I’m sure he will continue to be mediocre and get paid well for being tall.
Yea, the 13 seconds debacle and KC scoring on 3 straight long drives at the end of the game, along with allowing 30+ pts to the 4 good offenses we played (Indy, KC, Tampa and Tenn)was all about 1 guy being mediocre. The rest of the defense and our coaches were great. Quick question: if Edmunds sucked so much, why did they keep putting him in the same style of defense for the last 4 seasons ? Are national football coverage reporters being paid to call Milano and Edmunds a great tandem? Maybe it's just the clueless redhots on message bds that need to blame a LB for a team getting beat in the playoffs 3 yes in a row.

Nope, it’s about context. The Bills have nobody in the Lb group that can set an edge, unless you count Miller as an LB. All too light or high centered.
There’s a difference between short and actually undersized. All those guys were just short, still built like a tree trunk. The difference in the Bills LBs is they are small. With the exception of Edmunds who is the classic, looks like Tarzan plays like Jane, they are all short and light and still not very fast, it’s basically a group of guys that weren’t fast enough to play SS.
That's gratuitous criticism of a guy who has been scapegoated for the failure of the coaches, and our defense in the last 2 playoffs. He's not fast? The best GM in the league has had the choice of offloading or drafting his successor the last 2 years and chose to keep him for his 5th year. Over a hundred tackles the last 3 years and plays thru injuries for a top 5 statistically, defensive corp.. He calls defensive signals and is great in the lockeroom, despite unrelenting criticism from knee-jerk red hots on social media. With an improved D-line, and a walk year looming, let's see what he does this year.

The "13 Seconds" tragedy can be judged as a positive only if the coaching staff can change their approach to end of game ideology. In addition, it exposed our defense as not good enough to win games in "must have a stop" scenarios. The Miller signing will help our entire defense because of his winning mentality as well as the influence on our pressure ability and "coach on the field" resume. The turnover of the D-line should help improve the entire performance of that embattled group. The final aspect of using the "13 Seconds" as a positive is the motivational value it will have on the team and the fan base. As it worked with the "Harmon drop"that catapulted the Bills to league dominance for the next 4 years, the realization that with a few tweaks and prioritizing winning all the games they should win, this team will win SBs.

Step one, have a LB who can actually set the edge, Edmunds gets tossed like a rag doll.
You actually think this kid at 215,soaking wet, will set an edge better than 245 lb Edmunds. Kiper said on the coverage that once someone gets inside his pads, he's toast. He's got good instincts and a good motor, but he's got to get into the weight room.

Seems like Lamar is starting to see his future somewhere else. He can get his money from FA as well as the runcentric, defense oriented Ravens.

Better hope Elam IS a difference-maker if he has to fill in for Tre
He didn't exactly distinguish his dominance in the SEC, but maybe they'll coach him up like they did with Levi. We can always hope. I still think Beane pulls the trigger on Haden or another FA before the camps start.

Sauce is big on confidence and bluster but does he think covering the guys on Cinn. schedule is in any way applicable to Diggs, Hill, Waddle or Davis. Call me back after he gets abused in traditional Jets fashion.

Trade up and draft Nakobe Dean from Georgia. Presto LB of the future. Once that deal is secure…
Find a trade partner for Tremaine Edmunds (mid second rounder) hopefully an NFC team, and use the pick for Breece Hall.
i don’t have positional needs and charts in front of me but this would help the cap this year and years moving forward as well as solidify the backfield.
Why would they opt for Dean when they passed on Devin Lloyd? Then they could have moved Edmunds to get HALL or the best available corner early in the 2nd. Elam is not a difference maker. The Bills have Edmunds on his rookie contract this year. He's staying and my prediction is he gets extended. He's the best option for our SB chase this year.

I like Moore also, but I have hardly seen a mock having him go in the first
Do you prefer Dotson over Moore?

Our backs are good enough if Dorsey makes running the ball more an element of the offense. With the emerging O-line with Bates , Brown, Saffold enhancing production, Devin, Johnson and Moss will be fine. The pick should be a trade up into the teens to bring in either Hamilton or an elite receiver who slips(Williams.Olave or Moore)

I definitely hope so. Plus, you don't put a rookie in as the QB of this defense during a year that we're all in on a SB run.
Unfortunately most of our brothers on the board disregard this little tidbit.

Everyone seems to forget it was Milano that gave up the TD to Kelsey in that playoff loss, not Edmunds. Our loss to NE was a long run given up by Hyde and....yep, Milano. Replay that particular play and watch Milano from the snap to the cutback. WTH was he doing? That was not on Edmunds.
My prediction, with the better D-line we assembled and the improved DBs, both giving Tremaine less of a bullseye on him, he rides this season into an extension.

Edmunds cannot ever survive the wrath of the many detractors that see him as logical scapegoat for the losses suffered at the hands of KC and the other good offenses (Tampa, Tenn, Indy) we played. The game changing plays he never made, the confusion on misdirection runs or coverage whiffs, all very accurate. However, the responsibility of covering up for a D-line with few sacks and QB pressures, a defensive plan that puts him in the crosshairs with tough matchups that usually dominate, when they know his shortcomings and despite these challenges he makes a lot of plays and calls signals for a top 5 defense statistically. The coaches never improved his pressure skill set and play him on every down. FA and the draft focused on getting to the QB in the last two seasons. Those selections failed miserably, (AJ, Addison, Rousseau, Butler) and in 2 games against KC in the postseason, Mahomes had his way. Blame the coaches and our DBs for allowing Hill, Kelce and the others for the obscene amount of passing yards. Edmunds is just an easy target.

