  1. I’m really thinking that we are just going to draft a more complete wr in the first and double dip somewhere in the third or fourth round and call it a day. With Diggs likely back, we have some vet leadership for the young guys.

I was thinking 3rd round.  Safety would be an unusual round 1 pick.

But I wouldn't want to wait too long.  We'll need an immediate impact player.

I’m not sure about that. They got both poyer and Hyde in one FA period. They were both corners with position flexibility that allowed the bills to convert them to safety. I’d bet anything they are seeing who will be available on the FA market in a similar scenario where they could get them cheap and convert them.

  3. Doubtful that neither white nor Elam will be converted to safety. Neither are strong tacklers which is what is required from that position.

White would be more likely, imo.

But they'll probably draft someone high, and pick up a FA.

High as in round 3?  No way it should be higher than that. McD took 2 late round corners and made them pro bowl safeties. We have other needs that need addressed by early picks.

One thing to watch is Beane better not go to sleep as the draft pick gets close. KC will be looking for the same type of player so if your WR is there, go get him. Don’t get blindsided like they did with McDuffie.

WR has to be the pick barring something unexpected.

I thought this same exact thing this morning. KC will be behind us again  and needing the same thing we need. I expect Beane to move up for a WR for this reason. Can’t sit and hope our guy falls to us just to see KC pass us and get that guy.

Give me Kam Kinchens from Miami. One of the better safety's out there and we have to replace two. He's a ball hawk, isn't super proficient in the run game, but he's was a do it all safety for Miami 2 years ago, this year he missed some time with an injury but was their best player on the back 7. They have two high caliber safeties coming out but James Williams is a Strong Safety whereas Kam is the FS.

Will he be there in the third?

Rookie WRs take two years to develop generally.

    Id prefer a veteran.

Not in todays nfl. This is a passing league and rookie WRs are making immediate impacts at a very high rate.

Puka Nacua was drafted in the 5th, so let's just hope to hit the lottery like the Rams did!

Can’t rely on that happening. Waiting till later in the draft is what got us receivers with limited skill sets. The more complete skill sets are drafted high. Yes…you will get someone that slips through and becomes a stud from time to time, but that’s not the norm and it would be reckless for the bills to continue to expect that to happen.

I know we're all flipping out about the weather being an equalizer (and part of me feels the same way), but maybe, just maybe it separates these 2 teams even more.

If the weather is as forecasted, Buffalo can concentrate almost strictly on stopping the run with only their RBs since their QB can't run.  Meanwhile, the Bills can run with their RBs, run with Josh, and as the Bills learned in the Patriots hurricane game a few years ago, Josh can still actually throw in wind and snow.  And we have guys like Kincaid and Shakir who played their college ball in the cold weather so they at least have some experience catching passes in inclement weather.

Maybe this is just me trying to make myself feel better, but I think we should still win regardless.

I’ve thought the same thing. Mason Rudolph isn’t scaring anyone with his arm, especially in bad weather. McD will take away what they want to do and dare their third string qb to beat us.

  8. I think they may have kept him out as precaution. We were in the playoffs no matter what and no matter what some of you think, McD trusts and likes Jackson. Good move by McD if that’s the case.

This was a failed thread the second you didn’t include Allen. We wouldn’t have won this without him.

Yeah- we need to trade up

I agree that 6 will definitely go rd 1.   7 maybe 8.  I guess nine isn’t out of the realm of possibility but I doubt it.

The reason why I doubt it- because I think there could be 6 or more QBs going rd 1.  That’s a big ask but there are needy teams.

Teams that might be in the market for a QB:

    Jets- need long term

    NE- need

    Steelers- need

    Washington-  need

NYG- dimes stinks- his contract not withstanding- Daboll and schoen have to know they’ll be fired if Dimes is their QB another 1-2 years.

Vikings-  they need a fresh start

    Seattle- geno isn’t the guy.

    Atlanta-  big time need

Bears- They’ll draft Caleb imo.  Does anyone want to trade for and pay Fields?

NO- Carr has a contract but he’s a bum

    Browns- possibly

Dallas- possibly- depends on Daks contract demands.

Rams- possibly but doubtful- stafford is balking but I could see them trading him.

