My counter-point is that punt length isn't the only trait you're looking for in great punters.

Both Haack and Bojo were terrible at "coffin corner" punting.

When you pin an offense inside their 1-3 yard line, that's usually an immediate stop and good field position for your team.

It's way more important than the net 4 yards you mentioned. Bojo and Haack would almost always sail it into the end zone.

The funny part is that was supposed to be Haack’s specialty.   Overall, he just had a terrible year, I don’t know if it was just a down year or if he sucks in general.

I'm sure I'll be in the minority here, but I actually agree with this logic.

Matt "Punt God" Araiza would be as close to a sure thing as you could get.

Araiza is also a pretty good place kicker, so there's your backup to Bass in case of injury as well.

The top 3 punters in the league make almost $4M/yr and their teams never let them go. They are game changers.

Using a 4th would sting a bit, but I'd do it. He likely won't be around in the 5th-7th.

I see your point on the salary of a punter, but even still, I’d look later in the draft if at all.  Traditionally, punters get drafted very late, if at all.  To my earlier point, I don’t think the difference is there to use a pick on one.  Bojo was a good punter for no investment, his holding sucked bad enough to cost him his job.  Haack is the opposite.  On the overall Bojo averaged about 4yards better than Haack and aside from the SLOW kick that cost the Pitt game, it really didn’t matter all year.

  3. The difference between the very best punter and the worst in the NFL is a whole 8 yards on average.  A team punts on average about 4 times a game, the Bills punted on average 3.05 times a game last year.  How much is 25 yards a game worth to you? (Assuming you get the very best guy and Buffalo winds don’t skew their stats back to the middle of the pack where it’s more like a 4 yard a kick difference). BTW the difference between the best punter and worst when looking at Net is only 7 yards and the best average distance punter is not the best Net.

A great punter is a nice thing to have, but the amount of times that 4-8 yards makes a big difference is rare.  The Bills could/should upgrade as Haack is one of the worst in the league no matter how you shape it, but to talk about a 3rd round pick is nuts.

There will be a few speed options if he's serious. Isabella likely would be the least expensive option. DJ Chark and John Ross are both options, however both would be a tad costly and have some injury concerns.

I fully expect a true blazing WR to be brought in.

Chark would be awesome, but I expect him to get a pretty fat paycheck too.

Mission Accomplished, Walter Football. Six pages of Bills fans clicks.

Next mock: "Bills need to draft a 3rd round QB because Josh Allen's play is not sustainable."

It’s a win for them, take the most polarizing play and zing him, clicks are coming.

I agree the Bills better have a decent back up QB, won’t be through the draft tho.

Calvin Austin III wr, Memphis Tigers 5'7 153 lbs 4.2 - 4.3 speed

You want our own explosive take it to the house on any given play wr like Tyreek Hill.. this is the guy. Under sized so injury risk will be a concern but you got to catch him first. Gets excellent release at the line and a burner.  Second day pick likely high 2nd rounder.

Wow is he light.. I’d be terrified to see him hit in the NFL, but that’s some serious speed.

Diontae is the number 1 - 63.3% of targets, 169 targets for 107/1161/8.  Short aDOT but thats to be expected with Ben at QB.  He had 5 drops in 2021 after 13 in 2020.

Diggs caught 62.8% of targets 164 targets for 103/1225/10.  His aDOT was 11.1 after 10.1 in 2020.  Diggs also had 5 drops after 8 in 2020.

My guess is the Giants.  Daboll request and give him a fat guarantee - then decline jones option and move him to someone like pittsburgh, washington, or TB.

Proof that stats don’t tell the whole story, if you watched the Steelers this year, you know Dionte dropped 5 balls in one game, the guy is not good, nor is the tracking of actual drops.

If that’s the way you would run your business due to a cringy employee…… you’d fail

In a normal business you would just remind him he’s under contract and if that’s a problem, he can stop being paid.    The entitlement of this little ***** is insane.

