  1. Well, having not posted in about a year... this game has driven me to do so. I'd like to say something profound and earth shattering, but all I can come up with is..... "figures."
  2. Maybe. I work for a company based out there and often coordinate business travel with Buffalo sporting events and interesting concerts. =)
  3. I used to be a bit more tight-assed about taking my kids because I grew up near the stadium. So, I'd get the occasional drunken tool passing out in my front yard (let's not get into the Dead shows!). That said, it is all about how you deal with it. I'd *rather* everyone sat the hell down all game long, never used any bad language, and took it easy on the sauce. Why? Because I'm a dad. That said, welcome to reality. I don't expect anyone to go out of their way for me. I expect them to have a hell of a good time. Of course, puking on my kid and punching my wife is over the top, but I've never seen that actually happen (nor would I expect it to). Use it to teach, stay patient, explain away what's going on if the kids are old enough. Pony up some extra $$ for a good seat as they're usually calmer. If someone pushes it, call the ushers. Edit: I promise they hear language just as bad on the school bus.
  4. This. Thus my 10-5. I don't anticipate winning all home, but I don't anticipate only winning 2 away.
  5. Nah, don't do that. I'll buy you a case of whatever you want to say thanks and then you don't have to suffer through that crap.
  6. Yeah. Simply terrible. I love the cut, too. No need keeping the distraction around or to play guessing games. With Fitz' performance (even with the Ints), there's no need.
  7. buffalobillscom 12:18pm via HootSuite The #Bills have released QB Trent Edwards. Head Coach Chan Gailey will speak to the media at 3pm. Visit buffalobills.com. Via twitter.
  8. Oh, yeah, let me clarify... "I'm not sure if there's anything specific that triggered it, other than the usual upchuck of negativity." I've never liked his columns as I've got the impression that he uses that style in order to appeal to and perpetuate the Buffalonian negativity. He's certainly able to stir the pot, which I'm sure sells papers (and web site advertisement space). I really don't think he's as down on the teams as he sounds, I think he just knows how to hit that nerve. I don't usually even click on the links anymore.
  9. Not sure what triggered it (or if anyone else posted already), but... http://twitter.com/KawikaMitchell
  10. TT's a great guy and all, but I had to stop following him on Twitter due to all of his political stuff. It was like listening to Sean Hannity. Disclaimer: I don't care what his political affiliation is, it's just the constant barrage of it got quite old.
  11. Nah, they won't. I'm not being argumentative, but I think that's going to turn out to be a hollow threat. Buffalo loves the Bills. If the non-stop sucking hasn't turned us away, then having to move down to a private lot a block "that way" won't turn us away either.
  12. Trust me, I'd love to take my kids to games and not so much care about it, but that's really not the way it works, unfortunately. I wouldn't have said anything to the girls (well, beside sharing my telephone number :-)) but I would have probably said something to the kid about how it was just a dumb thing to do. All in all, I don't worry about other people too much. My offspring are going to get their grow-up from me anyway. I think it sends a pretty solid message to be one in the crowd not doing that when you're a parent.
  13. I wish people took that into account more. I have two kids and I have a few rules. If there's no kid's menu, we won't eat there. If it's to far to drive, I'm not taking a plane so we just don't go. If you whine, we leave. Some parents seem to forget what it's like before kids. They get this little "isn't that cute?" smile. Well, no, not really. That causes two problems. First, they expect everyone else to go G-rated. Secondly, they also assume everyone else is watching out as they are. When you don't have your own, you're just not wired to think that way; it's simple. When I get time away from my kids, I like to relax and not worry about it. At the same time, when they're with me, I totally respect the fact that others don't want to deal with them. I see it as my responsibility to keep them the hell out of your way! Of course.. barf on 'em and all that and it's another story blah blah blah...
