Happy for Motor. 30 touches and 150yards vs. Cincy today. Thought the Bills didn’t view him as an every down back?? Still upset the Bills shut him down towards the end of last season to play James Cook. Great job today Motor!! A Rookie QB and a ex Bills RB went into Cincy and did what the Bills couldn’t. Embarrassing

Absolutely happy for him as well. Way to recognize, even though I am a bigger fan of Cook’s game.

Graham: Remember when the Buffalo Bills used to have fun?

Once among the NFL’s most entertaining clubs, the Bills have become a primetime bore. Last year, they averaged 31 points while going undefeated in five night games. The Bills enter Monday night’s matchup against the Denver Broncos with a 2-2 primetime record and averaging 18 points.

You can’t fake fun, and Buffalo’s just not having it.

Remember those F-you plays? Showing up the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense right after their “Renegade” hype song? Throwing a touchdown pass to rookie backup tackle Tommy Doyle while already beating the New England Patriots by 30 in the fourth quarter? John Brown and Cole Beasley chucking touchdowns, Josh Allen catching them? Defensive tackle Kyle Williams getting touches? Isaiah McKenzie capering about?

Buffalo used to exude confidence. It was cocksure, defiant, downright giddy in their dominance.

    All that’s gone lately.

    -------

“A lack of big plays has taken some of the energy out of it,” Davis admitted.

Chunk plays are fun. So, too, are trick plays.

The Bills don’t do those anymore either.

In the 27 games Ken Dorsey has been offensive coordinator, no one other than a quarterback has attempted a pass, and no one other than a running back, receiver or tight end has caught.

Under Daboll, non-quarterbacks completed six of eight passes for 104 yards and four touchdowns — not counting special teams chicanery. Brown threw two touchdowns, Beasley and McKenzie one apiece.

Non-skill players under Daboll caught six of eight targets for 46 yards and five touchdowns. Left tackle Dion Dawkins has two career TD receptions.

The universe smiles upon fat guy touchdowns.

    -------

“Of course, there’s the fun factor of it,” Mitchell Schwartz, the Chiefs’ former All-Pro right tackle, once told The Athletic for a story about the power of unusual plays, “but mentally knowing your coach is going to listen to you, find ways to let you do things you normally don’t get to, not succumb to monotony and make sure guys are having fun and engaged, that mentality goes beyond just a single play here or there.

“It really bleeds down into the overall work environment, and everyone feels more engaged.”

A pretty interesting read for The Athletic subscribers basically summarizing what most of us see - that the offense exudes all the swagger and fun of someone who is about to get audited by the IRS.

I’m no fashionista but the latest crop of official NFL Bills gear is by far the worst I’ve seen in a while. Not just the ungodly hats with sectioned off NFL logo for no reason, but the off color shirts that look like they were put in the laundry with bleach on accident. But if i’m way off and you’re into that, it’s a pre black friday sale going on at the Bflostore

    http://bufbills.co/49rQopD

Update: these terrible hats aren't on the store upon further review

Those may not be in the store but your general observation is correct - NewEra has fallen off a cliff in recent years. I don’t know if they’ve just run out of ideas or if they’re letting AI design hats to save money, but most things out of them are putrid recently.

One of my frustrations with the NFL, is the refusal to recognize championships from before Super Bowl I occurred.

Professional football in the NFL goes back to 1920.  Not 1967.

Here are some facts that not everyone may know:

The Green Bay Packers have actually won more championships (13 overall) than both the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers combined.

The Chicago Bears have the second-most championships (9) out of anyone in the NFL.

Several teams who have never won a Super Bowl, have actually won multiple championships before that era began.  They include the Cleveland Browns (4), Detroit Lions (4), Buffalo Bills (2) and Tennessee Titans/Houston Oilers (2).  As a fan of the Bills, I know the frustration that exists over never hoisting the Lombardi Trophy and awful feeling like they will never get it done.  I often wonder if some of that could be alleviated if the NFL would just acknowledge more than 56 years of league history.

