I don't know why Daboll and Schoen are keen to move off him, maybe it is all character issues, I don't pretend to have the answer on that. I do, however, know that my biggest knock on him coming out was route running. He has some Stevie Johnson in him. He runs every route his own way, he is sloppy coming out of breaks and he doesn't get to his landmarks consistently. There is no doubt he is dynamic with the ball in his hands, but if you think about the Daboll offense it is about sharp, precise route running that requires the receivers to read the defense and adjust their routes and puts a lot on their plate in that regard. Someone who does his own thing like Toney doesn't scream immediate fit. Whether it works for the Bills depends on how much Dorsey is sticking with what they had, and how much he is willing to adjust. Whether it is worth it price wise depends on how much the Giants are after and what the truth is character wise.

Good points.  I guess the hope when they drafted him was to coach him to being less sloppy but his character just wouldn't allow it.

Being an NFL football player is a privilege and I can't stand "attitude players".

Send him to McDonalds for minimum wage.

  2. Top corners and actual first-round-graded players drafted already when we picked at 25.

Traded down and got two extra second rounders this year and gave up a 6th rounder this year and 4th next.

CB Hill was the first pick, and I nabbed Brisker as INSURANCE/LEVERAGE with the Poyer situation.

LB Chenal was a good value at 57

Didn't plan on taking two WR's back to back but that's what the board produced.  Metchie can stretch the field, while Phillips adds slot competition

    Went OG in the 5th

    NT in the 6th

Closed it out with a TE/FB/KR hybrid player (and personal late pick "hope")

Why? Because he didn’t show up for VOLUNTARY stuff? Neither did Diggs that I’m aware of. It doesn’t matter. He’s not easily replaceable. 1st Team All Pro that is joined at the hip with your other Safety.

He is playing at a fairly high level but on the wrong side of 30, you don't want to overpay for what he's DONE vs. what he can still DO.  To me that includes his ability at his age to stay healthy, play every game, and play every game at a high level commensurate to his paycheque amount.

Beane knows what he's doing saying that "right now he's focused on the draft" and that "he wants Poyer back".  I think both statements are telling.  He wants Poyer back "at the right dollar amount", but the draft might offer some leverage with Poyer's deal.

They will be about 18 short after the draft - even with 8 guys and they will get like 6-8 UDFAs based upon last year and the talent level on the roster - meaning they will be a good 10 players short.

If they trade down to 5 picks - you are 13 or so short - it becomes difficult to pick up that many legitimate players to fill a roster.

It is going to be an interesting draft.

Wow I did not realise this.  Thanks for clarifying.

  5. After watching Beane's conference with media, one takeaway I have is that Beane feels the draft is top thin, and middle round heavy.  He said he wouldn't bet the farm on a first round player (and I think there might only be 20 or less first round-graded prospects).

So....  I guess that means he will "more likely" trade out of the first to get more second, third, fourth round picks.  I think that we also have arguably too many picks in that scenario and some picks might not even "win" a job on the 53 or PS.

To me that means he would also try to trade back UP in middle rounds to go and get players he really wants as opposed to letting the board fall to him.

I'm betting on more middle round picks, and we may trade away a 7th and/or a 6th rounder to move up in the middle rounds.

5 solid picks when the dust settles.

Hopefully one or two that will earn significant starting time to improve the team, with the others adding needed depth at key positions.

Do the Bills have the money to make this happen? I know teams work around the cap all the time but Beane did spend a ton of money this offseason already.

Yeah they'll draft OC in the first and cut Morse to free up a tonne of cap $$.

....that's a joke by the way...

  7. I'll just post a mock here and there.

In this version, Jameson Williams dropped all the way to 25.  No brainer.

Addressed CB in round 2 and Interior OL in round 3

Grabbed a TE that would have likely gone much higher if not for an ACL injury.  Can develop behind two current starters.

Added another physical corner for depth.

    The DL Brooks was BPA

Added the "everything player; RB/FB, TE, KR etc..." and my fav "hidden gem" Connor Heyward:  When have you seen a fullback/TE hybrid return kicks....

Teammate Nailor adds another developmental WR to the roster.

