Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - The Village Blacksmith Under a spreading chestnut-tree The village smithy stands; The smith, a mighty man is he, With large and sinewy hands; And the muscles of his brawny arms Are strong as iron bands. His hair is crisp, and black, and long, His face is like the tan; His brow is wet with honest sweat, He earns whate'er he can, And looks the whole world in the face, For he owes not any man. Week in, week out, from morn till night, You can hear his bellows blow; You can hear him swing his heavy sledge, With measured beat and slow, Like a sexton ringing the village bell, When the evening sun is low. And children coming home from school Look in at the open door; They love to see the flaming forge, And hear the bellows roar, And catch the burning sparks that fly Like chaff from a threshing-floor. He goes on Sunday to the church, And sits among his boys; He hears the parson pray and preach, He hears his daughter's voice, Singing in the village choir, And it makes his heart rejoice. It sounds to him like her mother's voice, Singing in Paradise! He needs must think of her once more, How in the grave she lies; And with his haul, rough hand he wipes A tear out of his eyes. Toiling,--rejoicing,--sorrowing, Onward through life he goes; Each morning sees some task begin, Each evening sees it close Something attempted, something done, Has earned a night's repose. Thanks, thanks to thee, my worthy friend, For the lesson thou hast taught! Thus at the flaming forge of life Our fortunes must be wrought; Thus on its sounding anvil shaped Each burning deed and thought. - thankful of the wise council and friendship , a most beautiful , most precious gift.

Trust you understand the wall has not endured for the time it has, if it were not for the many fine folk who frequent site and those who do the work to facilitate this. The wall has changed much since its inception, frankly not all in ways that are to the better. There is not the sense of community and good will there once was, at least not as close and sadly many older posters do not connect with the new and younger ones who now frequent site. Its true , far to many voice mean spirited opinions and threads, clearly posed to do nothing more than incite and get a rise out of others, rather than exchange opinions and gain information and at times have some good natured fun. ( there is a line of ragging on each other that we all need not be thin skinned about, but unfortunately that line is clearly crossed to often these days. It does concern me at times given there are very real people behind these posts and threads we read, the nature of life and the times we live, I fear the very real hurt some do cause, rather than the building up of each other we could achieve. ) You hang in there, stand up for yourself and keep posting and ignore the mean spirited , the wall a place of fine folk and a great group who work hard to keep it in operation, I encourage you not to let the few bring you down. ... -
Great four days of golf, with Arnold Palmer on air most days sharing experiences, the video images of golf course beautiful, what Tiger did today , impressive is a understatement. How special would it be to retire , your home overlooking such beautiful surroundings.

Like photo of him on tractor.... nice to listen to extended conversation with him . Secondarily it appears Tiger is going to make things very interesting down the stretch today. Down 5 at start currently 2 back after 7. Always interesting to see golf courses, feel envious of those with such lovely looking homes overlooking them.

No , I understood you were, just alluding to the first few words.... Like the story of Jason Gore, currently in third place at this tournament. Jason Gore and Arnold Palmer JASON GORE: When I was 11 years old, all my family is from Pittsburgh, so I was just starting to play golf. My uncle John Kovak was a teacher, wasn't a PGA teacher, but we went back to Pittsburgh for a month for the summer, and I was just getting into golf and he was helping me, yada-yada, started to absolutely love it because I could drive a golf cart there. This was back when I thought Pinnacle 384s were the best ball in the world. My mom and I went for a ride up to Latrobe, wasn't that far away. We found Latrobe Country Club and drove in like we owned the place. I was wearing a light blue Town & Country surf design tee shirt with a big ugly emblem on the back, and I had these shorts on that had yellow and pink and blue and red, I don't know what they were, obnoxiously terrible. Never been on a surfboard in my life, but I looked like a surfer. So we walked into the pro shop at Latrobe Country Club, members only, walked into the pro shop, and we kind of in a stupid way said, "Is Mr. Palmer going to be here?" They said, "As a matter of fact, he is." So we waited around. He drove up in a tractor-like golf cart. I just remember he was nice enough, he took a picture with us, signed a scorecard, and he said, "Son, I'm going to go hit balls. Would you like to come watch?" "Well, yeah, I'd love to." So he went down, took a whole leather bag of shag balls, dropped them on like the ladies' part of the first tee, the lower tee, and he sat the caddie down there and hit balls and I sat right on the little slope right behind the first tee and watched Mr. Palmer hit balls for about 45 minutes, and from that point on I knew I wanted to be a professional golfer. Q. Have you told him that story again? JASON GORE: I told him that story, we had an outing at Calusa Pines last year, and I told him that story, and it was like a fireside chat is what it was. We were all inside, and he was telling stories about the Ryder Cup and all this stuff, and I finally just said, "I've got to reiterate this story," because that hour of my life changed my life completely. I told him the story, and I look over at him, and I can see him kind of starting to well up a little bit. It might have been what I wanted him to do, so I might have been making it up (laughter), but he got up, shook my hand, pulled me in, gave me a hug, and that's just the kind of person he is. This guy is the -- the littlest things he does for a punk dressed in surf clothes who was trespassing on his property changes lives. He's got that power, and that's what makes him The King, and that's why he's the greatest person to this game. I went up and saw him a couple weeks ago down in Seminole. We played in a pro-member, and I knew I had gotten a sponsor's invite. I drove out there and said, "Mr. Palmer, thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to play your golf tournament." He looked at me and winked, and he said, "I never forgot that story." I think he doesn't even know who I am or remember that moment, but he did, and it's a very touching moment, and it changed my life forever. So there's the long story. Good luck printing that one.

whew, I see bastard, i think you going to me he really a bastard. It to me is special to sit a listen to this man talk for a few hours. hardly the norm with such people.