The Bills last championship was in 1965.  They have two overall.

The New York Jets last championship was in 1969.  They have one overall.

The Miami Dolphins last championship was in 1974.  They have two overall.

Pre-merger “NFL” is not the NFL.

So as I've said during all the Gabe hate, he keeps getting open it's Dorsey (and Allen) not going to him. Read the analysis...

Dorsey calls plays like he's playing Madden.  Rather than having play groupings that look the same and lure defense into mistakes he just calls the plays that they like and expects the Allen Show to win out.  Plays designed for 1 (maybe) 2 guys.  Half field reads ... I know this is an effort to get Allen throwing quicker and maybe these losses are the growing pains of making Allen a complete QB.

Yeah “open all day” and yet…

Is it just me or does Josh look a lot slower running the ball.  Back in his rookie or second year some of his runs were clocked in the 20 mph range and he was making d-backs and LBs look silly running by them.  Seems like now when he finally does run he has trouble beating defensive line. Anyone else notice this?

No way to really know for sure unless you have some clocked runs from this year too to compare. Personally I highly doubt his straight line speed and acceleration has decreased significantly in 2 or 3 years if we assume his playing weight as constant over that period of time. It’s more likely what you’re seeing with regard to him looking slower getting around the edge of the D line is Allen keeping his head up and looking downfield for a passing option for a longer period of time, instead of just accelerating and taking off.

Ah gotcha. I still would have like them to state "innocent until proven guilty". Instead they caved to "me too" and media pressure.

Kinda funny if the Bills would’ve said that, since they aren’t a criminal court and that evidentiary standard doesn’t apply to them at all.

Hard pass -- just because he wasnt found guilty does not mean he was found innocent.

Prosecuters declined to go after him based on single eye witness testimony from one of Arizas friends. So no one even had a chance to weigh his guilt really

I couldn’t give less of a **** about Araiza either way, but this isn’t even close to the truth. There were a multitude of things that went into the prosecution’s decision not to pursue charges. The alleged victim was a trainwreck and not the least bit credible by witness standards. Multiple people disputed the alleged victim’s account, including people who know and did not know Araiza. Cell phone data and videos also contradicted her accounts, including her assertion that Araiza was present inside the house during the gang assault.

I'm no fan of Dorsey, but I think what we're seeing is the type of offensive approach that McDermott has ALWAYS wanted. Not that he doesn't want points, but he wants "balance."

McD is a smart guy, a great defensive mind, but also an Alpha. This is HIS team. He has an idea of how to win.

The difference with Daboll was that he did it his way, throwing 10-15 times in a row to start games and having guys flying all over the place. Allen was a bulldozer. The offense was cranking.

I think McDermott was uncomfortable with that approach and probably tried to get Daboll to change and that's the cause of the obvious tension between the 2 that got worse and worse until the end. At the end of the day, McDermott couldn't say too much because it was working and the team was winning and the players would have probably sided with Daboll if things blew up about it, so McDermott had to just go along with it.

Why else would McD have such hard feelings about Daboll? And he does, we don't need to argue the blatantly obvious.

Obviously McD wants wins. Ultimately the HC gets the most credit, along with the QB. So it's a tense standoff.

If it came down to a "him or me" argument McD might not have been the owner's (or superstar QBs) choice when the offense is scoring at will and Allen is becoming a superstar and the team is winning "because of offense" (which also must have driven him crazy on some level).

It was also the defense that let the team down in 13 seconds.

As a HC, I can see how he might see it as Daboll trying to one up him. I could see him feeling disrespected, regardless of the outcome of it. He's the HC and it's supposed to be his program, but the OC was a big personality who was getting all sorts of credit for doing the opposite of what McD wanted.

What was McD going to do? Fire him? There would have been a mutiny. McD would have lost the locker room.

But now, Dorsey is just a guy and McDermott can put his stamp on the offense. Now offensive guys are frustrated, unhappy, and want their offense back, regardless of who is calling the plays.

That's the reason for the Diggs outbursts, Allen's malaise, and Florio's obnoxious "Jenga tower" articles after every Bills loss.

