This is what I have been saying.  The last 20 years, only one SB team had a WR1 taken in the top 15 picks.  There has never been any team in NFL history to make a huge investment to acquire a WR via trading for a proven one or trading up to draft one and win a SB.  There isn't even a team who signed an expensive one in FA that won a SB.

Making a large investment in a WR via draft picks or free agency spending has a 0% success rate...aka 100% fail rate...in taking a team and getting them over the hump to win a Super Bowl.

Look at what Miami paid for Tyreek Hill who has been arguably the best WR in the NFL (him or Jefferson) the past 2 years and Miami can't even win their division with a 4 game lead late in the season and has 0 playoff wins.  Or look at Raiders an Davante Adams.  Even NE when they had Moss actually LOST in the Super Bowl, although they didn't invest a lot to get him.

Now go look at the top 5 WR's in the NFL...more often than not, they are not on teams in the Super Bowl, let alone winning it.

This board has had an unhealthy obsession with WR as if not having the best WR's is the reason we lose.  We lost in 2020 because we were the worst team on the field in that game.  We lost in 2021 because of our defense.  We lost in 2022 because we got dominated in the trenches and couldn't run the ball in bad elements.  We lost in 2023 because we had no Linebackers and KC abused that mismatch and we couldn't even get Mahomes dirty.

We have never been eliminated because we didn't have enough weapons.  Our stable of weapons the last 4 years is better than a lot of Super Bowl winning teams offensive stables.  We had a top 5, arguably top 3, WR for the past 4 seasons and we have lost in the 2nd round 3 straight seasons.

I mean, I want a WR early in this draft too, we all do.  But this notion we must mortgage the farm to go get one has 0 examples of ever working and weakens a cap strapped team from building the overall roster.  I mean next year, we have a first and 2 seconds to keep adding more ammo to this team, and people want to give it away like sticks of gum.  Not to mention, this is maybe the best WR draft in history, even less need to make a major move.

I agree. I really hope Buffalo stays put in the draft and let someone fall to them. This draft is absolutely loaded at that position. I don’t mind a slight trade up, but not at the expense of any high future draft picks.

    Matt Milano.

The all pro best LB on the roster, whos replacement was already drafted.  Would it be crazy for them to trade him now on an attempt to move up? Possibly.

But he has had some availability issues over the years. And the negative is him coming off a knee injury, but otherwise this would be a perfect sell high moment.

If a team was willing, it would be perhaps the best way to move up without sacrificing a boatload of future picks

Yes, let’s get rid of one of the few legit super stars on this team in their prime. No thanks. Look no further than the Kansas City game to see how much they missed his presence. Bernard/Milano are a top 3 LB tandem and probably the best in the NFL when it comes to pass coverage. Definitely one of the biggest bright spots for the team this coming season. McDermott has to be excited drawing up plays for those 2.

  3. You can’t deny the dudes talent. He is definitely in the conversation of GOAT running back and would’ve dominated in any era. OJs 2k season was not just his own accomplishment, but also pure dominance by the offensive line.

So, nothing! You have nothing, again, to back your statement--just a bunch of general nonsense?

Yikes, and almost funny--if this exact kind of behavior wasn't becoming a way of life for about 30% of Americans.

Knock yourself out, buddy. This is what I found in 3 minutes of searching.

Everybody here knows how much Allen has been criticized about being a turnover machine despite those interceptions usually not having an effect on the Bills winning games. Their record for the past 5 years speaks for itself.

What’s really funny is you judging me because of a disagreement on a message board.

FWIW, I share @Mister Defense's question about where and what is this anti-Allen criticism?  Don't tell me it's all over, show me what you mean.

    Thanks.

I’m not going to screen shot every comment I see. A ton of people here agree that Allen has been criticized allover social media. Anybody that spends a decent amount of time online reading tweets, FB/IG, and reads articles are aware of this. A lot of journalists have held onto their hate since Allen was drafted because they ended looking so stupid afterwards.

Hey, are you almost done with the information I and others requested to back up your original post?

Seems like it should be extremely easy for you to find, as you actually quoted some of it.

Looking forward to you providing the details, evidence, you mention, so that we can more realistically and adequately answer the questions you pose in your OP.

Thanks in advance, once again, for getting that information out asap, info that was clearly needed in the original post. But, better late than never!

Otherwise you merely smear our quarterback with BS nonsense, when you propose to be defending him...

If you had any doubt before, look at all the anti-Allen crap coming out since the Diggs trade.

Edit: sure didn’t affect Mahomes when Tyreek Hill left

Anyone else wildly relieved that Diggs is gone?

Loved what he did for us, but he was & is the diva Vikings fans were talking about when we traded for him.

