Literally everyone would want a gronk tight end but he was one of one.

The name drops are kind of skewing the debate a bit lol I feel like the question is would you rather have a TE that’s an excellent pass catcher/route runner and an ok blocker vs a TE that’s a good pass catcher and good blocker.  For this bills roster and how it sounds like the bills are going to use him, pass catching is vastly more important than blocking.

Gronk was a freak that could do it all like you said and his only hangup was staying healthy.  So gesicki style vs Gronk style is hugely misleading.

the scheme change Miami made under McDaniel didn’t really suit gesicki but that doesn’t mean a player of that mold can’t be the focal point of a different offensive scheme

    I said he was Gesicki

A better mike gesicki on a rookie contract is probably exactly what a team like the bills is looking for who have well documented red zone/short yardage struggles.  I don’t think Mayer was even on the bills/cowboys radar.

the only possibly way someone could even begin to see Mayer as better is factoring in his blocking which is not very important for the role Kincaid was drafted to fill

Who’s better overall isn’t even really an important question as teams can both draft a TE or wr and use them in vastly different ways

So a million and one other people, all more relevant and visible than you liked Breece Hall last year too as the top RB but you’re gonna go ahead and claim that as a dub huh?

    Again, peak delusion.

Haha yea I thought I misread what he was saying at first …like if he ends up going completely against the grain saying Kincaid isn’t going to be as good as Mayer before even knowing the situation Mayer lands in and is right…that would be something to add to the resume.

but breece hall being better than James cook was not a very bold prediction at the time and on top of that it may not even be correct going forward lol cook was on fire down the stretch and breece hall is now coming back from a serious injury

I had Hall as 1A and Cook as 1B . I even said Cook was my consolation prize and knew he’d be ok, but not as good as Hall.

a bit of a different scenario there though…breece hall was gone for like 30 picks when the bills picked cook and he certainly hasn’t outperformed cook so far so it was not worthy of a trade up by any means at this way too early point to be evaluating lol

not to mention you were with consensus of the nfl gms and analysts on hall vs cook but you are against them in Kincaid vs Mayer so we’ll see 😁 very different situation

I wouldn’t expect Beane to know a good player if it was in front of him anyways outside of Allen. I’m on record saying Mayer > Kincaid , let’s revisit later. Just like with the Hall and Woolen picks looking good.

Idk the full story here lol. Were you saying breece hall would be better than James cook last year  or something? James cook went off down the stretch last year I’d say the jury is still very much out on that one.

those guys went 1-2 in the ypc metric funny enough

Oh the draft genius is here! And he’s disappointed. And a ND fan. Not surprised

That genuinely perplexes me haha cuz Mayer is a lot closer to ‘another Dawson Knox’ than Kincaid is as far as prototype goes.  I’m curious if we would’ve even scooped up Mayer if Kincaid was gone…I’m thinking no but we’ll never truly know

cowboys were in that exact position and didn’t pull the trigger

400-500 yards is being very generous.  Knox past 2 seasons he posted 587 and 517 yard totals.

I don’t see how knox is really limiting Kincaids opportunities at all…I think he’s easily going over 500. Knox got pigeon holed into a blocking role a lot…Kincaid won’t be used that way.

seems like we were hoping to be able to run a lot more 12 personnel with oj Howard last year but he just didn’t work out

They drafted Dawson Knox again basically

They are nowhere near the same type of player before even having to get into a talent discussion lol and even if they did just draft a better Dawson Knox…so what?  We were a mess in the red zone and on 3rd/4th and shorts all year last year.

I don’t think a 5’9” wr is anything close to what we needed.

    Screwing the Dolphins/Jets/Patriots.

Jets and patriots seem to be screwing themselves potentially lol. Someone like josh Allen or mahomes can overcome a shoddy offensive line but I don’t think pushing 40 years old aaron rodgers has got the juice…they’re not really loaded up on offensive skill position talent either.  Aarons pretty much in the same situation on the offensive side that he was in the first half of the season with gb last year before they got their OL sorted.  Better defense but also more competitive teams to deal with.

really weird first pick for the jets

Pats made a pretty good pick but clearly the Steelers saw something with Gonzalez that they didn’t like so I guess we’re gonna see who’s right. They’re still playing catch-up from a dreadful round 1 last year though

Honestly he wasn’t really on my radar. But I’m quickly warming up to the pick. I get the mismatches, can see how good his receiving ability is, and like that they took an offensive playmaker.

Don’t really see the Beasley/Slot comparisons. Just such different players. Kincaid isn’t getting open as quickly, but he’s going to catch the contested throws and then push for a few more yards.

    Overall I like the pick.

