Starting today, the Buffalo Sabres reason for existence is to win the Stanley cup

    That  was 4.783 days ago

I think about that moment in time all the time, simply because it is no longer true.  And it's been that way for several years now.

Granato should have been fired in January at the latest.  He wasn't.

He should be fired, FOR SURE, at the end of the season in a few days.  He won't be.

Why? B/C winning a Cup is not Pegula's end goal now.  It is to make the team profitable and he is more committed to how he runs the team, i.e., no more eating of Ks, than winning.

Don't listen to what these guys tell you, watch what they DO, or chose not to do.  When Donny survives this off-season, you will KNOW FOR SURE it's not about winning.

It's also why we let Mike Peca slip out of the organization.  Too strong, successful, and popular a guy for the operation they are trying to run.

This is not the opening game which will be KC v someone. This is the 2nd game the next night which the NFL is trying to market by the peacock crap again. Lucky for me I could care less and will be at a concert outdoors ignoring their BS again

When the NFL says "pay money for channel x or you can't watch this game" I respond by NOT watching game and pursuing any one of my  1 million other interests in life.  It's important that most NFL fans respond in kind, so the message is sent that this won't work.

  3. Just heard tonight's attendance was announced as 14,000 and change.

No way in HELL it was anything close to that number.

It looked more like an 8,000 person crowd all night on TV.

The bulk of entire sections down by the glass empty.

My bias against McDermott is well documented.

Wondering how others view his post-season PC and recent interview calling critics narrow minded. He also stated its hard to win in the NFL. I recall a prior HC pilloried on this site for saying the exact same words.

My take on the PC was that he was very defensive. Without even being asked. He launched into a defense of his tenure as coach even dating back to prior seasons.

And now he calls critics narrow minded for wondering if the Bills will win a SB with him as HC. You have to belive at this point the thought has crossed Beane and Pegula's mind. He's trying to defend at best status quo to perhaps taking a step or two back from 13 seconds.

Then the most ridiculous statement of all.

"We're looking for Josh to really be that face of the franchise, like he's been, and continue to evolve."

I mean WTF. What team has he been coaching? Does he think Hyde and Poyer were the face of the franchise?? Is he trying to lay blame on Allen? Without Allen McDermott might be coaching DBs in Kansas City.  Was Allen on the field when the defense crumbled multiple times against Denver,Philadelphia, and others. KC only stopped themselves in the playoff game. If not for a goal line fumble the Bills are not even close in that game.

It may not seem that I'm open minded but I really try. I've gave McDermott praise many times last year.

So what does the board think?

For those that crucified Jauron how do you take the It’s hard to win in the NFL line?

For those that defend McDermott, what do you all think?

Not if, but WHEN we bow out of the playoffs yet again next year, the window for Pegula to ditch McDimwit might start to open.

I don't think his firing is a sure thing however.

As long as he's here managing games from the sidelines, and favoring D over O with a top 2 or 3 QB in the league, don't expect much to change in terms of the big picture.

The current team is in China block not Maryland.    WTF team is in Maryland.

There is no such thing as urban planning in NOVA; it's a hell hole.

  6. Don't expect Granato to be fired.  Terry is done paying people not to work for him; I think that directive went out to the organization about 4 or 5 years ago.

We are not functioning as a legitimate, competitive, NHL franchise.

That's how you go 13 years without playoffs.

Greed. Most self-absorbed billionaires are driven by it.

MOST?  They ALL are.  Only a billionaire NFL owner would have the unmitigated gall to demand someone else pay for his team's playground.

They should go and the fans in KC should figure out some other ways to fill their free time.

    F the NFL.

I'm glad he bought the Bills and Sabres, and kept them in Buffalo, but what he's done to the Sabres is truly dispiriting.

I think this is a very common attitude, but I'm not like that.  The Sabres are not even operating as a real, competitive, professionally run NHL organization.  If we are going to be a perpetual irrelevancy, move the team.  What's the loss?