I couldn’t be more relieved. I thought it was all but an impossibility due to his contract. No WR except Randy Moss or Terrell Owen’s is worth that amount of drama. If you’re going to talk **** then at least back it up on the field. Year after year Diggs has disappeared in the post-season being outshined by Gabe Davis and Shakir last season. Dude comes here and puts up career numbers even leading the league in receiving yards one year, numbers he never had in Minnesota and yet still feels the need to complain. Have fun being the 2nd option in Houston. I bet he doesn’t even crack 1000 yards. I can’t wait until the real truth comes out down the road. I bet it’s even worse than we all thought. This is the definition of “addition by subtraction.”

Remember when Robert Foster had over 500 yards the final 8 games of the season, and everybody here was saying he was gonna be a 1/2? Kinda feels like that with all the hype Shakir is getting.

Everybody ? I certainly didn’t feel that way. Somebody has to get targets and Foster was just the best out of a group of trash receivers.

Here’s the problem Parsons is legit the best defensive player in the league just approaching his prime there’s a pretty good chance the other guys go who said this before him as Jerry will find out.

Sure didn’t look like the best when they played Buffalo or against the Niners in the divisional round. Not saying he’s not great, but I don’t think he’s the best. I think Nick Bosa is much more of a well rounded pass rusher.

The question of Elite players keeps coming up and is a fair question.  Besides Milano (when healthy) and Taron Johnson, who is the elite player on the Bils defense? Trying to be objective, I think the answer is potentially Benard.  Being "elite" is also a very hard question.  Neither Hyde or Poyer were considered elite when the Bills signed them.

On offense, I think we have elite players.  Allen, Cook, Dawkins, and Kincaid are all elite players.  Torrence and possibly Shakir have that potential as well if they build on last season.  Cook finished 4th in rushing and 3rd in scrimmage yards by a RB last season.  That's elite production.

That's very fair, especially Hyde, Poyer and Diggs.

Wasn’t the Toney Offside call the difference in making the playoffs last year? The margin for error was already pretty thin, and now they’ve lost a ton of quality players. It shouldn’t be a shock if a few people are doubting the Bills.

It wasn’t the difference. Even if the penalty wasn’t called, there was still plenty of time on the clock.

Heading into the draft in 2022 I posted about keeping an eye on Shakir and the Bills.  I missed rounds 3 and 4 and came back to the draft right as we were announcing our pick in the 5th having no idea he was still on the board and was stunned when they called his name and thought I misheard it because I figured he would go in rounds 2 or 3.  I was thrilled when we called his name, maybe the most excited I have ever been about a pick that wasn't an early round choice, and I have been maybe his biggest cheerleader since getting here.  Ive got a pretty good track record on WR's around here, and he was one I felt from the get go was going to be different and develop into a great player for us.

Ive posted threads and countless comments about him since we took him, and here is a quote back in early May after the draft showing an example of that belief in him early on and not just since his mini breakout this year.

Now after reading that above from May of 2022...watch this highlight video and tell me that doesn't look spot on to how I described hm.  From how he plays as a WR, to how he has some Deebo and AJ Brown in him with the ball in his hands.

SHAKIR HIGHLIGHTS CLICK HERE (highly suggest you watch before commenting to at least see what I am referencing)

This man is an excellent route runner...has sure hands...runs a 4.43 forty...is shifty...excels with YAC and is tough when running...and he is a smart player.  Most importantly, he has the drive to be great and trains in the offseason with players like Moulds.  His biggest shortcoming is he doesn't have long arms which makes him less of a go up and get it WR, but we don't need him to be that when he is so good at everything else.

    2023 Stats: 87% Catch Rate, 39 Rec on 45 Targets, 611 Yards (13.5 yards per TARGET - insane), 15.6 YPC, 2 TD's

Diggs had 160 targets in 2023 for 1183 yards.  Now I know Diggs is drawing the best of the defense a lot of the times, so its not an apples to apples comparison.  But just out of curiosity, what does Shakir's season look like on 160 targets based on his stats last year?

    Diggs:  160 Targets, 107 Rec, 1183 yards, 8 TD's

    Shakir:  160 Targets, 139 Rec, 2160 yards, 7 TD's

Again, I know that is an unrealistic comparison given the level of defensive attention both got and how Shakir benefits from the extra attention Diggs takes.  BUT...that is a massively different level of efficiency and effectiveness.  And defenses STILL will have to contend with Shakir, what ever rookie we draft, Kincaid, Samuel, Knox, Cook as receiver and Allen running.  So Shakir still should see plenty of opportunities against the defenses moving forward.

I mean, even if he just gets up to 100 targets, that is still a 1,350 yard season, and make no mistake about it, he very well could (and probably should) see 100 targets this year.  He is going to be the ONLY WR with any experience and rapport with Josh entering camp, he definitely caught Josh's attention and the teams last year and became a play making machine who they trust.  This team notoriously likes to ease Rookies in as much as they can, so doubtful any rookie is coming in commanding anywhere near Diggs target share.

