I'll split the difference. I consider Dion one of the pillars of this team. I don't consider Morse one.

Yeah, I’m not sure the details of his new extension, but they could draft a player to groom as a Morse replacement this year.

    A) the Bills board might not be the same as “analysts”.  Their top 3 could include someone who is 5th or 6th in current mocks.

    B) if they reach tier 2 of CBS and a tier 1 WR is there, I think they go WR and trade up to get a Tier 2 CB earlier in round 2.

    C) they’ve show they’re willing to trade up to get “their guy”.  It worked for Allen, failed for Ford and is TBD on Edmunds.

They also have 8 picks and a deep roster, I’d be surprised if more than 6 stuck with the team. Last year 2 players drafted got poached off the practice squad, don’t think Beane wants to waste assets like that again.

He did struggle mightily in the senior bowl practices and I agree he isn't their kind of RAS profile. But their holes at the moment are RG and CB2. I am not sure they can get out of the first two rounds with either addressed.

Do you actually have Kinnard graded higher than Cole Strange? He fits the Bills profile with the high RAS. I would want him over Kinnard, personally.

Kinda sickens me to say it, but... it's hard to argue against Mac & Cheese being the best rookie QB last season. He got them to the playoffs, which really makes him look like a bullseye draft pick.

Trevor Lawrence is way better, and it will show now that Urban Meyer is gone. Mac will always be held back by his lack of physical traits. The Pats D got them to the playoffs, Mac was just asked to not turn the ball over.

I'd like to respectfully suggest that Josh should recognize that it's not his area of expertise to evaluate OL play - both on the Bills and around the league - or to value the contracts due players.

I agree with the 2nd part about the contacts, but I think Josh would even evaluate that the OL play in front of him was not very good in general, after all, he was the one running from their missed blocks all the time.

He was getting worked late in the season and in the playoffs at RT.

Yes Brown wasn’t very good last year. I’d invest a 2nd round pick in another tackle who they can plug in at guard if Brown beats him out. I like Raimann and Tyler Smith. Both could end up going anywhere from late 1st to late 2nd.

Restructure other contracts you mean? I would release Matakevich. They have to have room first to match if it’s front loaded. We’ll see.

Do you have data on that? I felt the line was much better the last quarter of the season and in the playoffs. Spencer Brown seemed to be the weakest link at the end of the season.

Yes, fantasy pros, 22 pressures in the last 3 weeks. I mean let’s not forget the stinker Josh had against Atlanta where he posted the lowest QB rating of his career at 17.0.

Josh should call Beane and tell him to match it! He knows how good he is! Just look at last year‘s games when he came in. I worry about the team‘s chemistry a lot of new pieces this year.

Josh was the most pressured QB last season, including the 4 games in which Bates started. I think Josh should call Beane and say to get him a better oline in general.

  9. Diggs won’t get a Hill like return, I also don’t think a team would give him the amount of money the Dolphins gave Hill or the Raiders gave Adams. He also seems like a reasonable person who wants to win and loves playing with Josh, I’d be fine with like a 3/60 extension give or take a few dollars. Salary cap is going to explode the next few years so money won’t be an issue at that price.

Because you get that one extra year out of him at a reasonable price. Hell, you could even franchise tag him for a reasonable price for a year or 2.

RBs get up to speed in the nfl quicker than almost any position. Therefore you are getting them at their primes almost on their rookie deals. The life expectancy of a RB in the league is lowest of every position. More of a reason to take a young rookie and ride him out. Rinse/repeat.

The life expectancy is the lowest of every position, you just keep giving more reasons to not select a running back in the first round.

I think they should probably take two corners in the draft, but maybe more like round 1 and round 5.

    17 minutes ago, mrags said:

I bet the Colts are wishing they took Taylor in the 1st round so they could get him with the 5th year option instead of having the decision of letting him walk or signing him to a contract worth more than $16m a year like McCaffrey is going to make. Or Elliot or Kamara making more than $15m.

So what would happen after the 5th year option for Taylor if they had it? Would they just let him walk after 5 years and then draft a new RB? Because if you don’t want to pay the running back once his contract is up, why waste high draft assets on him instead of a corner/Edge/OT/WR you would plan on resigning?

  12. 7 minutes ago, mrags said:

This is exactly one of my arguments for getting a RB in the draft. Even more so with the 1st round. You have the ability to sign to the 5th year option. This year Barkley is on the 5th year option and only costing about 7m. Here’s a breakdown of 5th year options prices for each position currently.