My theory anyway as to what is going on with the offense. I'm not sure how much it matters who the OC is.

So McDermott conspired with the Giants and forced them to hire Daboll as head coach?

Straight up on black Monday.  Who says no?

It’s a bit of an absurd idea, but an interesting thought exercise.  McD is stale here, but a proven commodity. Daboll is fun, creative guy and we might need that breath of fresh air. Sure, it’s a reaction to a gut punch loss.  But crazier things have happened and our staff right now ain’t it.

It’s not completely absurd in the abstract, but when you take into account respective contracts, etc… yeah it’s never happening

They’re not a defensive end away from being competitive. Any team that doesn’t have an established starting QB has to find that guy first before beefing up the roster, that’s why these other bottom feeders are sellers, they need cheap rookie contracts. And I still don’t believe the Bears would’ve had to outbid some other team in free agency and arrive at a number that was MORE than what they just signed him for.

I agree 100% the Bears stink. I don’t really understand this move either, they must really love the guy.

    What. Are. The Bears. Doing?!

First of all, Sweat was a free agent after the year, they could’ve handed him the bag without losing a draft choice. No other team was paying Sweat close to $25M/yr. All this before they’ve even seen him take a snap in their defense. I could run that organization better and do it for less than half of what Poles is making 😅 Poor Bears fans.

Well that’s the rub - waiting for free agency potentially puts you in a bidding war for the guy, but trading a high asset for him to avoid that just gives the player more leverage in negotiation, since the GM would be skewered/fired for giving away a 2nd rd pick for a rental.

Lots of teams get tough schedules every year, some of which is dictated by the team's results from the prior year, so the Bills getting a tough schedule this year isn't surprising. However, it appears the Bills got an extra dose of difficult. Their most difficult non-divisional games are on the road (Dallas being the exception), a game overseas with the Bills being the guinea pig of Goodell's London scheduling "experiment," and a late bye. The one bright spot was the early season Miami game being in Buffalo rather than Miami like last year. I don't know how much human input there is in the schedule making, but it seems the Bills got the short end of the stick this year.

Excuses. Home/Away follows a set formula.

There's still the terminology and the calls. From the way he speaks of it and how players have, the feeling is that McDermott's Defense IS complex.

I'm not saying I'd be opposed to him playing, if they want to put him out there. But on 2 practices and 4 days with the Playbook, if they determine he should sit this week, it a.) Would not surprise me and b.) Not be without good reason. Even if it's unpopular.

I’m also not opposed to him playing this week - I’m not opposed to giving him the week off either, for the reasons you stated. Just saying he’s not a 23 year old man cover guy they’re trying to convert. Douglas probably has a lot of base knowledge of concepts coming in.

Could do more harm than good if he's out of position because he doesn't know the calls. We don't do a lot of man to man. He's got to get down who's covering what zones on each playcall. Don't want to make his first impression be blowing zone coverage or running into people.

He’s a zone corner. There’s only so much complexity to that and he’s well versed coming in.

None of us really have time to play in the fantasyland of your mind where you think you know the business of football wherein you state, in the very first sentence of this thread “Obviously the Bills tried to trade him.” All I tried to tell you was no, that’s possible, but not obvious. Not to everyone. And all reports since then suggest that you were dead wrong, and now you can’t accept that. Know who else acts that way? Children.

Edit: and since we all now know Beane is a liar since his statement didn’t align to JMM’s baseless assertion, why not supply some secondary sources from the NFL rumor mill or insiders? Did any of them report prior to the trade deadline actual team interest in Elam that the Bills were listening to and considering? Were there picks or other compensation discussed? Cuz I didn’t see any.

you want me to assume Beane’s lying? I don’t believe he’s lying, which you obviously do. I’m not going to assume your position and then provide my own speculations to support you. Like I said I try not to speculate but you go ahead you’re doing great so far.

He didn’t just “not trade him.” He flat out said teams made inquiries and he told them he wasn’t interested.