Dorsey was an idiot for not using him in 2022 when we needed help bad in the slot...he was a bigger fool for not getting him involved earlier in 2023.  In Joe Bradys first game, Shakir had his first career 100 yard game and would go on to end the season with another one.  Diggs had 0 games with 100 yards during that stretch.

In the aftermath of the Diggs trade...the time is now.  I think you will see Shakir emerge as a legit WR and legit weapon for this team and not only will he break 1000 yards this year, he very well may lead the team in both receptions and yards.  And I think he is one of the reasons they felt confident to trade Diggs now rather than later.

You heard it hear first...and have been hearing it here about him since before the 2022 draft.

    #WitnessTheArrival

People are definitely sleeping on Shakir. I love his physicality and hands. I think he can evolve into more than just a slot WR. I am so excited to see what he can do along w/ Kincaid. Glad Diggs the diva is gone. I want a ball distribution offense

Give it up man....we are looking at a 2 year re-tooling phase right now.  It's not a bad thing.  Bills will be fine in the long run.  You are nuts if your expectation is a Super Bowl win in 2024

Why is it nuts ? Buffalo nearly beat the Chiefs last year without their whole LB core. Diggs was a total non-factor and IMO a real distraction his last couple years. God bless him for his help in Josh’s development, but his time was up and I am ecstatic they got something out of it.

It's almost like I called this exact response by NFL fans & the media months ago during the season... people just didn't want to believe it.

If you're terminally online (like I tend to be on my days off) & step outside of the Bills bubble, you'll see many NFL fans had turned Allen into a meme. The turnovers were too noticeable, the Bills under performing throughout the season was a huge talking point, and losing a 3rd time to the Chiefs in the playoffs only served as confirmation bias for what people already believed.

Even if it's dumb, only significant team success can change the narrative at this point.

The most annoying part is how much credit Burrow gets for LOSING a Super Bowl 3 seasons ago. Isn't the goal to win a SB? I get he made it further, but so what? People talk about him like he's already got a ring. He's lucky his defense stepped up in the 2nd half of that AFCCG & Mahomes completely collapsed, otherwise he wouldn't even have that going for him.

Unfortunately, head-to-head matters, and everyone remembers how thoroughly the Bengals walked all over us in our own building. Then the rematch this year didn't go well either, so all people see is Josh is 0-2 against Burrow, and 0-3 against Mahomes in the playoffs.

The narrative is dumb, but it won't change until Josh changes the narrative.

Same here. The haters are coming out in droves, but I guarantee they would give their left nut to have him as their teams QB

I thought not having the backup quarterback of the defense in there was devastating, especially give how much the team’s top tier pass rush relied on scheme in 2023.

Then McDermott should’ve schemed something up. I’m not an X&O guy, but anything would’ve been better than that **** show

Sorry but you lost me once you mentioned Herbert. The guy is talented but Lamar has done so much more than Herbert has at this point

Herbert doesn’t have the coaching LJ has.

Um we lose to Patrick Mahomes. He loses to Ryan Tannehill as the 1 seed and throws a 99 yard pick six vs us.

At this point in their careers, Allen has better playoff numbers and far more playoff wins.

If you polled random NFL fans that weren’t Bills or Ravens fans about who was a better playoff performer, Allen would win a landslide. It’s actually not close.

Lamar Jackson is the most overrated QB of this generation. When I say overrated, I am not saying he’s BAD, but he’s not in the same league as Burrow, Mahomes, Allen, or even Herbert. LJ benefits from an elite coaching staff/GM. He’s a juiced up Tyrod Taylor. A game manager w/ some game breaking ability. Take away his running and he’s a fringe starter at best. He’s got a great arm, but is just too inconsistent. Ultimately, a QB’s job is to throw the ball. Allen can chuck it from anywhere and even when he eventually loses some speed, his strength will still allow him to extend plays and maneuver the pocket. Jackson is going into year 7 and I don’t see anything changing, he continuously lets his team down in the playoffs whereas it’s the other way around for Allen. Harbaugh is going to have resurrect the 2000 Raven’s defense in order to win a SB.

Agree,  The defense scheme has pretty much failed every post season, yet we continue to roll out the same soft zone / contain style defense annually, at some point one would think that some modifications for the post season are in order.

I as well think Shaw66 in correct in how he describes how Josh can be a better QB for the team, that does not mean it Josh’s fault all the time, it just means he could stand to improve an aspect of his craft, just as our post season defense could stand improvement…,  when a team is good like the Bills, it’s the incremental improvements that will put them over the top, jmo.

It’s pretty ridiculous. The Chiefs have been pretty inconsistent the entire season, but moved the ball at will against us. Only putting up 17 against the Ravens. So give Josh Baltimore’s defense and we would’ve won decisively.

  18. He was balling out with Washington w/ mediocre QB (Heineken was a gritty player though.) Samuel is gonna put up career numbers w/ Allen at the helm. I can’t wait. He’s a solid #2. I like the physicality he has plus he has some running ability. I hope they put him in a Deebo type role and get creative.