Cant find his RAS - anyone have luck?

The Beasley comparison makes sense to me given the context…if we go 12 personnel with Knox/Kincaid I don’t think you could possibly defend us in a base defense without creating a huge mismatch.

that could help out the run game a lot as well as knox , who has been getting pooped on in this thread 😂, is a pretty solid run blocker

A slot weapon was not a need pick?  Are you serious?

The takes are wild lol…bills had wildly inconsistent slot receiver play and struggled mightily in the red zone.  I know a position group that could kill both those birds with one stone…..lol

I think people are just very close minded with what responsibilities different positions have. Sure he’s a TE on paper but they could line him up at any wr position based on his skill set.

Again... I love Knox.. I really do... But this guy is at another level and may be #1 week 1. What some do not understand is, the things you can do with Knox and Kincaid on the field at the same time.

So weird that a fanbase that watched a full season of red zone struggles would even complain about drafting a good tight end let alone the best one

It makes me sick that people out there, not happy with this pick... I like Knox! i really do! but this will be a TRUE #1 TE

We been waiting for an elite TE for so long..

It makes me confused that people are upset we didn’t get a big target wr but we essentially did get a big target wr and they’re complaining about the pick 😂

Not big on it. He pretty much the same player as Knox. This pick could end Beane / McDermott

I’m all for people feeling skeptical but he objectively isn’t even remotely close to the same type of player as Knox lol

kincaid excels at finding space underneath which is an area where Dawson Knox struggles and he has ridiculous hands.  Knox is more of a combo tight end that can stretch the field some.  They complement eachother pretty much perfectly if you’re gonna run two TE sets…I think Kincaid will play a lot of slot wr though

We are an offense that doesn’t use TEs. When Knox got his new contract I said it would be a bargain if his usage increased a lot but it didn’t. Same applies here. Could be a great pick if Dorsey has a plan on how he wants to use him and get him the ball. If we just go through the motions with him like we do a lot of other players then it becomes a head scratcher.

I imagine Dorsey asked for this so hopefully he can get creative with 2 TE sets.

Kincaid is a lot more versatile than simply labeling him a ‘TE’…he’s a much more gifted pass catcher/route runner than Knox. He could line up in the slot every play and never play ‘true’ tight end and he still provides a lot more value than anyone in that late run on wrs would have.

    Yep

and making the playoffs isn’t the end goal

with a QB like Allen, super bowls need to be the goal.. Allen played the game of his life and Sean and his staff still lost, beane has shown nothing really as a drafter… he hit allen but how many busts do we have counting in the first and second rounds since?

I feel like beane’s drafting success rate is comparable to the gms of the other contenders.  There aren’t a lot of sure things when your first pick is late in the first.  I think we got one today though

That's my only concern with him and why I think Meyer may have been the better fit for the Bills.

I hope we just didn't draft Mike Gesicki.  I'll be  cheering him on until he gives me reason not to.

Big target with a slot receiver skill set could help a lot in the receiving game if the offensive line struggles also imo.

    Pay Knox a big contract

    don’t use him

trade up for a guy we could have probably gotten at 27 or Mayer there

absolutely an F tonight from beane….. needed help at receiver or RT, fail

There’s no shot the cowboys weren’t taking Kincaid if he was available.

    Dalton Kincaid TE, UTAH

    Height: 6-4, Weight: 246

This is a strange pick when you consider they have Dawson Knox and have a few more pressing needs. Kincaid is a good player, but the position doesn’t make sense and they traded up to get him.(Pete Prisco)

    Rating: C

Someone’s gotta tell Pete you can have two tight ends on the field at the same time lol they went offensive bpa

Really beginning to question Beane’s ability to add impactful players on offense. Look at the weapons Cinncy, Balt, KC, MIA, Jets, etc have compared to us. It’s alarming! An average OL, RB, and TE with only one true playmaker besides Josh. And we wonder why we can’t break thru in the playoffs.

Cincy had to absolutely bottom out to pull that off…so did the jets. Miami had to mortgage their future on tyreek who’s gonna hit the declining years pretty soon.

    Yep.

Difference is that Favre didn’t go to a Jets team with a great RB, exciting young WR, and best defense in the NFL.

Favre went to a jets team with one of the best offensive lines in football though…multiple pro bowlers and a should be hall of famer.

the current jets are very much not that on the OL.  If they hold up there they could be great but there’s a pretty decent  chance we see early last season Aaron rodgers/packers offense

It appears that Green Bay officially doesn’t think he is worth the trouble anymore…,

They got a lot for a guy that was clearly not gonna play for the packers regardless…rodgers injury aside they’re getting two seconds and a better first.
