  1. GB is one of the worst run franchises in the NFL, they have squandered back to back HOF QBs by refusing to get decent coaching and weapons for their QBs.  They are the Browns with luck drafting QBs.

The OP is sort of right IMO, if you take Love, the MOST you give him is one year, trade Rodgers when he will bring you back a nice package of picks to surround your new QB with talent and have 4-5 years of top young talent playing on Rookie deals, see Cinci as an example of what can happen.  They were bad enough to get #1 overall then got lucky enough to be back at 4 the next year, they are awesome because of it.  The Pack screwed themselves, they’ll get next to nothing for Rodgers now and they have no idea what Love will actually be, if he’s great, they turn around and have to hand him the same money Rodgers was getting.

It was either Marino or Cover1, they did a breakdown of our DL before and after Von’s injury by all kinds of metrics .. and Oliver wasn’t good.. at all.

Von, Rousseau and (to a lesser extent) Epenesa were the only ones who showed up.

I guess your statement is qualified for Ed by saying “when healthy”… I don’t know… guy seems needs to be fully healthy and have top talent around him to be effective.

Yep, needs a perfect scenario to show up, the exact type of player you don’t pay.

It's expensive given Woods play last season but if he returns to form they either get a good player for a couple seasons or a mid-season trade chip at a position that is bringing real value back in return.

Injuries happen, he has looked good when healthy, a borderline #1 but top flight #2, I think they got a relative bargain for the risk of seeing if he’s back to form.

There are some really intriguing RB and TE candidates to be had in the 3rd round and below.

Izzy is super fast, good size and fantastic production and he’s only 20 years old.

Pacheco 2.0?  Don’t know where’s he’s projected, but looks like an animal.

Landry and DJ Chark have a strong connection to our WR coach also.

I’m a fan of Chark, but the money has to be right.

Predictions on what OBJ actually lands for a contract?  I’m thinking maybe MAYBE 14 a year for 3 years and ~20M in guaranteed money.  He’s older and injured, not sure I’d be throwing everything I got at him.

    D-Hop, I’m in.

Stop. He has been chasing for RB's in mid rounds where your roll of the dice for players that deep is missing a few high digits. When has Bean gone early for a RB? This might be the year.

2nd round last year on a guy he no more than drafted and said wasn’t a starter. That’s a high pick no matter how you want to shake it.  He’s drafted a RB in the first 3 rounds in 3 out of the 4 years he’s been here.  That’s chasing something.  Not only that but he’s signed and traded for them too.

Settle was the only one of those who would qualify as a "sleeper".

Jones was a steady, long-time $4M/yr value plugger who Beane overpaid..........the other two were worn out veterans.

Nailed it, the problem Settle had was availability, he flashed a bit when he played,  which was very little.   Jones was very good when healthy and not too bad when he was dinged up, but you got about what you expected there and I agree, over paid to get him. There should have been zero expectations for Quess and Saffold looked washed in 21, so it was a prayer he would be worth something in 22 and it wasn’t answered.

It was not a good year for the Beanery over all.

  8. You absolutely trade him IF you can find a taker.  I said it when they did it, wasted 5th year option, should not do it.  Here we are, you have to pay a guy 25-50% more than market value and can’t o anything but offer to pay him more to make it better.

Not when it would involve the player giving back bonus they’ve already been paid and converting it to salary to reduce dead cap, which is what would have to happen.

    Not allowed

It would not require that, his signing bonus wasn’t huge and the guaranteed money would follow the contract to the next team in a trade scenario, he’s very traceable from the Bills perspective.  The dead cap number and the trade number are not the same.

    What’s BS about this?

If he won’t play for 4x that much, why on earth would he risk injury for 10m?

This is going to be a lot of fun to follow, and I hope some NFC team makes Lamar the highest paid player in NFL history.

Makes the AFC a little easier, and Lamar gets a serious payday. If you look at SpotTrac he was making peanuts (like 1 million or so per season until his 5th year option) while the Ravens ran him into the ground. I can't blame the man for wanting to get his guaranteed money.

If he had an agent, he would have signed right after JA and been making bank for 2 years, he’s an idiot

The Tag and Trade stuff is talked about all the time but seldom happens.

The deadline is now.  Once a player is tagged the team has to clear enough cap space to keep him.

The window to trade him is one week.  If no one want to trade you're screwed with the players cap, and it hurts trying to bring in any other FAs.

It's a risk, not a guarantee for teams without a lot of cap space.

it only works if you have a guy in real Demand and if you do, you probably aren’t trading him while you hold the rights to them for less than the highest paid at their position, soooo yeah, tag and trade is HIGHLY unlikely.

  12. He would make them a legit favorite to win the SB, not saying they actually will, but it will massively move the Vegas needle.

The Jets could make it happen with a restructure, make it signing bonus money and add years to the deal, give him a Brady special, 4 year deal 100M signing bonus, vet min for salary this year, jump it to 10M next season, 2 voidable years on the end, bam, flexibility, he gets essentially a 56M/year salary. Rinse and repeat if it’s working or sail off into the sunset a VERY rich man.

Not suggesting that this where things are, but can't a contract be restructured in a way to facilitate a trade (and then the acquiring team makes an adjustment after the trade)?

Sort of.  The player may have to make concessions to make it work.

I might be missing details, but I believe it technically COULD be done this year on a trade scenario.  We would be on the hook for half of his signing bonus we have last year, so roughly 10.5M, which could be spread out with a post June 1 designation, and bring it down to 7M next year and this year.  The guaranteed salary would follow the contract so it’s actually not THAT bad to trade him, but to cut him would be impossible.   The Cowboys would have to take his guaranteed money as part of the deal and realistically, they are going to have to make the deal before the 21st if they are going to because his option must be exercised between the 15th-21st, which is 16M more guaranteed.

The big thing is, do the Cowboys actually want him?  Would they give up a 1st + for him?  It’s all well and good to want to play w your brother, but reality may be much different.

Henry would be an exciting add, but I don't know that it makes sense.  RB is the easiest position to acclimate too, so I would think if there was a hole that the Bills would be comfortable with youth from the draft at it would be RB.

Someone suggested we trade Oliver, and I do think trading Oliver in general makes sense as I have a hard time seeing us pay up to keep him next year.  But I don't think trading Oliver for a short term option at RB makes sense, I would think Beane would rather get draft assets that can infuse youth and longer term players into the roster.

The other things to consider here are that Henry wasn't nearly as effective before Titans built up their OL into one of the best.  And our OL needs a lot of work, so not sure Henry just walks in and plays at the same level here unless we can significantly improve the OL, which acquiring Henry might limit our ability to do so.  Then you have the mileage and high use of him combined with his age.  I think about guys like Shaun Alexander who just instantly fell off a cliff earlier than expected thanks to the power run style and high use rate.

Would I be excited if Henry was a Bill...sure...do I think it would happen, doubtful.

I agree on all fronts.  The only point I might counter is, who would make a bigger difference on the team, Oliver or Henry, both are paid basically the same and both will likely be gone after the year so it’s kind of a push in that respect.