Fifth-year option salaries for players who achieve playtime criterion

    Quarterback | $22.4 million

    Running Back | $5.7 million

    Wide Receiver | $13.4 million

    Tight End | $6.9 million

    Offensive Lineman | $13.2 million

    Defensive End | $12.4 million

    Defensive Tackle | $10.8 million

    Linebacker | $11.7 million

    Cornerback | $12.0 million

    Safety | $7.9 million

    Special Teams | $3.9 million

it actually makes sense to draft a 1st round RB because the potential for that player being the best at their position in the draft is greater than almost any other position. And with RBs you have the chances of a rookie coming in right away and being a difference maker is greater than almost any position as they have the smallest learning curve. This way you get the most out of the position in the first 4-5 years and can rinse/repeat. It’s much easier to replace that RB than it is to replace a OL or WR or CB. Which is why, when you get a true starter at one of those positions, you resign them. Like White, Dawkins, Diggs, Davis, etc. One of my bigger issues with Singletary at this point. Unless he’s signing a new contract for league minimum, does anyone really want to pay him? I mean it’s not my money, but if he wants a raise he can go as far as I’m concerned. Sucks that Moss hasn’t done anything to relieve the stress of losing Singletary. He’s been even more unforgettable.

Not a terrible idea. Because you have holes and the position is deep. You could possibly walk away with 2 starters. Problem is, what happens when White comes back? Someone that has ability to start is sitting on the bench picking their nose. Probably better to try and fill starting spots at multiple positions.

The top 5 rushing leaders last season, 4 of the 5 were drafted in the 2nd round. Because most teams go with premium positions in the 1st round.

  13. 11 minutes ago, mrags said:

I agree with this 100%. Chances of us trading Diggs this season are almost 0%. If anything, if they are unable to lock him up long term before the season starts; you may see him traded next offseason. Assuming Davis has a huge breakout year. Assuming you possibly draft a Diggs replacement with a 1-3rd pick.

I want Diggs to retire in a Bills Jersey. But if he’s going to demand the kind of paydays that Hill or Adams just hit, then he can go.

I would love it if Diggs took something like 3 years 54-63 million dollar extension. With the salary cap going up a lot in the next few years, he might expect a little more. Diggs seems to be big on winning, but still needs to be paid a fair amount he is cool with.

2021 - Rams had 2 running backs and a 3rd play in the playoffs - Bengals had Mixon

2020 - Bucs had jones and fournette, Chiefs had CEH, Bell, and Williams

2019 - Chiefs had Williams, Mccoy, William - 49ers had Coleman, Mostert, Brieda

2018 - Patriots had MIchel, White, Burckhead - Rams had Gurley

2017 - Patriots had Lewis, Gillislee, Burkhead, White - Eagles had Blount, Clement, Ajayi

If recency has anything to do with it... which i think it should as bell cow running backs have become far less popular.  It seems like you almost don't want one to get to the super bowl.

I agree. Get a CB or WR with the first round pick. RB by committee approaches work well because most of the backs have different skill sets that compliment each other’s. I think the Bills should look to add a speed back in round 4 or 5 to go with Singletary between the tackles and Duke pass catching back. I guess you could consider Moss the power back even though I personally think he’s useless.

the following super winners since 1999 all disagree with you.

2000 Ravens with Jamal Lewis, 1,300+ yards, 6TDs

2001 Patriots with Antwon Smith, 1,100+ yards, 12TDs

2004 Patriots with Corey Dillon, 1,600+ yards, 12TDs

2005 Steelers with Willie Parker, 1,200+ yards

2012 Ravens with Ray Rice, 1,100+ yards, 9TDs

2013 Seahawks with Marshawn Lynch, 1,200+ yards, 12TDs

2016 Patriots with Legarrette Blount, 1,100+ yards, 18TDs

Then there’s other super winners that had respectable 1,000+ yard seasons with their RBs. And anyone that wants to argue that nothing is special about a 1,000 yard season, needs to look directly at Devin Singletary and how he has never had a 1,000 yard season.

2006 Colts had 1,000+ with Addai

2007 Giants had 1,000+ with Jacobs

Then there’s the teams that lost the Super Bowls in those years as well. I’ve already done enough work to make my point but off the top of my head the following teams were all run heavy. All had over 1,000+ yard rushers.

    1999 Titans

    2000 Giants

    2001 Rams

    2003 Panthers

    2005 Seahawks

    2006 Bears

    2010 Steelers

    2012 49ers

    2013 Broncos

    2014 Seahawks

    2016 Falcons

    2018 Rams

    2021 Bengals

Okay? I said first team all pro, which none of the players you listed were. In fact, none of them even made 2nd team all pro the year they won the super bowl. So you still didn’t make your point.