I actually disagree. Mapletron, Diontae and JuJu are not trash at all. Ben was a noodle armed QB for 2 seasons with those three and they produced. JuJu is a bit of an internet diva and Claypool needs Hines Ward to smack him hard in the face and show him what being a pro looks like, but the talent is there.

Diontae couldn’t catch a cold, Maple syrup hasn’t done anything and JuJu is a #2 playing as a #1.

  10. Real talk, there are a lot of vet QBs that are FA this year and all of them are equal to or have better numbers than MT.  He’d be stupid to go to NY to back up Jones who they are going to give the job to.  Pitt is a ***** show and agin, not going to get paid there, the WRs suck, don’t care what the national media thinks.  He’s gonna end up a back up or a place holder unless something changes. His best bet is here, Tampa, Indy, Washington.  Most likely, Tampa will go all in for a real QB again, Indy is appealing, but should go for Mariota or Winston, Washington looks appealing if they don’t go w the incumbent, either way, place holder scenario.

I truly believe the Giants are committed to Jones for this season. Every report I've read is that Giants management across the board loves Jones and think his talent has been wasted. Assuming Trubisky is a competitor, he's going to where he will be the starter. Pittsburgh is the most stable organization in the league and hasn't had a losing season in forever. The receivers are good. The RB is good. The defense is generally good (albeit with some holes). It makes the most sense to me.

Pitts receivers are pure garbage.  Their stud RB couldn’t average 4ypc, but the team sucked so much he got more touches than D Henry in most years.  Any (de)illusions that Pitt has a team a QB should want to play is from somebody that didn’t watch them.

  12. They can do it if they want, they have love in waiting so if they have Rodgers a 4 year deal, only 2 with guaranteed money, gave him a massive signing bonus, like $75M and a base of 12.5 for 2 years, then he gets the 50M average for 2 years and the cap hit is spread out over 4 seasons, they could get him and Adams back for 2 more years doing it that way.  Would I? Probably not.  He’s 38, it’s time to make a move towards the future, but that’s just me talking.

Couldn't Darnold negotiate with them to release him if he didn't get paid....The Panthers will take a 18M Cap hit...but won't pay 18M tp him and Darnold will get his freedom.  Of course, Darnold could collect the 18M and then walk in FA....

Coming here as a backup to JA, I don't see how Darnold will be willing to give up 18M.

If you were him, you gonna give up 19M to go somewhere else? Understanding this is very likely your last big payday?  Hell no.

  14. I don’t mind the move down if nobody has slipped to us, wouldn’t have an issue with your positional picks either.  I would like to see a playmaker added, if they land a guy like Kirk, no need, but if not, I’d like to see someone who can get something from nothing added to the roster. Personal hope is a WR slips in the first and we capitalize, then grab a corner, from there it’s whatever makes sense based on the board.

Unlike the Rams, our window is a decade long. I think this team's success is sustainable and I wouldn't mortgage our future by dealing picks unless it's for a young player that we extend for a long-term deal.

Von Miller played well for the Rams down the stretch, but trading a 2nd and 3rd round pick for half a season of play will hurt them in the long-term.

I think we are more likely to trade away players for picks as draft day approaches (Edmunds, Morse, Beasley, Ford)

I couldn’t disagree more honestly.  Windows don’t stay open like that.  You are a threat for a long time, but having players in their prime only lasts so long.  Plus Allen’s deal kicks in next year, meaning you are forever pinched on cap space.  I thought they should have gone more hardcore for it last offseason, but they left holes and they paid for it eventually.  Depth in the secondary must be addressed.  LBs who actually do their job must be acquired.  A running back should have been brought in.  They went all cute and thrifty and got bounced.   You are getting so close to dealing with the pinch of JAs deal, Oliver is coming up, Edmonds is making more than he’s worth and now you have 2 LBs making more than 3 should cost for their production level, you still have zero impact DEs, an aging secondary and no speed at corner.  That window is shaky.
