After a few days here, I got to thinking. What would happen if the coaches stayed where they are, but Allen and Mahomes switched teams? Or the opposite, the rosters stayed the same, but Reid and McDermott switched places? Which team would be better off? I guess the real question here is: Is what Reid does with the KC offense (creating decisions for the defense that gets players like Kelsey open in tough situations, or getting big runs when needed...) something that is tailored just to Mahomes and his skill set? Or would Allen be just as successful in that offense? Would Mahomes be just as dynamic in Brady's offense here? I guess my real frustration comes from watching teams like the Chiefs get players open in space, when we appear to have so much trouble getting that open space? Is it scheme (from the coaches calling plays), or is it talent (running the plays called)?

Is it the Jimmys and Joes, or the Xs and Os?!?!?!?

If Reid comes here, we get a championship; Reid would have a field day tailoring an offense around Josh and what he brings to the table.

Mahomes is the best in the game and the KC team overall is excellent.  If McDermott goes there, they might get a SB, but it would be a lot harder, and it would only happen 1 time instead of 3 or 4 more times with Reid.

First of all, there is nothing in that story that is news. We've known this since the end of the game. Secondly, he took a one-year "prove it" deal. He proved it. Now a bad team with cap space will overpay. It's the circle of life.

I think this is right.  He did a nice job for us...let him go get paid.

Why should he take a discount to stay here?

I want people to list off some of McDermotts best coaching moments that you can remember which directly impacted the outcome of a game in a positive way. You guys think McDermott deserves another year? Prove it and post each scenario/evidence as to why you believe McDermott deserves another shot.

You lost half the posters here with the "magnum opus" reference in the thread title.

The other half think it's a reference to an Icelandic strong man.

Glad they are leaving no stone unturned.

I hear they are also building a robust analytics department....

If they are actually interviewing people from the OUTSIDE, for real, I'll be impressed.

I thought Brady would already have the permanent job by now.

I'll be shocked if they bring in a big name or someone with some clout; McDermott will want an underling he can walk on.

Florio (yes I know)suggested Bill is waiting for Andy Reid to retire after this year so he can coach Mahomes

That would be perfect and so Billsy.  We have another disappointing season next year, McDermott gets the boot, we need a HC, but BB goes to KC instead.

Missing the opportunity to couple the greatest HC of all time with Josh doesn't come up every day.

I'm starting to really get pissed regarding my 2 teams (Bills and Sabres) being owned and run by a moron.

My wish with the Sabres for about 5 years now is to simply ask Pegula to sell the team and move on.

The ONLY way Reid retires anytime soon is if he has some sort of health issue that we don't know about. Because if he retires and walks away from Mahomes he better hope he never gets that coaching itch again in a year or two.

Well, he does appear to be about 250 pounds overweight, and I can only guess as to what that guy's diet has looked like these last 65 years.....guy is a frontrunner to drop of a heart attack at any moment.

Record braking numbers, HOF induction, 10 straight AFCE Champ, 0 SB appearances.  Best QB to never make a SB.  Sounds funny, right?  That's his current trajectory with Coach Mcd.

Lots of Bills fans pretend that this type of trajectory is somehow impossible!  Look around the league over the years.  There have been a lot of great QBs who never got it done.  Marino immediately comes to mind.

When Dan was where Josh is now, Marino's "KC, Reid, and Mahomes" CEILING was called "The Buffalo Bills."

They just couldn't get past us when it mattered in our SB years.

I feel it's the same now with Josh and KC OR the current iteration of the BENGALS.

Don't forget about them!  They magically were removed from the NFL, effectively, this year...and we still didn't capitalize!

Next year it will be back to business as usual and we do NOT match up well against that team AT ALL.

  8. I voted PHILLIP RIVERS simply because that's what he has shown us to be on pace for SO FAR, and I honestly think it will be difficult to convince Idiot Pegula to move on from McDermott.

Until a better HC and overall philosophy is here, I do not believe we will win a SB.

By the time Pegula figures it out, the running/legs part of Josh's game will probably be gone.  There's probably only another 3 good years for that. He won't be the same player, and getting that SB victory will become even harder.

And remember, the day we find out McD is GONE...it is not some magical new team.  There will be a lag time before the "new" team emerges and is ready to compete for a title.  Probably 2 to 3 years.

Time is of the essence!  Pegula does NOT realize this.

Pegula is too busy completely destroying the Sabres franchise to realize action is needed THIS OFF SEASON.

Knocks on him are that he is easy to jam and lacks frame.  Bills need someone who can get contested balls with a bigger body.

