ball for a 2nd TD.  WOW!!

To think we had an INT in the endzone and a fumble literally inches from the goal line.  Could have put up 50+.

The defense gave them short stuff underneath and their rookie QB took what was given, but in crunch time the defense held them every time.

Next week will be a B I G game, once again in Arrow Head.

Hoping we get a few more players back (Knox, Poyer).  Did Oliver play, I didn't see him?

There are still some pretty obvious issues, but nothing that can't be overcome. The most concerning ones that could derail us against good teams are:

    1. Injuries - This is the big "DUH" in the room. Defense has been getting battered. Despite only netting 3 points, a rookie QB was able to move the ball pretty consistently for large chunks of the game (and even pick on Elam repeatedly)

    2. Run Game - A lingering concern that I see as primarily a run-blocking issue, not a RB one. Singletary has shown he can find the open holes when they're there, it's just that he's often hit immediately after getting the ball.

    3. Turnovers - Every team has them, but we can't keep putting ourselves in bad positions early & rely on the defense bailing us out.

Honorable Mention: Points off turnovers - We had a chance to take a pretty commanding 2 score lead early, then went backwards, got a FG blocked, & walked away with 0 points. This isn't the first time the offense has done nothing after a turnover either. This could be a deciding factor against better teams.

We win 38-3 and this is your take-away?

    Steelers 41

    Bills 6

With Poyer out again, Tomlin tells the rookie to push the ball deep center and repeatedly takes advantage of our safety communication issues.  The Steelers defense shows up big and Josh has a very 2021 Jags type of performance.  Lack of reps with Shakir leads to at least one Josh interception and the Bills fail to find the endzone.  On the Bills one promising drive, led by multiple passes from Josh to Davis, Davis tweaks his ankle, and the Bills never find the redzone again.  Bills are at 3-2 heading into a KC to really kill the season mood at .500 heading into the bye week

Wow.   Poyer makes that big of a difference?  The Steeler have a bottom 5 offense in the AFC and they will put up 41 points?

If we lose it is a frustrating one score game.

    I think we win 34-10

It's scored as a Josh Allen fumble.  There was an aborted snap in the 1Q of the MIA game.

But @Back2Buff is confused, because it was recovered, just cost us a down, and we scored a TD 3 plays later.  The other 2 fumbles were strips.

It was clear that Allen was having to look for the ball and adjust A Lot, and that cost us all game in being able to quickly adjust and also in not being able to operate under center (Dorsey admitted that).

But Morse and Allen had a couple of exchange problems at the end of the Tennessee game as well, and Morse and Allen had an aborted snap that put us in 4th and 1 in the 3Q of the Ravens game.  So it's  really not clear that McDermott was being "too conservative" vs. Morse genuinely having a R arm injury that affected his ability to snap and caused him to need to rest a week and heal (incompletely).

And the play that Allen failed to spike the ball before the half, that was on Allen.  He lost control of the ball.
