You rarely get inspired by today’s pros but the world could use a little more Alex Smith. The pure grit he showed in coming back from this, and really, for nothing more than to prove to himself that he could. It’s remarkable and inspirational. He has to be a pretty special person to do what he has.

Alex Smith has proven the world wrong again & again. Most labeled him a bust and he went on to have a very successful career. He was instrumental in the development of Mahomes.

Not understanding how sports work is a problem for most people. Just because you improved, doesn't mean that you are going to hit the same numbers every year.

Mookie Betts, one of the best baseball players in the last decade, hit .346 in 2018 for the Red Sox and led the league in batting average. He's never come close to that again before or since. It was a career outlier.

Calvin Johnson caught 122 balls and had 1964 yards receiving in 2012. Both led the NFL. Never approached those numbers before or after.

Virtually every good athlete has them. Seasons where every thing comes together and you get a magical statistical season. I am willing to bet Cook's will be last year with his 18 TDs.

I will bet he probably only hits double digits for TDs again no more than once in his career.

You’re right. 18 TDs most likely won’t happen again, but you don’t think Cook will hit double digit TDs ever again? In the best offense in the game? He will certainly have his opportunities, the Bills are trending further & further away from Josh in the goal line and short yardage situations. Why keep getting your quarter of a billion dollar QB pummeled? Hand off to the guys that are paid to get those yards.

If we can sort of set aside his ridonkulous rushing TD total in '24, Cook was actually more productive overall in '23 in 3 fewer starts, and especially more productive in the passing game. In 2024, Ty Johnson really ate into Cook's passing volume following his own tantalizing 100% catch rate in limited 2023 action: 7/7 (LOL) for 62 yards, 2 1sts, and a TD. Johnson still has not recorded a dropped pass in 2 seasons with the Bills, despite an uptick in targets and a jump in depth of target. And he can pass block, apparently, at a higher level.

The RB room in 2025 is probably as close to McBeane's ideal vision as we're going to get, unless there is some absolute RB UNIT (big Wisconsin/Alabama style back) available on late day 2/early day 3 of the 2026 draft...to replace Cook and spell Davis on early downs and short yardage.

There’s a reason Josh proclaims him the best 3rd down RB in the NFL. I really am curious as to what TJ would look like in a 1-2 punch or even in a starting role. He’s big, adequate speed, elite hands, and great blocker.

Don't dismiss it, but also don't dismiss the combined 4 rushing TD's he had the two years prior. I would expect a serious regression to the mean. Much more likely to have 6-8 TDs this year than 16(18 counting receiving TDs as well) again.

Would expect last year's output to likely be an outlier over his career and likely his career high point, and you never pay someone based on an outlier year---well, I mean poorly run teams do it a lot, but it's not something you want to see the Bills do.

Bills paying him based on a career best year is not a wise financial decision.

TDs aren’t easy to score. Cook had 18 because he Improved. Not bc of luck.

Was lucky enough to be there as a kid. This is the game, and really the moment, that pops into my head whenever the 90s teams are referenced.

That real life image of the FG being blocked and and the ball just hanging in the air for what seems like forever with Bennett the only one underneath it. Just waiting to catch it and take it to the house. We could all see what was coming.

And it's also a great summary of how magical and dominant those teams were. We were never out of it until the clock hit 0:00. And even then theres a chance...

Makes you appreciate having an all around great team where you can score and make big plays in all 3 phases. Seems like Buffalo had super stars in all of them. This is what’s obviously lacking these days. A little harder to have special teams players that can affect the outcome these days though.

Not counting a Super bowl victory, how much more would Josh have to accomplish to be elected to the Hall of Fame?

Nothing. Josh could retire tomorrow and get in. He revolutionized the position. Arguably the #1 QB in the NFL if people pull their heads out of their asses and realize it is a TEAM GAME. The numbers don't lie, the film doesn't either. This is why I hold players like DAN MARINO, DREW BREES, and RIVERS in higher regard than most fans. Even Jim Kelly. Is it his fault Norwood missed that kick? Is it Marino's fault the Dolphins defense was hot garbage and his skill players were mid? Is it Allen's fault the defense craps the bed in the worst times imaginable?

I'm like...well we are still one of the only places left that still has active families, especially in Niagara Falls 🤣

Wait, there is still the Mob in Buffalo? Interesting. I wonder what kind of crime they are into these days.

Wow. Miami fleeced them. I think they finally realized that Jalen Ramsey has been Josh Allen’s B word for the entirety of his career. The Dolphins are in desperation mode. Allen has been destroying that defense since he came into the league. Time to do something different. Minkah Fitzpatrick is a complete Safety. Not sure what the Steelers are thinking, but this isn’t good for the Bills. Will it amount to wins?

Man, that’s not fair to Baker. He’s coming off 4,500 yards and 41 TDs. He had 4,000 and 28 TDs the prior year. Him being suggested makes me uncomfortable.

To answer the question, I think Tua, Lawrence and Darnold are the guys that would qualify. It’s tough to want to move on from them but you don’t win because of them IMO.

