  1. What Im saying is that contrary to what Beane and other have said, need is a factor in draft selections. Some believe that team draft exclusively by best player available. Myself and others here don’t buy that entirely. I think you take the best player available given the needs on the roster. But aren’t these tiers partially, or exclusively, based on need? You obviously wouldn’t put a LT in the top tier, of you already have a franchise player under contract long term etc. This was my point.
  2. Yes it’s that in theory but I don’t think it happens is actuality. I do feel that need factors in. Case and point, last year’s draft with Edmunds. The Bills didn’t sign a replacement at MLB. They were going to fill in the need in the draft one way or another. Thats why I feel the whole BPA is a bit of ruse, which was the whole reason I asked
  3. You mean how last season they said Tyrod was part of their plans? LOL. I know what you mean. But his comment about drafting for need just seemed contradictory, because like I said, it seems like every pick is based off need Ok then why don’t teams sit almost all of their rookies? Or draft several QB’s high? It’s because they do, in fact, draft for need
  4. Seems like a reach to draft a RB like him that high. Maybe if they trade back a few picks
  5. Not really. I get the idea behind but I’m speaking in realistic terms. It’s been established by several people already, “best player available” can be someone different in actuality. You are really drafting the best player available in your area of news
  6. I get what you are saying, it just sounds very confusing. Based on what you are saying, there’s really not that much difference between the two. Unless you pull a Buddy Nix and draft EJ Manuel in the 1st round
  7. I’ll never get why the media is so quick to put out the hype from his agent. Notice how after reports came out about Rex and Miami, he didn’t even get an interview with UM or the Fins? It seems to all be orchestrated by his agent. I just don’t get why certain reporters always report it. He must give them big scoops
  8. Brandon Beane’s comments on drafting continue to confuse me. He had been firm in saying “we don’t draft for need” and that draft for need get in trouble. He has said the famous cliche “best player available.” But didn’t Beane draft for need and not BPA last year? He traded up for Josh Allen and Edmunds because QB sand MLB were a giant need! If he was drafting BPA, then he would have taken the best player available at 21 and 22. But he said in his presser at the Senior Bowl that it was drafting for need because he traded up. Huh? Didn’t he trade up to....you guessed it, draft for need? In fact, I’d argue that most teams draft for need. If they didn’t, then we’d see more team draft 2 QB’s in 1 draft or draft a QB high behind an established QB. This would be like the Jets drafting Haskins because he’s the highest ranked prospect available when they pick. They won’t do it because they already have a young QB they drafted the year earlier. Also when teams set up their board doesn’t need come into play with the rankings? One time the Bills did draft BPA, was the selection of CJ Spiller in 2009. The pick was lauded by nearly everyone in the media as foolish considering they already had a Pro Bowl RB in Marshawn Lynch and a solid backup in Fred Jackson. Yet the sick was clearly a BPA. I get the idea of drafting for need and best player available, however I think in most circumstances teams draft based on their needs. Can anyone explain what he means by drafting for need or drafting best player available. Because it seems like the Bills drafted for need last year, and that it happens all of the time. UPDATE: Sal Capaccio actually explained many of the questions that I had. Need definitely does factor into the equation...but it’s not the only indicator: https://wgr550.radio.com/articles/opinion/capaccio-brandon-beane-right-bills-shouldnt-draft-need
  9. ESPN personalities seem to be connecting Rex Ryan to the DC job in KC. Not sure if this is legit or Rex agent trying to get his co-workers to stir up excitement (like he did with the Miami job). Either way....Rex in KC would be interesting!
  10. Considering that Tom Coughlin did it twice with the same game plan, I think there’s some merit
  11. Funny because: Brady > Foles Belichick > Pederson Belichick > Schwartz Vikings > Eagles How did that work out?
  12. He has a point but it was more of a coincidence than anything. They did leave too much time for Brady but do you pass up the opportunity to score 7 points, to run some time, off the clock to potentially settle for a FG? Unfortunately for KC they scored too quickly but again I don’t think your strategy is to wind down the clock. You’re primary job is to score 7 and that’s what they did.
  13. I know what you mean. SD and KC played right into what NE wanted to do on offense. I don’t see that happening with Wade. I also see a huge advantage with Donald and Suh against the run and pass. NE has yet to face that caliber of talent up front yet.
  14. Keep in mind, people said the same thing last season. Philadelphia was an underdog and Belichick was going to school Foles into having a bad game. Jim Schwartz’s defense has never been very effective against Brady, and the secondary with Ron Darby and Cory Graham were going to burned by Brandon Cooks and Gronk. How’d that work out?
  15. Maybe he was just trying so save us Bills fans from two weeks of fellow fans lameneting about Patrick Mahomes or over-evaluating Reggie Ragland or Sammy Watkins
  16. He gets rid of the ball fast and NE had good success against the run. That’s what seemed to neutralize the pass rush. Rams can pressure him up the middle which KC was unable to do. Most of their pressure comes off the edge. I think the problem is that most teams can’t push the pocket with their DT’s alone. You can create pressure up the middle though blitzing but Brady is so good at making quick decisions that it doesn’t matter. You need to push the pocket without blitzing, like the Eagles did last year with Fletcher Cox.
  17. Looking ahead to the Super Bowl, I’m trying to see how The Rams march up against The Patriots. On paper, I think that the Rams defense has some potential advantages that Kansas City never had. - Defensive Line. Suh, Brockers, Donald and Fowler are great at rushing the passer and I think there’s a better chance that they’ll stuff the run. Fowler especially can get after the passer off the edge. Donald and Suh have the potential to push the pocket back which had traditionally hurt Brady in the Super Bowl against NYG. - Cornerbacks - Peters and Talib are far better than anyone on KC who struggled defending just about every New England WR. They also can help defend against White and other RB’s on pass routes. Nickell The Nickell - Nickell Roby Coleman made some nice played yesterday but also had a few mental mistakes. If he can bounce back, I see Roby as being a good defender against those routes to RB’s that KC can’t defend. The liability would be if Roby gets matched up on Gronk and the potential for him to outmuscle or outjump a much smaller Roby. You can probably say the same thing about most of the CB’s on the Rams. They don’t have a big defender to match up on Gronk. Wade Phillips - He’s stopped Brady and NE before and is regarded as one of the best DC’s in the game. Bob Sutton - not so much. Wade will do his homework, so I feel LAR will be better prepared than KC was. KC having zero sacks and few pressures was pathetic. In the end, I feel a lot of pressure lies on the chess match between McVay and Belichick. Like Pederson last year, McVay is going to have to have show he can manufacture points against a NE defense who will be schemed to take one part of their game away. He can’t let Goff look like Mahomes did in the first half of the game, because KC was extremely lucky to only be down by the scores. This is is where I felt Andy Reid and Mahomes failed badly, especially in the first half. Andy was outcoached by Belichick and it put the team in a hole which could have cost them in the end. McVay needs to show that he can stand up to Belichick and can’t get schooled the way Reid and Sutton did. Jared Goff is the wild card here. I can see Belichick making him look very bad, but then again I thought the same thing about Nick Foles.
  18. I’m just taking about the next few weeks, though I do think we’ve seen how you slow him down. You keep him in the pocket and make him make quick decisions. Not just Ford but the entire defense. They just allowed NE auto run right down the field. KC deserves to lose. Fair and square
  19. I do have to thank Ford. The Patriots win means we are spared from fellow Bills fans complaining about never drafting Mahomes or over-valuing Sammy Watkins and Reg Ragland.