Can't help but feel privileged to be able to hear and see Arnold Palmer on air this week on Golf Channel , and now NBC, casually speaking and commenting about the proceeding. Listening how evident it is , why he greatly admired. He a man of directness , but having great humility. It feels special to have this opportunity to hear and one of all sports greatest ever.

12 year old not a father says DNA test Remember awhile back story of 13 year old father, he confident he was father in the face of many other young men claiming to have had relations with child's mother, had DNA test done which showed him not to be father. What to do? from article : The result will be a blow to Alfie who was "devastated" by the boys' claims and "adored" Maisie. He was convinced he was the dad after a single night of unprotected sex with Chantelle. Before he took the test, he said: "I didn't know about DNA tests before but mum explained it's when they do a swab in your mouth and it tells if you're the dad. So if I have it, they can all shut up." His mum Nicole, 43, added at the time: "It had not even crossed Alfie's mind whether Chantelle had not been faithful to him. He's absolutely devastated that these lads say they slept with her."

this another premature story This from George Gillette owner of Montreal Canadiens who widely report by almost every single news source over the entire nation and because of his interests in soccer the world "Even when you think you're doing it right it gets distorted. There is no story yet, we'll find out what it is when we get the reports. "The need to make headlines sometimes transcends research." Clearly few if any took time to ask the man is the Canadians were up for sale, it was simply taken off a wire with a big headline and spoken and written as fact by most every talking head or scribe from Iceland to Punky doodle corners. Many selling it with a authoritative all knowing spin and comment as though it be fact. The truth being 99.99 % had and never been within thousands of miles from Mr. Gillette, just as many had not been anywhere Terrell Owens on Monday when the non story of he not attending a voluntary work was posted as absolute fact as being somehow significant. It being rather obvious those in Washington did not just decide on Tuesday afternoon to have a awards dinner, if I am to buy that news sources are so particular about what goes into print I would expect they would have taken time to ask those involved in matter. As Mr. Gillette says , "The need to make headlines sometimes transcends research.". Just a none will ever stand up and say they were to hasty in Terrell Owens story, similarly there will be no admission of wrong and over zealous printing of a unsubstantiated story, that far to many jumped at far to quickly . "I can't help you grant"... Lori you can do better -

My first post was simply a post linking the story. Not at any time did I mention Tim, or target espn. I stand by what I said a number of times, its sad the haste to print the negative so quickly , but not show similar haste for a positive story. -

No Tim, I don't expect apologies. I would need think for a long time to come up with a time media made apologies for anything period. And yes we totally disagree. It is what it is. And no I am not going to suppose anything about Terrell Owens attentions to participate in a voluntary workout. I don't know for certain if he would have came to Buffalo otherwise, given he was also meeting with congress who is to say he was not busy at other times, not just this evening. I can suppose and conjecture to the positive or to the negative. Its a matter of spin I suppose positive or negative. I stand by my comment that media quickly jumped on the story of Terrell not attending camp it was everywhere quickly, what I am saying is I would like to see balanced similar speed when he does something positive. It amazes me that instantaneously after game photo's articles can come out, the reports of TO missing workouts so rapid but the system to busy to post him doing something so positive and creating attention to the plight of those with Alzheimer's. I have met and have many media friends, many have been nothing but polite to me, but yes I believe that some media do put the boots to individuals and communities. God only knows I hope you get your news from better sources than googling. I hear when you are saying its a case of simply being busy, if that is what it is so be it. -

With respect Tim and you are much appreciated and no intent to argue , but.... I posted this as simple information, I do think it does not speak well though for all the major websites, espn, ssi, cbs, fox, ect that a old man from southern ontario could google and post this story on this wall before they did. What troubling is the haste to post that Terrell Owens did not attend voluntary workouts, I think it fair balance similar haste to post and report the positive. My post stands on its own, it was posted before any of the supposed connected major sites did so. - again not to be wise, it to me is disappointing... -

He also has going before congress to speak on the import of better support regarding Alzheimer's. This would involve more than a couple of hours tonight. He likely would be doing some glad handing during the day. Given Lori's article one would hope he does not do to much during evenings. No it isn't a issue if he attends these workouts or not, that is why so many have objected to see internet headlines of TO missing workouts. No doubt based on his past Terrell Owens will create more than enough controversy non stories such as he not coming to works this week and the speed the stories were printed disappointing they would not be on balance equally fast to post the positive. imo
