since you brought it up, I'll have to re-visit the roster spots. Certainly doesn't feel to me like there's more than 6 or so spots that could be made. Although punter is a bonus.

Number 3 tight end, one, maybe two IOL spots. Number 4 or 5 wide receiver, could always use more Dline, backup MLB, 1 or 2 CB’s, safety to replace Poyer next year, punter. Competition is a great thing to have on an NFL roster.

Dane is fine as a #2. Yet we're weak at outside CB depth and with Tre's availability in question understand thought process wanting one earlier. Heck last season I was hoping we'd get Eric Stokes in Round 1.

I believe they would have taken Stokes had Green Bay not scooped him up the pick before.

Yeah there are definitely similarities in their game. Some scouting people like him more. Smith plays with way more power and plays downhill. He is not nearly as raw as Maine was coming out. I have no problem with the process by which they identified Edmunds as the type of backer they want. They wanted a fast, long powerful backer with crazy upside. Hasn’t quite worked out with Maine 100%, and I like him a lot. Just not sure you pay him.

Taking Smith pushes the reset button on the position, gets a very similar prospect with what I think is a higher upside on a rookie contract. I like Troy Andersen. I know people like Andersen, but he is very raw imo. I like Leo Chenal a lot but he doesn’t have that length they seem to want. But Smith is the closest thing to type of linebacker they seem to want, and he was coached the last three years by McDermott guy  Brent Pry. They met with him at the combine, were at his pro day, and now working him out. It makes sense to me.

If they got linebacker as high as round 2 or 3, I really like Channing Tindell. Wasn’t able to start behind Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker at Georgia but he absolutely flies to the ball. And he played 4 phases on special teams which we know McD loves in his guys.

His scouting report according to Lance Zierlein sounds eerily similar to a current Bills linebacker…

”Linebacker who is likely to test better than he plays at the next level. Smith possesses five-star traits and is extremely athletic, but those traits tend to go to waste on tape. There is a consistent lack of fundamentals that leave him out of position or blocked on too many plays. He lacks decisiveness and an aggressive demeanor that are fundamental in becoming an NFL linebacker.”

I know Breece Hall is an athletic freak.  Singletary looks like a faster player.  I dont think Breece Hall’s athleticism shows up watching him play.  I think Walker is the only guy worth taking at 25.  He plays as fast as his 40.  He also is better at making defenders miss tackles.

Walker at 57 would be cool if he’s there. I personally don’t value RB’s enough to think they should warrant a first round pick.

This is a fair take. I respect it. If people don’t value Hall as an elite RB, that is fine. But I firmly believe this team is an elite RB away from winning multiple Super Bowls.

It is true, that an elite RB by themselves will not win you Super Bowls, which I agree with posters who have already stated as such, but I believe this team is different and it needs one.

Allen is beyond elite, and having an elite RB will force teams from playing high shell. It makes Allen infinitely more dangerous. Having an elite RB doesn’t mean we have to take the ball out of Allen’s hands. It just means we have that extra piece to keep defenses honest. It’s an almost impossible task given how good Allen is. It’s what we need. It’s what will get us a Lombardi. Just my opinion though.

How “elite” is Hall or any running back going to be behind our below average run blocking offensive line? Hard to be an elite running back when you’re running into your own offensive line cuz they can’t open up holes.

  7. This is starting to get irritating seeing NFL players do this if it is indeed contract related. You signed a contract, why should you be able to try and change the terms of the contract that YOU signed by holding out? If you think you’ll be worth more in a few years, negotiate a contract for less years. Anyone in the real world who signs a contract has to live up to it or they get fired. I get it’s different but the sense of entitlement these guys have is annoying.

Prior to this year I would agree about is work ethic but he changed that based on working to get back from his ACL injury.  With that said as a lifelong Dawgs fan and having watched Pickens since his first year I would be SHOCKED if Buffalo drafted him.  As you mentioned he doesn't fit the Bills culturally.  He has shown a pattern to be immature.  The kid has all the talent in the world but can be very immature.  IF he ever matures he will be very good in the NFL it just won't be in Buffalo.

This whole culture thing is a bothersome argument. If he is the highest player on their board, they need to take him. He’s just a kid, and if they believe their culture is that strong, they should have no problem integrating an immature kid and having him be successful in Buffalo. I don’t care if the Bills players are choir boys or even nice guys, I want guys who help them win football games.

