Seems like hardly anyone on this forum thinks we're going to win. I think we have a pretty good team.

I think we overreact based on the previous game assuming our team will play exactly the same...and we don't apply this rule to our opponent lol lamar threw one of the worst interceptions I've ever seen last week where he missed his receiver in single coverage by a mile.  If he's gonna be that shakey dropping balls into tight windows we will destroy them

That was one of our Achilles Heels last year.  Wink Martindale saw that Allen struggled to throw deep and the Bills couldn't run a screen pass to save their lives so we had no solutions to Cover 0.  When it wasn't Cover 0 that disguised/delayed blitz or "amoeba" front that NE and Miami and AZ all ran against us (or sometimes both).  Even when Allen solved it, it slowed his processing and allowed their pressure time to get home.

I think things may be different this year.

One of the things that Baltimore did was to knock Smoke off his routes.  They are physical and grabby all the way down the field because they know it won't always be called.  I think (maybe I just hope) that Diggs and Davis are different players to try that against.

We left a TON of points on the field last time...Josh missed 3 or 4 wide open deep ball TDs early in the game

I'm not a betting man, but won't be surprised if Raven eventually become a slim favorite.

Definitely NOT the matchup I was hoping for.

What matchup was better in the second round of the playoffs? Steelers wouldve been nice but thats the reason why they lost to the browns lol titans indy and Cleveland are all worse matchups imo...Baltimore is very one dimensional and they like to play a lot of man defense

I'm watching a defense go on the road and hold the NFL rushing champ to 40 yards, and his team to a grand total of 209 yards. I'm watching a team that's won it's 6th straight game. No, there isn't a team in the league right now that would "handle them rather easily" and you just might find that out the hard way.

I think titans were a worse matchup for us than the ravens but thats just my opinion.  Our speed at linebacker should help us against Baltimore but the titans are a big physical team that would just run us over.  I think indy Ten and Cleveland are the worst matchups for us although Baltimore may be better than all three on paper.

If lamar is gonna drop dimes in between our zone coverage to his tight ends like rivers did against us we won't win though obviously lol

I don't disagree with anything mentioned in the OP.

But I would argue we knew a lot of this prior to yesterday's game, and the real failure was the offense being unable to get into a groove, moving down the field, and scoring touchdowns.  We did get to 27 at the end, which ain't bad, but this was not the offense we have seen for the last month +.  Of course, we were also playing a very solid team.

Don't rely on our D to win games!  The Offense has to put 30+ on the board and see which opponents can keep up.  That's how we are going to advance in the playoffs.

Too early for this, but in the off-season, No. 1 need on D is an edge rushing monster.  No. 1 need on Offense is a Rob Gronkowski type of TE, if we can find one.

The RB position probably needs upgrading, but I would not commit any serious assets to that pursuit.

Big body on D line and real Mike LB finalize our needs IMO, but not before edge rusher.

I think we're underestimating how difficult it is to move the ball when backed up to our own goal line because we have been doing it this season.  We had terrible starting field position the entire first half

Agreed, going into a playoff game it makes sense to use this more of an option than in the regular season.  However they made it a staple for no reason.  Passing the ball worked, they needed to stick with what got them here a little more.  A few runs, yes I'm good with that but there were a few too many.  Especially against a D that is fantastic vs the run and terrible vs the pass.

What I am about to say here is not Josh hate, I love what he has become, he has improved way more than I thought was possible but there is still room for improvement.  Josh tensed up in the 4th quarter and we saw some "bad Josh".   Earlier in the 4th he was throwing harder than normal, the ball that went through Brown's hands, the next to Beasley where there was good RAC opportunity but his bullet made him go to the ground to secure the catch.  We saw this a lot more in his first two years.  A lot of what has made him better this year is appropriate pace on the ball.  He wants to make a play on every play so when the defense puts him in a position where he is getting wrapped up he fights through, gets out and guess what, another guy shows up.  Sometimes you have to just take the sack.  Go back to the second half vs the Rams, they did this to him consistently, pressure up the middle and then there was a guy in his escape lane on the edge.   That is when bad things can happen.  On that down and distance, a sack was not the end of the world, a turnover is.  Having said all that, these types of plays happen way less frequently now and I think getting a win in a playoff game will help calm him down.  He can now build off the success of winning a playoff game.

I dont think he tensed up at all...he was trying to break a tackle to throw the ball away because he knew the offense likely needed a td to close out the game the way the defense was playing.  Taking a sack wouldve put them at a huge disadvantage.  You can't blame Josh for a ball going straight through a receivers hands like that either lol

In the context of the overall team's performance, even being VERY disappointed in Milano's performance yesterday is still pretty specific.  Not liking the thread title is fair, but a bit of a diversion.  Wording (or even hyperbole) aside, there's a legitimate concern.