If it's such a well known belief, there are a lot of GMs who didn't get notified.  In the last 10 drafts 16 RBs have been selected in the 1st round, 4 in the top 4 of the entire draft.  In the 20s, where the Bills are drafting,  4 have been drafted in the last 4 drafts.  So I guess it's almost anyone but the NFL GMs.  Here's the list:

    2021- Harris (24), Etienne (25)

    2020- Edwards-Helaire (32)

    2019- Jacobs (24)

    2018- Barkley (2), Perry (27), Michel (31)

    2017- Fournette (4), McCaffrey (8)

    2016- Elliott (4)

    2015-Gurley (10), Gordon (15)

    2013-Paterson (29)

    2012-Richardson (3), Martin (31), Wilson (32)

Hmmm..  Seems to be in line with the number of Quarterbacks taken in the first round over the years.  And Safeties.  And Guards?

  9. Here's my latest mock in a TRADE DOWN scenario (if the value at Cornerback isn't there).  In this case we get THREE second round picks, and THREE playmakers at CB, WR, and CB.  What you can't see is the 7th round pick spent on Georgia DE Adam Anderson for the PS, and develop.

Hall has been talked about enough.  You know why I picked him in the 2nd round, not the 1st.

McCreary is a solid corner for insurance (Tre's injury / recovery etc).

Tolbert is fast and can stretch the field.

Beavers is excellent in coverage and could counter the Kelce's of the league

Smith was brought in for a visit and may be an interior OL target

Ellis was a value pick for me.  Developmental DT

Nailor in my view could make the 53 man roster for depth

Turner could develop, potentially on the PS

Agree but it's still a hard no for Hall or any running back at pick 25. Beane knows this and I'd be shocked if he was the pick.

    Bingo!

I agree with you 100% again.

I think the only way we get Hall or KWIII is in ONE draft scenario (and another unlikely scenario).

    1.  We can't find a trade partner to trade up for a cornerback. --- AND

    2.  Beane doesn't like the options at 25 and CAN find a trade down partner to target Hall or KWIII (plus get an extra second rounder in the process)

    Unlikely

    - Hall or KWIII last until our second round pick.  Then you just have to jump all over that.

Nope - that is about o-line.  Singletary currently averages just short 4.8 YPC for his career.  Other recent 1st round picks like Najee Harris and CEH are both well below that average.

Nothing that I have seen from Walker or Hall suggests they will be better.  Jonathan Taylor and Derrick Henry are excellent, but both benefit from superior run blocking o-lines - as shown when Henry missed time and the running game handled by low level back-ups was just as good.

You want to control the clock and burn time - then you want o-line in the first not RB.  That helps you more on many levels in my opinion.

Totally agree with you here RochesterFan.

Hoping that we can improve the OL, snag a CB one way or another AND land Breece Hall or KWIII.

Too much to ask for though....  unless we get a miracle in the Free Agency or via TRADE.

Beane is one smart GM though and there has to be a way.

How about  about we trade our 4th round pick  for Saquan Barkley for 1 year super bowl run and then let him walk. Use our 1st and 2nd round picks on CB and OG.?

You know, this draft is deep at WR and I'd rather see who's available as a potential long term player for the Bills with 4th round WR options.  Interesting idea though.

    2 minutes ago, NewEra said:

Agreed on both points.  We just don’t know how much the Bills love Breece Hall or the other prospects that will be considered @ 25.  If they like Hall and a corner, wr, DE, OT close to equally, drafting the rb would be foolish imo…..based on the 5th year option being much more valuable for the other positions.

I think that the FO thinks more about whether a player will help the team win superbowls moreso than thinking about 5th year options.  If a bon afide PLAYMAKER can be added, I think they just go get 'em.

Been what I’ve been saying for a while now. They don’t seem to be nearly as panicked as most of the fans. They seem to like Dane Jackson and I’ll bet Tre is back sooner than most think. They also have an amazing track record of developing DBs.

Yes, and actually although I'm SURE they tried to shore up the position, the silver lining is that they will have more time to assess Tre's injury.

  14. One of my all time favorite players was LaDanian Tomlinson and I saw him GUSHING over Breece Hall's skill set recently.  As far as I'm concerned, if Hall is as good as LT thinks he can be, it would be worth landing him despite our need at Cornerback.  I'm actually thinking that if we don't trade UP for a cornerback, the best option would be to trade BACK for Breece Hall, and get an extra second rounder out of the trade (using one or both second round pics on cornerbacks).

I also read an article where Beane was discussing our CB need and he is in a "don't panic" mindset and feels that there is plenty of time to address CB in the draft, and during the time after the draft, when guys like Joe Haden (and others who are testing the market) could see their prices reduced.

    In Beane I trust.....
