A lot of people are missing the boat here and want to act like the only value of the pick is what it can be traded for. The Bills have the worst backup QB in the league. The idea would be to improve the backup spot first. If you can then get a draft haul for him down the line, so much the better. The reality is that only a few coaches/organizations have proven to be developers of QBs. Andy Reid developed McNabb. Then he drafted and made Kolb look competent before fleecing the Cardinals. Then he managed to get the best out of Vick. Then he turned Alex Smith into a franchise QB. Then he drafted Mahomes and turned him into the MVP a year later. If Reid drafts a backup this season, there’s a pretty good chance that someone will want him in a couple years. Reid has the bandwidth to work with a project QB, as Mahomes is past that part of the process. I don’t see McBeane being able to pull of something like this yet. They don’t have a reputation of being QB gurus, so teams are less likely to covet the backup QB of a coach who is more of a defensive minded guy. They are also still working on developing their current project QB, so it’s unlikely that they currently have the ability to take on a new project. Now if Josh breaks out and becomes a bonafide star, the equation could change. The Bills could take a late round flyer in 2021 who is heavy on tools but lacking in production and develop him. If he shows out in preseason or has a couple of nice games in backup duty, QB needy teams may prefer to pay for a 25 year old who has already had a few years to develop and could be ready to go rather than try to take their chances on a 22 year old who may or may not be ready in three years.

If he had the exact same current numbers but had done so while playing in Buffalo the entire time, he would be 6th in franchise history for receiving TDs and 8th in yards...and he’s still only 26. He’s very likely to end his career with more career yards and TDs than any Bills WR in history not named Andre Reed. Unless the Bills have never had a #1 or #2 WR other than Reed, Watkins is a better player than he gets credit for on here. He hasn’t lived up to his draft position, but most top 10 picks don’t. He’s pacing for a career of around 600 catches, 9,000 yards, and 60 TDs. That’s basically Eric Moulds.

You completely ignored the question. In one post, you said that his actions make it less likely that he will be traded. When I called you on it, you then said you expected him to be traded. Now you’re saying they hold all the cards and he can sit out and come back a shell of himself. I’m telling you that none of these things will happen. He’s going to be traded, and it’s going to be because of his refusal to sit quietly back and let other people tell him who he has to work for and what the terms will be.
-
Then why did you just say he’s making it less likely that they trade him? We both know that’s not true. The Jaguars have proven that they are an inept organization that won’t bargain in good faith with their players. Yannick tried to play nice, and it got him nowhere. Now he’s left having to make a heel turn in order to get out. It worked for Ramsey. It worked for Fowler. It’s going to work for Yannick. Nobody is going to want to play for Jacksonville. They’re a garbage employer.
-
The team exercised their choices to the detriment of their employee, and Yannick is exercising his choice to call them on it.

Want to bet that he’s not a Jaguar next season? What’s the bet that he’s not a Jaguar next season?
-
Any guesses as to what the Bills record would have been if they had allowed 500 points on the season? I’m thinking not good enough to make the playoffs.
-
Maybe...just maybe it’s the front office and not the players. (Don’t forget Dante Fowler, btw). Not sure what it is about sports that makes people lose all perspective but any other business that has its employees leaving in droves would be recognized as having serious internal issues. For some reason, people want to blame the employees when a football team is so poorly mismanaged that players refuse to play for them. It makes no sense.

If he can’t make the pile of garbage that Jax calls a roster, why would anyone want him in Buffalo?
-
How is the owner 100% right? When every decent player in the organization wants out, the common denominator is the team. YN tried doing it the “right way” and it got him nothing. Now his only option is to follow the Fowler and Ramsey model and throw a tantrum, and it’s going to work. In the end, Yannick will not be in Jax next year, and no quality FAs are going to touch the Jaguars with a 10 foot pole.

Dolphins won 5 games last year when they had no business winning any (and would have won against the Bills week 1 of their kicker didn’t miss everything). 4 of those 5 wins were due to game winning drives by Fitzpatrick.

Darnold: 22 in 846 career passes Allen: 21 in 649 career passes

I like Moss a lot, though his lack of speed is problematic. RBs really need to be able to take it the distance if they get a seam. It’s so hard to pop one that getting 12 yards and a first down instead of 65 yards and a touchdown makes a huge difference. Either way, McBeane has to draft or sign a back who can score and get tough yards. The Bills return a total of 2 rushing TDs at the RB spot. Continuing to rely on Josh to get those yards is asking for a disaster...which brings up another point. A backup QB is a necessity.

It’s pretty much a coin flip between the two at this point. Amazing how young Sam still is. He’s more than a year younger than Josh and seven months younger than Burrow.

What's a unique/hot draft take that you hold to?

Jimmy and Jacoby barely played in NE during the regular season, but they showed out in preseason. Gordon could do the same. I think he could be a great pick for the Bills who have the worst backup QB situation in the NFL, but I’m not sure McDermott, Daboll, and Allen make for an ideal situation to maximize Gordon’s talent. Reid is the perfect coach for Gordon, and he could learn a lot from studying under Pat. Plenty of teams need franchise QBs that are plug and play because they don’t know how to develop QBs. Now that Mahomes is beyond the developmental stage, I think Reid would be well served to always have someone in the pipeline as an investment QB. If Allen gets to that point, McBeane might consider doing the same. I’m not sure they have the bandwidth to do that now given Josh’s situation. -

No. Kansas City needs a backup, and Gordon looks like diet Mahomes to me. Andy Reid has a history of turning project QBs into high draft picks, so this makes a ton of sense IMO. -

The Chiefs will draft Anthony Gordon at the end of the fourth round, groom him to be Mahomes’s backup, and eventually trade him for a first round pick. -
Has Clowney already agreed to a deal with the Titans?

Tannehill didn’t do anything that isn’t sustainable. He threw for 228 YPG and relied on short passes and downfield shots off of play action. They have a solid defense that will only get better if Clooney signs, and that allows them to play ball control offense to sit on leads and shorten games. It’s a solid formula that has stood the test of time in the NFL. This type of team consistently makes the playoffs, often wins divisions, but rarely wins championships. If you think the team that won against KC, at Houston, at New England, and at Baltimore all in the second half of the season plus postseason is suddenly going to become mediocre, I think you’re in for disappointment. -

What makes you say that? They were terrible to start the season. They were Super Bowl caliber by the end of the year. There’s a good chance Henry gets injured due to his workload, but otherwise they’re not taking a big step back from 9-7. You think they’re a 6 win team? I’m not seeing it. -

Tannehill has always been a better player than he’s given credit for. He’s a decent player when he’s playing for a competent organization. Tannehill could pull an Alex Smith and be a guy who gets traded to a team that’s a better fit for him and wins a ton of games even though he never wows anyone. I think the same about Andy Dalton but to a lesser extent. If BB wants a veteran starter, Dalton could do some things there. -
Rosenthal: True QB value rankings from 1-35
Billl replied to chris heff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mahomes deserved the MVP for sure. In addition to his 3 TDs, he threw what should have been another easy one, but Williams ran a bad route and couldn’t find the ball. He also had 44 yards rushing on 6 carries for 330 yards of total offense. If Mahomes didn’t get it, it should have gone to Chris Jones who got his hands on about 5 passes in the 4th quarter. The guy is special. Even his “bad” games are great. -
A Compilation of Some of Josh's Bad? Throws

So we should chalk that one up to poor protection? OL let him down? -

He’s literally said he’d rather be good at playing football than bad at playing football. What more do you need?