If the Ravens and Browns win today, next week the Bills will be facing an even better running team with even better TE play than we saw yesterday.  The play of both of the LBs is a worry.  Edmunds made some good plays in coverage at least.  Milano really looked like he was struggling all game.  (and yeah, I'm assuming the blown coverage was on White, but that was hardly Milano's only coverage struggle)

I'm not convinced lamar and baker could throw the dimes rivers was throwing yesterday though. Dude was on fire dropping balls in between zone coverage...he played a nearly perfect game

Milano was one of the few defenders to consistently make plays.  Edmunds was awful again.

The Bills are soft in the front 7 and it has been evident most of the season.  Their best hope is to simply score early and often to force the opponent into abandoning the run game.

Edmunds missed a big tackle on 4th down on that final Colts drive and thats all I remember lol

Colts were man to man alot with 4 man dline.  Just like when Josh ran to the 5 yard line at the end of 1st half then finished the drive with a RPO rushing Td.

Colts were a very well coached defense and had good talent.  They ranked ahead of us on defense by most analytics.

Bottom line is our 1st half starting field position was horrid.  Cant scheme much when you start at your 5 or 10 yrd line

Right i think we were pretty conservative when backed up...if the Colts were holding up in man coverage then I would be less worried going forward since I don't think any other teams left in the playoffs can really do that to us

Reich credited his decision to go for it on 4th and goal from the 4 late in the 1st half and his decision to go for 2 that he didn't get from the 1 yard line after the Bills penalty to analytics...

This is why following analytics is such a tricky thing...small sample size. Yes, out of 100 times, you might be better off with analytics 65 of them but those other 35 are not going to work and in 1 or 2 situations a game, there aren't enough opportunities for analytics to make up the difference.

Analytics should be a tool but buyer beware on relying on it to win amy single game. Over the course of 10 years it might win you more games than it loses you but it also might get you fired in year 3 if enough of them don't work in your favor.

I'm sure he didn't expect us to march 96 yards down the field after going for it on that 4th and goal...I wonder how often that happens when you're backed up on your own goal line.

Well obviously field position in the 1st half hampered the offense.

Overall, I can't complain too much.  There were 2 drives that we could have tried to throw instead of run/use Josh as our RB.  But we overall played well offense, Davis with some huge catches but Josh took a bad sack then fumbled.

Colts have a solid team, solid defense.  They were a few plays from being 12-4 or 13-3.

I'm not giving the offense or Daboll an A rating, but they didn't turn it over and managed some long scoring drives.  its the playoffs, this was a solid effort vs a very talented/coached defense

Colts were doing something that daboll thought he could exploit with designed qb runs im curious what it was...Colts tackled so well though josh got stood up a few times in the open field...i can't say I've ever seen that before

Bills just didn't play well, the defense looked off all game. The offense thought they were a run first team for most of the game.

Wed have to wait for the all22 but I think those runs late in the 3rd/early 4th when we were up two scores completely surprised us.  If one of those Colts late td drives was 6 or so minutes instead of 2 that game is never that close down the stretch

I fear Ravens more than Chiefs rn... Ravens have been playing out of their minds recently... maybe even better than us. Just ran for 400 plus yards in week 17 and they have best point differential in the AFC. Just been destroying teams.

The ravens played a college schedule the last three weeks of the season...not to take anything away from them but something to keep in mind.  It was like bengals giants jaguars or something like that

I just don't see it that way. I thought he was down initially too, until I saw the replay. So I don't think it was a boneheaded call on the field.

All the boneheadedness and controversy occurred with the replay official.

Yea maybe its how I saw it in real time lol looked like an obvious fumble to me but im sure I was incredibly biased 🤣

  15. Just now, Buffalo Boy said:

Why??? Because the Bills fans were going to storm the field????

There was nothing controversial about getting the call right.

Controversial is not the word I shouldve used it was an obvious fumble...I think refs try not to effect the games too much down the stretch and it leads to absolute disasters like this and the non pi call in the rams saints game a few years back

    Well stated.

The Bills deserved to win the game because they had more points on the scoreboard at the end of the game.

But we, and the Bills, aren't fooled. They were fortunate to win against a team they were better than.

I fully expect this to launch the Bills to bigger and better things.

The Bills will be an absolute force from here on out.

I think we're a little too harsh on ourselves... have we never missed a fg or gotten stuffed on a 4th and goal play? If the Colts were down one score maybe we wouldve been less caught off guard by those big chunk running plays in the fourth quarter that led to the Colts 2 minute touchdown drives...you just never know.  Josh allen looked ready for the moment and carried his team to a win thats what we should be celebrating. Thats what a franchise qb does

They must do it on purpose for whatever reason. There's no explanation. They didn't care who won and maybe they just wanted to increase the chances that the game would go to overtime.

It wasn't controversial. It was obvious to everyone, even non-Bills fans.

Once they make that boneheaded call on the field that he was down it kind of becomes controversial as far as the game being decided by refs goes but im right there with ya...looked plenty obvious to me
