There had been some playing with what constitutes a paragraph, over in Europe, with James Joyce primarily. Faulkner changed literature in America with the way that he used paragraphs to emulate a person's perspective. Traditionally, paragraphs are used to formulate a point. I guess we don't always think in paragraphs, but Thoreau is taught of, as forming exemplary paragraphs in American Literature, and Emerson, just before him was the master of the sentence. Faulkner behind them both, was on the experimental side of the best American prose fiction. OP is about 90 years late in style, and less late in subject.