Josh Allen is the single greatest player(in every sense)the Bills have had for the 55 years I have followed them. He has the toughness of Stratton and Sestack, the freakish talent of Staubach and Marino and the leadership of the GOAT and Montana. Whether he can get us championships remains to be seen, but as a fan that has kids and grandkids passionate members of Bills nation, I'm thankful that Beane and associates brought this guy here and made him a fixture.

Brady is a weird case for me. I spent two decades hating the dude so much, that as a football fan I couldn't enjoy the GOAT. Glad he went to Tampa, where I could shift my perspective.
At 34 I'm not old enough to remember Jordan well, nor Gretzky, nor the early 90s Bills. I wish that I'd got to see them play when I could appreciate them.
When I'm old there will be new generations that talk about Brady like that, and im glad to have the last 2 years to see him in a diff light(without stomping my testicles in). Bradys been pretty fun since he got out from the Hoodie.
Would love to see him in MIA next year so Josh can formally rip the torch from his manicured nails
Good take, something to be said for seeing the brilliance of the best ever. That doesn't mean you like him. When Josh miraculously brought us back against Tampa and the Zebras made that hometown Brady PI call after swallowing their flags when we were driving to win outright, how did you feel about him. Listen, you're a great fan, don't go by a beaten down, scarred and unforgiving lifelong Bills nut like me.
-
How do you like a generational, freakish talent that represents an obstacle to a team that you're emotionally tied to? You can respect and admire the person and incomparable will to win , that separates him from all but one or two QBs in football, but, like Brady for 2 decades, he crushed fans dreams. He would make fans frustrated their guy was in a different stratosphere. To really like a player, he can't be a threat to your future success.

When I rewatch the games I try to pay attention to edmunds when he blitz’s. From my experience, he has zero pass rush moves, bend and only tends to get pressure when he gets the step on his man or sneaks in behind a stunt. I think he’s the worst guy to have get after the QB. I think he’s best when using his size/length as a possible deterrent in the pass game, even if he doesn’t deter the best QBs. Maybe he’s working on some pass rush moves this offseason…..because he has zilch in that dept imo. Just size, speed and length.
That's exactly my point. He's got average ball skills and they never developed him as a blitzer, where he could impact a game. With his speed and length you would think he could block some throws or get some sacks. He sometimes struggles when they give him difficult matchups in coverage. In any case, with a better D-line and the motivation of being in a contract year, I look for him to have a great season.

Looking through this thread, I don’t see much bashing.
Here is the gist of many TSW members vs 49 as I see it: His contract is coming to an end and the majority of the board agreed that his ability on the field isn’t worth what his market value will be. Paying him big bucks could screw us in the long run as he’s just not a playmaker at the position.
personally, I’d be ok giving him the same contract as Milano. I think he’s an ok LB. His problem imo: lack of big plays. We hear that it’s because I of the scheme and I’m sure that part of that is true….but the other part is his lack of decisiveness imo. His processing isn’t fast enough and that’s why he doesn’t make the splash plays other LBs make. God blessed him with freaky athleticism and length and he seems to have gotten by on that to this point. His mental acuity regarding the game hasn’t progressed as we had hoped.
jmo.
If he has freakish length and speed why has the brain trust consistently put him in space hoping he sniffs out well designed underneath crossers. He makes plenty of tackles in the run game and runs down backs and QB runs. Put this man in pressure packages and let him use his assets.

How did Keyshawn get to be a credible source of judging NFL QB talent? He was a petulant jerk as an underachieving receiver with the Jets. Stephen A told him he was somewhere in outer space claiming DeSean Watson better than Josh. He lost any credibility with that imbecilic statement. Please, no more Keyshawn pronouncements.
-
Bring him on an incentive loaded, short term deal. The guy still very good.

Think they both failed in OT against Bucs… the offense went 3 and out their first position of OT.
Can McDermott's defense make a big stop in a big game? His mentality has to be more aggressive, more proactive as opposed to reactive. His players play really hard for him, but Frazier/Sean have to show teams that they can be more dynamic instead of sitting back and trying to hold teams to FGs.

Just shows you how silly Campbell is. First he downplays the importance of a franchise QB in today's NFL after winning 3 games. Then he finds the necessity to talk about the Dolphins and how their ineptitude allowed a player to be consistently liquored up at practice.

I don't think Edmunds over Knox at all. Edmunds seems replaceable to me and they should be getting that person in the upcoming draft. That Troy Anderson would do nicely IMO.
Knox didn't just have a good developmental year, he had a good year period. And he is ascending. Not only did his numbers shoot up but his blocking improved tremendously. To me, he is a core member of the offense. If Dawson would do the hypothetical 3yr/$25M, you do that now. Njoku is getting >$10M.
You haven't seen Edmunds play with a dominant D-line, and with a free agency, walk year yet. In his defense, he does a lot of things well and has not been used to maximize his speed in pressure packages at all. He runs down backs and underneath receivers as well as anybody and calls defensive signals for a top 5 defense. His instincts in space should improve and he's 23. You have rookies replacing him without a drop-off?. He will be extended guaranteed. Beane and Sean love him.