Hockey is nothing close to the game I fell in love with as a kid anyway.  Much more boring product IMO.

Just finished watching us quit in the 3rd period of the Oilers game.  We're a long way from being a solid hockey team.

I think Granato has to go at this point, but he will NOT go.

If he's around next year, you'll know it's still business as usual in Sabre land.

Vancouver is a good example that becoming a good NHL team isnt splitting the atom.  Theyy play in Rick Tocchet's likeness and grind the other team to a pulp.

They had 83 points last season and are like the best team in the NHL this year.  The Sabres had 91 points, obsess about learning, growth and maximizing communications and tell us that "success is seldom linear", and predictably take a step backward.

We have a very soft team and too many players with exactly the same makeup.

Need greater diversity on the roster and more grit.

A rock solid starting goalie would help a lot too, though 6k has been pretty solid this year.

When we miss the playoffs again, I do believe Granato should go; and I have always liked him too.

  10. This guy has made $7 MILLION in career earnings so far!

Just amazing how rich you can get, being literally below average, in today's sports scene.

The NHL is filled with nobodies making 2 or 3 million a year who will never be worth a damned as a player, but they make up the numbers and will enjoy a 10 year career being crap.

The Hunt family are sports men and hire the right people to win. The Bills keep mediocrity management for years hoping next season will be different. The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills are night and day different the way they go about there football business. If Josh Allen was with the Kansas City Chiefs he would already have multiple Super Bowls under Andy Reid and the Hunt Family already in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go Buffalo

This is true, but I feel this next off-season (after 2024 season), when we bow out of the playoffs yet again at roughly the same point...it might be different.

I.E., I do NOT think Pegula has had McDimwit on the hot seat, ever, but he will put him there after the next season.

So there's a chance for improvement there.  Just my guess.

Pegula may be content to keep McDummy around forever, I don't know.

Normally I am not an advocate of drafting "BPA".  I think most GMs that say they do lie anyways. At best it is usually BPA at a position of need.

However this year may be the year to just sit back and let the draft come to you.

As of today, the only starting spot open is Safety.  That may yet be addressed in FA but even if not they can take one on day 2 with a little maneuvering.  They can justify drafting backups and future replacements at most levels.

I'd be perfectly happy if Beane traded around to get the deep speed WR with size this team lacks. Then just take BPA the rest of the way. You could make an argument for just about every position even taking a backup QB that might have trade value in a year or two. OL, DL, RB, DB, and you can always use a backup LB for teams. Pick up a punter on day 3.

Also, perceived BPA is not BPA!  No one knows who the best available player is.

IF they did, the draft selection list each year would be a lot different to what it is.

That’s an amazing piece.  Keep it away from direct sunlight and it will last for generations.

Have OJ's legal problems/reputation caused his football collectibles to sink in value, or soar?

I can see it going either way.

    Just wondering.

    Not a fan of this.

We will be taking a clear step back next season.

We may very well take a step back next year, but it won't be b/c of the cuts that were made.

This team was always going to look a lot different in 2024.

  15. I'm reading through the thread here and getting an idea for a cool TV series..

Set when there were multiple "human like" species wandering around the Earth.  That's a weird and creepy time in the evolution of man.

With modern CGI and special effects, I bet you could get the various character to look quite convincing.

Imagine if you could go out in the woods today and find 99% human-like creatures...that weren't human!

    Weird!

The tre white and Von miller contracts were unlucky. The Knox contract was arguably bad judgment on Beanes part.

Unlucky, huh?  Well, if you support all things Buffalo Bills at all times, I guess you would write that.

Others might suggest there were hugely foreseeable and easily avoided mistakes.

Knox never looked like the real deal and dumping that huge money into a marquis pass rusher at the end of his career was ALWAYS going to be a folly.

    Always WILL be a folly.

Kind of like throwing giant money at the biggest named FA on the first day of FA signings.  The best GMs don't do that crap.