Darnold just threw for 4320 yards and 35 TDs. Add another 210 on the ground. He is FAR from the worst starting QB. I think he has a chance to turn it around ala Baker Mayfield.  Edit: Mayfield was pretty good in Cleveland so he didn’t really “turn it around.” Mainly injuries were his downfall. I’ll use Rich Gannon as a better example. People don’t understand just how much a terrible franchise w/ terrible ownership & coaching can affect a young (or old) QB. People will see when Aaron Rodgers all of the sudden becomes good again on the Steelers. We saw it with Geno too. I even think Zack Wilson will have a career renaissance at some point. I don’t even think Mahomes or Allen would’ve survived the Jets. I am rooting for Sam Darnold. I liked him at USC. The Jets set him up for failure.

In regards to the original question. Worst starting QB to me is Anthony Richardson. This is what happens when you draft someone based on pure measurables/athleticism. Colts FO thought they were getting the next Josh Allen. Instead, they got the next Jamarcus Russell. I want to give an honorable mention to Bryce Young. I would’ve chose him, but he started to pick it up later in the season even taking the Chiefs down to the wire. He doesn’t have many weapons so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Gambling has been around forever. Why would it ruin the NFL now. I have been in my company's office pool for a long time now. We also do a Super Bowl pool every year. It's fun and it makes the games you don't really care who wins more interesting if you have money on it.

True, but I don’t remember an instance when a sport actually partnered up w/ gambling companies. Was there ? I can’t recall..

If sportsbooks want to run ads fine, I just hate how much gambling has become a part of broadcasts. I don't care to hear what parlay Terry Bradshaw has cooked up in the pregame show, or for the announcers to give me the updated live odds throughout the game.

Yes, it’s completely ruining the integrity.

WyoBillsFan. Yes. I do remember the blog. I hope she is doing well.

I started posting there when I was 15 so it had a big effect on me. I remember a guy named SaviorEdwards who was the biggest Trent Edwards glazer on the planet. He started a trend of posters like SaviorBrohm.

  12. I think the eventual downfall of the NFL will be either CTE or gambling. The ads are plastered literally everywhere and impossible to escape. And they make it so much easier than in the past because now you can wager your entire life savings in a matter of minutes within the comfort of your home. Before it was a process so you had time to think about what you were doing.

It’s a huge exploitation of the fan base IMO. One of the most (if not THE most) dangerous addictions you can have, I’ve actually known a couple people who ended their lives due to losing insane amounts of money. The fact that the NFL is so heavily in bed with alcohol & gambling companies sickens me. It’s a slap in the face to the hardworking fans who line their pockets.

So I stand by my opinion. Gambling and by default GREED is going to ruin this once great sport. What’s sad is it’s going on in all levels so it’s not like I can switch to college football. I know shady stuff has been happening in pro sports since the 1919 World Series, but I believe the problem is much more rampant. What’s to stop a referee from throwing a couple flags to affect the point spread? There are BILLIONS at stake for these companies. It makes collusion even more likely between them and the NFL.

I migrated here cause the actual BBMB was a steaming pile of dung, ya dig?

Disagreed The original BBMB was awesome. There were so many weird characters on there. Some were absolutely nuts, but that’s what gave it charm. Reminds me of the internet in its Wild West days before everything got washed down & sanitized. Even Chris Brown posted there. The community felt a lot closer and there a lot of fun contests. People lived & died w/ their player predictions.

In an alternate universe, he doesn't veto the trade to Buffalo, catches a bunch of absolute lasers from JA17, secures a huge 2nd contract with the Bills, makes way more money than he did bouncing around the last few years, and doesn't go broke until 2026.

Idiot could’ve had it made here in Buffalo. Luckily we got a more functional idiot wide receiver instead. AB did Beane the biggest favor of his career because that trade would’ve ultimately gotten him fired.

Agree. It's the finality of so many memories, family, friends who have long since passed, but walked those corridor's, puked in the parking lot and pissed in those sinks.

Seriously, it was never the greatest stadium, but it was our home to the best, most loyal fans arguably in any sport. As well as some great players and great games.

    Let's go Buffalo!!

So many great memories and black outs.

For me it has to be Greg Rousseau. I really like the way he plays football a lot. I truly do believe that he will be a 10+ sack, meat and potato type of DE.. He has developed well over the last 4-5 years and I still think he has upside..

Honorable mention for me is Dawson Knox. I have been highly disappointed with his play over the last two years, at one point I thought he was a top 10 TE in the NFL. When he is in a groove he is an absolute menace to defenses. I really wish he would rebound and be the player that we all know and love.

    Who do you guys got???

TB is my favorite defensive play. His 2023 season was among the best I’ve seen among Bills Middle LBs. 143 total tackles, 6.5 Sacks, 3 FR, 3 INT, 10 TFL/9 QB Hits. He had a dip in production last year, but still made big plays at opportune times.

On offense Dion Dawkins is not elite, but he is consistently very good and a do-it-all “jack of all trades” type player. It’s funny how much hate he’s gotten when all he does is execute on the field. And helped get O-Linemen an award which is honestly pretty cool. I have always been a huge fan.