If Dawkins is sliding anywhere it would be to RT if they got a true stalwart LT

They aren't moving their LT they just paid to Guard... Besides you don't move a top 10 LT to guard

While I agree I don’t think they would move Dawkins from LT to guard, I think people are using that line of thought since they couldn’t move Brown inside to guard. I mean I guess they could, I’ve never seen a 6-7 guard, but that would be a massive oline. Josh wouldn’t  have much trouble throwing over them either since he is 6-5 at least.

He was a Pro Bowl Guard last season. He was signed to start. When Beane said this, he was also surely referring to Ryan Bates and Ike Boettger also being FA's, so they'd have to be retained or replaced. We retained both. Bates was signed to an offer sheet to the Bears which would have saw him start. I highly doubt we matched the multi-million dollar offer for any less of an opportunity. In Dawkins, Saffold, Morse, Bates, and Brown - our starting line is set for this season, regardless of how you feel about Saffold or Bates.

Bringing in Aaron Kromer, who is widely considered one of the best coaches for the Offensive Line in the entire league was also a move that should be looked at as a move to help protect Josh Allen.

We also signed Greg Mancz who has 32 starts in his career as well as 4 just last season to be depth at Interior Offensive Line. Also brought back Bobby Hart. Granted, most fans aren't, well, a fan. But obviously Beane and McDermott see something in him because he just won't go away.

Long story short, we have done more than just Saffold. He's made a lot of moves on the Offensive Line this offseason. Probably more than any other position. And Tommy Doyle is entering Year 2 and I think they'd like to see if Aaron Kromer can revitalize Cody Ford's career, given the premium pick we selected at in 2019.

Whether you like the moves or not, he has his starting O-Line for this season. I could see some mid round picks for depth and developmental. But I'd be shocked to see a Lineman selected in Round 1.

When I heard “protecting Josh will be our number 1 priority this off season,” I don’t think he was referring to Ike Boettger at all. He will be lucky to make the final roster after they draft a guy or two and UDFA. Bates will start, but I’m not sold on him as a starting RG due to him only having a handful of starts in his career. And Spencer Brown was downright awful in pass protection last season, which relates to protecting Josh since the Bills are a passing team. Saffold is a one year stop gap at left guard. While I hope the new line works out, I don’t think it was addressed as much as I was anticipating.

My issue with Pickens is the one thing Beane and McDermott have been preaching all offseason is needing speed. I think that's what we're looking for in a WR addition in the Draft. Pickens runs 4.47, which isn't slow - but it's not exceptionally fast either.

I think our WR board would have guys like Garrett Wilson, Jameson Williams, Chris Olave, Jahan Dotson, Christian Watson, Skyy Moore, Alec Pierce, Calvin Austin III, Velus Jones Jr., Bo Melton, and Tyquan Thornton, in that order. 4.42 being the cut off point (in Dotson), and preferably faster than that.

Beane also said the priority this off season was going to be protecting Josh. And all he did was sign Rodger Saffold, who is better as a run blocker.

Yea. They’ll be a solid team… until January when Ryan’s gotta travel outdoors… Although he did put up a gritty performance against us with a lackluster Falcons roster last season.

Think that had more to do with Josh having the worst statistical passing game of his career. And that taunting penalty Ryan got on a TD that got called back didn’t help his case. I laughed so hard when that happened and it was 4th down and they didn’t convert.

Not with CBs. They don't care about elite athleticism. They want length and instincts and technique. Woolen doesn't have great instincts and currently well below average technique. I'll be shocked if we draft him in the first 3 rounds.

Definitely with the zone scheme they play they don’t need an elite guy who can lock down the other teams number 1. I like Kyler Gordon a lot, think he is definitely more athletic than his 40 time at the combine (especially with his pro day jump numbers). I think he would be a perfect fit in the Bills zone scheme, would probably require a trade up in the 2nd round. Woolen has way too much bust potential for my liking despite his insane athleticism.

Meh, whatever. I never thought he was coming back to Buffalo. I think there are other veteran corners available who are a better fit anyway.

I didn’t either, but we’re getting down to Haden, Rhodes, Fuller for vet CB’s. Anyone know much about Kevin King? He was once a high draft pick, is still young and had a really good year back in 2019.