I agree, but the Bills have never really prioritized that, and I don't see us looking for that kind of WR specifically.  That's not our game.  We want quick shifty guys who can get separation and run elusive routes.

We aren't really going to be looking for a 6'4" big body that you just throw the ball to and let him out-muscle the DB draped all over him for the catch.

What we need is speed, ability to separate, athleticism, and explosiveness.

We really don't have any of that on the team right now.

Our YAC has been atrocious for year now.

He is going to need to adjust and start trusting and playing young players/rookies because of the Bills cap situation.

Can't teach an old dog new tricks.  Read the Ty Dunne piece.  It's his way or the highway, McDimwit is that kind of guy.

Last off-season, some clueless wide-eyed Bills fan started a thread here talking about the insane stats he anticipated from Dalton Kincaid in his rookie campaign.  I pointed out that he won't get the opportunity from McD to get those kinds of stats, as McD doesn't play rookies.  The injury to Knox helped, but Kincaid finished with 673 yards and 2 TDs.  People live in dream worlds.

Don't expect too much change from McDimwit.

In fact, expect us to become MORE run heavy.

Tyler Dunne is spot on. Great article I don’t understand how at the very least we couldn’t have told Sean McDermott hey we’re going to explore other options at head coach in the next few weeks. We are not firing you unless we find someone we think will maximize Josh Allens talents and get us to a Super Bowl more than you can.

It’s an off-season that has Hall of Fame coaches just sitting there for the taking. Why not at least check it out.  What’s the worst that happens if we do that? McD gets pissy and resigns. Well thank God for that.

I'm all in favor of this!  But you don't do it that way.  You don't tell McDermott "hey we might fire you in a few weeks, but if we don't find anyone better, we'll keep you!"

Imagine saying that to your current girlfriend.

What Pegula should be doing, perhaps with Beane's help depending on how he wants to do it, is to be sniffing around on the quiet, and see if there is genuine interest in the Bills on the part of the candidate.

Get BB down to Pegula's 10,000 sq.ft. palace in Boca and wine and dine him for a day or 2....and see if him coming to Buffalo could be a real thing.

If not, BB gets in some fishing down here and hangs out in a glorious house, though he probably has one of his own!

    LOL

Yes, I am quite sure the self made billionaire will take his advice in a Bills Coach from a failed journalist.  Makes perfect sense.

Not sure how bright you are, but Ty Dunne is most certainly not a "failed journalist."

In fact, he enjoys quite an excellent reputation around the NFL inner circle.

I guess he wrote some bad things about your HC so now you've decided he is a failed journalist.

Writing it doesn't make it so!

WOW! He was the best part of this team. Back to the cellar where you belong, Miami

LOL; Miami's defense was HORRID for much of the season, though in their defense they did improve as the season wore on.

Fangio is an older timer; I can see where he didn't fit the mold down in Miami, which is about the future of football, not the past.

  13. It's interesting that apparently Harbaugh to Chargers is a done deal, as I think that would have been the most desirable stop for Bill among teams looking for a coach this year.

Opening the door that much more for us to sign him up.

Pegula can give him a "birthday present" of whatever 60 foot fishing boat he wants, and a slip in Erie Basin Marina.

Oh, and double whatever New England paid him.

Don't give him General Manager powers, however.  I do NOT think BB would argue that at this stage of his career.

He's getting older, but that guy as our HC is the stuff of dreams.

If it goes south after 2 years, we will be NO FURTHER BEHIND than where we are going to be with McDermott, anyway.

NOT!!!! another narrative debunked. Playoff performance all time

That's post-season.  In the regular season, he is 100% a turnover machine.  As I write every time this comes up, the good outweighs the bad with Josh so it's not an issue.

He's clearly too conservative and careful with the ball for us to take the next step.

I know you are making a joke but that was Tyrod Taylor.

The man was utterly AFRAID to throw the ball, and had a league leading turnover rating as a result. Of course, we didn't have any offense either.

It really did seem like he was injured, but we haven't heard anything about that being the case yet. Extremely concerning if he in fact was healthy.

If he had been injured, we would know about it by now.

He had a disappointing end to the season, and dropped that 1 huge bomb in the Chiefs game, but I don't think he "quit."  That's kind of ridiculous.

Is he getting older? Yes.  Is that going to have a serious impact on his game next year and beyond?

I don't know.  Have to see.  Glad he's still here.

Having said that, if he could be packaged in a blockbuster deal that brought real quality back, I'd definitely consider it seriously.