Tampa- possibly- but I think they go with Baker another year

Miami- depends if they believe in Tua.  I don’t.

    lots of good QBs imo-

    1st rd grades:

    Caleb

    Maye

    Daniels

    Nix

    possible 1st rd grades:

    Penix

    Mccarthy

    Ewers

    Sanders

I just really think there will be a WR at where we pick that is worthy of the selection. I doubt we trade up too far, but a slight move is def in play, as Beane is no stranger to go get what he wants. That said…if we wait till the second, I don’t know that we will be able to get a game changer because these WRs keep going earlier and earlier every year. It’s a premium position tjay is starting to pay dividends earlier than it used to.

what are your thoughts on Diggs?  I honestly feel it’s a real possibility that he will want out after this year and they might decide it’s not worth the trouble to try to satisfy him anymore. Yes, the guaranteed money sucks, but we’ve seen it before. Maybe we could get a 2 and package that pick to go up and get one of the top WRs?

you bring up a good point about the qbs. They will push WRs down. So too will the tackles, some edge guys, a few DBs, heck…Brock bowers will prob go before 3 WRs go off the board. We should get a good selection of WRs to choose from.

Yeah I really like what I see regarding Walker.  I could see him being this years Pickens.  High 2nd rd pick that might be worthy of rd 1.

Polk always stands out to me as a guy who could blossom into a WR1 if given the opportunity.  Effective all over the field, good run after the catch.  Lack of blocking scares me a bit for what this team wants.

Mitchell reminds me of what Gabe Davis could be if he had great hands and could get better separation.  But never a WR1

I really like worthy but I’m worried a bit about his weight/strength holding up.  Almost like a taller, skinnier Davonte Smith…..who has been able to hold up this far.  I could see him going rd 1

I agree with all this. I like Polk. That guy is tough at the catch point, catches the ball with his hands, and isn’t afraid to go across the middle. He has decent speed as well.

The problem is that I’m afraid these guys will be gone before we pick again in round 2. I agree with badoldbillz that 6-9 will prob go before then. If we want one, we will likely need to take one on the first or risk getting another guy like Davis…someone solid, but isn’t a true difference maker.

If he’s truly dealing with an injury enough to the point where he’s barely out-snapping rotational WR’s, why is he practicing in full?

If we’re limiting snaps, it seems it would be wise for him to take it easy at practice.

Maybe it’s not something that can heal with rest like that, but if it is an injury, it’s clearly affecting his ability to play a normal snap percentage.

Why? Because most fans don’t want to consider that there might be something going on that isn’t injury related. Diggs has had to be talked off the ledge the last couple seasons after the season ended, and we never saw his usage and productivity dip like this before. You think he will not be a distraction this off-season?  I just don’t see it. We might have to revamp our entire receiver corp.  yeah, there is a lot of dead money, but I think how things shake out once the season ends will be something to keep an eye on.

What ARE we talking about here?

Look at the title and OP of this thread.

No doubt his numbers have fallen off for the past month of so. What does that have to do with "3rd downs" and coaches supposedly scheming him out of the gameplan?

Since the Philly game, where he was body slammed onto his back for the 2nd week in a row, his numbers have been down. Not just on 3rd downs.

What mysterious, unknown, never-before-seen reason could be behind such a thing? A lingering back/rib issue. Easy as that.

“Easy as that”?  Don’t confuse your guesses with facts. Nobody knows what, if anything, is going on.

or….Diggs goes wild starting Sunday and helps carry us to a SB Championship and retires as a Bill in 3-4 years

This minimal isn’t some sort of strategy. Every game since before thanksgiving has been a must win. You don’t sit your best receiver in big moments waiting for the postseason when you don’t even know you will make it. You are obviously more optimistic than me. I’ll own that. But it could also be true that you are being unrealistic as well.

Yeah, the Bills who are desperate for receiver help and have limited resources are going to eat a bunch of cap to cut their only reliable wideout.

Then why are his snap counts down if he’s their only reliable receiver?  Enlighten us…

  15. I know a lot of you don’t want to consider this, but there is a very good chance that we eat money and get rid of Diggs after this season. That will only make our biggest need even bigger. There is no way he won’t be vocal about his usage once the season starts. You thought last off-season was bad?  Wait till we get eliminated this year.

I said that he doesn't pick solely on need.  If he did, Kincaid would not have been selected.  He would have reached for a linebacker or a wide receiver or an interior o-lineman.  Tight end was not a pressing need.  Like most other teams, they look at the predraft grading (value of the players) and compare that to the value of the pick. If the value of the player and value of the pick lines up for multiple players, they probably select a position of need.

I disagree again. Kincaid was the “pass catcher” that Beane talked about in his end of season conference. Yes he’s a TE, but they were chasing 12 personnel for a while and Kincaid had arguably the best hands in the draft. He’s literally exactly what Beane talked about.  Also…he did take an interior olineman in the Second and talked all off-season that they thought the successor to edmunds was already in the roster. It was posters like you that didn’t agree with that so you conveniently ignored all those comments.
