  1. Here's a story line I'd like to know more about (from Sal's article). Is Murphy's spot still in danger? Presumably he's not tradeable at that number. I liked what he brought to the table last year.
  2. Because he’s the one running the show. McD was hired first, extended first, and even though he’s not OC his prints are all over the Allen pick. And if Allen doesn’t work out he’ll have final say on whatever we do next. When you’re the boss the buck stops with you.
  3. Do you think McD was expecting to be extended with two years to go? I would've wanted to wait until training camp was done to make sure Josh was looking like he would made another leap. On the other hand, maybe they know something we don't. If Josh goes the way Trubisky did in year 3 then this will look premature IMO. I get why they did it though. McD built them a culture and that's so hard to find.
  4. I'm as big of a McD fan as anyone but even I have to admit this doesn't make a lot of sense. They had him under contract for two more years and we still don't know if either of our QBs are good. If they aren't and this becomes an ongoing blind spot that's a hell of a commitment for 7-10 wins every year. Outside of the QB situation he's been excellent. Really hope this works out.
  5. I like Barnwell and agree with not just his overall assessment but on the majority of his individual points. The Tyrod comp is lazy and incorrect. Those teams were built on the backs of Shady, Richie, EWood, and some very creative and aggressive run oriented play calling. That offense was nothing like what Daboll is running. Any statistical similarities are purely by accident and don't begin to tell the whole story.
  6. I don't know but I don't think that's the right way of looking at it. Consider a scenario where the prospects are equal. Who would you rather have then? Part of the value of the draft pick is getting to make the decision. Once a player is picked, he's just a player. Herbert is just a player, but one who has two additional years of team control. Josh is someone who's two years in and hasn't proven yet to be a franchise guy. I might still rather have him but that's my bias. We haven't seen Herbert yet so we don't know for sure. Both guys felt like soft top 10 overall players coming into the draft.
  7. Picks lose value as soon as you take someone until such time that the player proves they can play at a level commensurate with where they were selected. It's the same in all pro sports leagues. The main thing Tua has going for him is no one has seen him fail in the NFL yet whereas everyone has seen Josh go through the typical growing pains you often see from a young QB. Tua also has two more years than Josh on his rookie contract which is super valuable if you think he can perform right away.
  8. Our defense is so good that even if Cam works he'll have issues vs. us. I didn't think this would happen due to fit with Pats/McDaniels. Presumably they'll change their offense and try to use more PA?? Or maybe they don't and secretly hope Stidham wins the job. It would be the most NFL thing ever to have Josh and Cam playing each other in spread the whole time trying to play read the defense.
  9. He never should have gone seventh overall so it's tough to judge him against that. IMO all the first round guys except for Lamar have lost value around the league. Baker, Sam, and Josh all have a lot to prove. Also, it took a proven guy like Cam months to find a home. Teams aren't trading high draft picks for unproven guys.
  10. Bills probably need to cut him. They're clearly buying time to see if it blows over and they can salvage their investment. It's like trying to put lipstick on a pig during the height of #metoo. Good luck.
  11. Nice try. Dak isn’t worth 135M+ even if there are no draft picks involved. I would be interested in trading for a competent back up however. Fromm might be good or he might be the second half of his last year at Georgia. Having someone experienced like Fitz or Tannehill (as examples, not necessarily saying them in particular) on the roster would give us needed insurance in the event that Josh doesn’t get better. This is a playoff roster and QB is by far our biggest question mark. It makes sense to look at alternatives.
  12. I dunno, NFL moves pretty fast these days. You don’t get 5-10 years to develop guys anymore. McBeane might find their job security doesn’t last that long. It’s smart from their POV to try and groom a second guy.
  13. Maybe Fromm could be Chad Pennington
  14. I like it. Seemingly good value in the 5th and gives McBeane a plan b if Josh doesn’t pan out.
  15. I suspect his ability to play ST will go a long ways to justifying this pick. I'm not usually a fan of one dimensional receivers. Hopefully he can block.
  16. I agree it will likely be much tougher sledding next year due to schedule, even considering Pats. I disagree re McBeane. They've done a good job addressing needs the last two off seasons. Let's not forget where we were in Jan 2019. Now we have a championship caliber defense, and have added a number of smart signings and trades on offense. If we're not a playoff team it'll be because we messed up at QB, not RT. No team is perfect on both sides of the ball. Was Cody Ford the right pick last year? I would tend to agree he was not, but I think he deserves the opportunity to come into camp and fight for his spot and show improvement in year two. Nsekhe is a very capable plan b. I've said this in other places including this thread, but I'd much rather we draft to our areas of expertise (defense) and add known commodities in the areas we're not as capable (offense). Asking McBeane to draft another OT after kinda, sorta messing up the last one is just asking for trouble.
  17. I get the people trying to label AJ as a LDE given his height and lack of umm...burst, but he definitely looks capable and if not him @ RDE then whom? Edit: I suppose it's likely that Hughes will be around next year. Even still, I like Epenesa on the right side.
  18. Is that what he said, or did he say they need to be able to establish the run? I bet it's the latter. Clearly they're team building with the idea that their offensive identity will be through their passing game.
  19. I would argue it's unclear, but I do think Allen and Daboll are a terrible fit. That said, we backed up the brinks truck for Morse and signed / traded for high IQ receivers to run a read and react system. Moving to a run / play action system better suited to Allen would require a lot of change beyond just finding a new OC.
  20. I agree we need another RB but you have to look at who our OC is and what we have in place. Our offense is clearly designed around the pass. Our Oline is a passing line. Daboll runs a read and react system between Josh and the receivers. If you want to blame someone for the lack of scoring look to our QB. He's the squeaky wheel in this offense, not the RB situation (though I don't think it's quite that simple).
  21. Yes but our expertise isn't exactly on the same level when it comes to drafting and developing offensive players. That's why we've tried to sign or trade for known commodities. We used our first on Diggs. That's a pretty big investment.
  22. D that just lost two of its best pass rushers. Our current team building philosophy of drafting defenders and signing/trading for offensive players is a good one IMO. McD's specialty is defense, and it makes sense that he'll have a much better hit rate on developing defensive prospects.
  23. I'm a big fan of guys who dominate in multiple sports. The fact he was all state in football, basketball, discus, etc. bodes well. Shades of Big Kyle?
  24. Hard to see a scenario where this guy doesn't make it. Strong bull rusher with a mean streak. This looks like a McD pick all the way.