  14. Just a couple points and I'll go back to to the place from where I came. RWS is a rowdy stadium, for better or worse. I grew up about a mile from it and went to games all the time from about age 12 through 19, when I moved out of WNY. That said, it *does* feel different now than it did back in the day. That could be one of two things. It's either fallen further into the realm of drunken cesspool or I view that type of thing differently than I did when I was 18. There was certainly a time where it wasn't a party if I could remember it. I don't so much find that enjoyable anymore. So that said, my guess is that it's a mix of the two. The thing is, I remember how fun that was, so who the hell am I to tell someone they can't have their turn? I think someone else said it already, but 95% of people are probably great. The problem is if that crappy 5% piss off three people each, then you've got a metric assload that just had a crappy time at a football game. Hell, everyone is there for the same reason (for the most part). As a dad, I'm generally not going to care what anyone does unless it feels as though they're threatening. Have fun! Party! Drink! Let's have a beer together! Enjoy yourself! I want you to! It only gets uncomfortable if you're bumping into my kids, dropping beer on them, shouting exceptionally bad crap, or in their way so bad that I've wasted money on the seat. Sure, it's a football game, they're gonna hear some new words. That's fine. It's nothing worse than they'll hear on a school bus. I'd take my 9 year old girl to a Bills game I think, but I wouldn't want to go younger. That's old enough to explain why people are idiots sometimes. Now, all of this "NFL is alienating long time fans" talk doesn't seem to hold water to me. I think the perceived environment does drive away the "family segment." A family of four is probably more likely to sink money into merchandise in addition to the tickets as well. It's a win-win for them. You tailgate elsewhere and still go to games (after maybe a 3 week boycott) and they create the impression of a more family friendly atmosphere. In dollar terms, it seems to be the right decision. In "I have no kids and just want to get drunk with my buddies" terms, yeah, it kind of sucks. The reality is that a little mutual respect would go a long way, but since it hasn't happened, they're stepping in. Now, to quote what I said in the other thread... don't get me wrong... if you happen to be seated behind Patriots fans, the proper thing to do in that situation is pour beer on them. If you're in front of Patriots fans, you should stand the whole time regardless of age or medical condition. If you happen to be next to one, it's your choice. Pick something good.
  15. That about sums it up. Simply put, don't be a dick. For every dude that wants to stand the whole time, there's a guy that doesn't. If someone stands for a while, let it slide. If someone tells you to sit down? That's cool too. Enjoy the game, drink a few beers, and just don't be a dick. Find a common ground with your section and relax. As far as the new regulations go. Meh. Again, for every person that wants to funnel whiskey in the lot there's someone who wants to drink a nice cup of hot cocoa in a fuzzy cardigan. If you want to do the former, just go up a block and park at a private lot. If you've got your panties in wad and that type of thing bothers you? Lighten up a bit and just let 'em have fun (unless they barf all over you, then you can punch them in the face). Edit.. if you happen to be seated behind Patriots fans, the proper thing to do in that situation is pour beer on them. If you're in front of Patriots fans, you should stand the whole time regardless of age or medical condition. If you happen to be next to one, it's your choice. Pick something good.
  16. I haven't posted in forever... but you're dead on with this. Since the early 00's, it's felt a lot more commercial. Even the advertising. Kick off, commercial, first down, commercial, 4th down, commercial, punt, commercial, first down... rinse and repeat. Even some of the news shows have had the air of WWE to me. I just want good old fashioned football, with good old fashioned tailgating. I'm drawn more and more to the NHL due to a lot of that stuff. That said, guys drunk enough to pay for a ticket and puke themselves kinda piss me off. As long as they don't barf on me, to each their own.
  17. I gotta say, I don't know what you guys do for a living, but these are some interesting friggin' posts you're typing up. I've been Googling some of these terms for the past hour.
  18. The Murderous Ex-Player. Watched the whole thing.
  19. Hell, it was that way well into the 80's! Any given concert is like that, too. Regulations or not. It sucks, but unless you're at a game every day, it's not gonna hurt you. Especially outside. Smells like stir fried dog crap, but then again so does the barf in the isles. (Doctors feel free to correct my above statement, if there are any of you around!)
  20. I smoked a couple packs a day for almost ten years and then realized that a brand of lung carcinoma didn't look like something I wanted, so I quit. It's been eight years now. Since doing that, it's entirely noticeable, everywhere. If the dude two cars ahead of me @ 70 MPH is smoking with his windows open, I can smell it. It stinks to high hell, too. That's not as bad as the cluster of people outside of any given mall/office complex stinking up the place. I've also noticed that when I'm in a state that still allows the "smoking section" that the whole restaurant smells. Health risks aside, I find it hard to believe that anyone would want to smell that stuff, or that any establishment would want that lingering. But, all of that said, smokers really get there asses kicked. I almost feel sorry for them. Quitting sucks. I did it. Poor guys are really treated like crap. If they want to smoke in some designated little area off in the distance, have at it. The stink sucks, but when it's split off like that, it's no worse than than having the window down on a crowded expressway. I worry more about the dude barfing two rows behind me than I do a collection of smokers.
  21. Yeah, why the hell not, eh? I agree. Go Bills. Look at it this way, if they do better than the piss-poor job they did this year, its' a pleasant surprise.
  22. You guys ever wonder if the reason these coaches aren't interested is because we're freaking them the hell out? Airport mileage from his house and flight tracking? Jodie Foster is sure to be impressed.
