Anyone interested in signing John Ross as a replacement for John Brown,  is the fastest man in the NFL based on his 4.22 forty yard dash. Could also be used as a KR and is only 26.  He gives us Tyreek Hill type of speed

I say yes if he is cheap. The fact that he hasn't developed is also a reflection on a Wr corps who took lots of snaps AJ Green and Tyler Boyd and this last year Tee Higgins. He has made big plays for them but has been hit by injuries.and mistakes. Of course he is an outside bet but if he comes off....

As the Dolphins look at the upcoming FA period - they see a lot of talent at DE and almost no talent at ILB.  With the cutting of Van Noy - they needed LB help and I believe much like Beane - Grier looks at what is coming up and uses that to plot a path.  Therefore you acquire an ILB to fill a position of need and open up a spot so you can aggressively pursue a better DE.  You moved the need from LB to DE at a time when the FA class has a bunch of DEs.

That works if McKinney is good. But he has been a liability in coverage and is a pure run stuff LB. The danger is that they assume the position is covered and leave it at that then McKinney actually turns out to be what he has been for the last few years. There are good ILBs in the draft.

Also, it assumes that A they can secure an FA upgrade at DE and B he lives up to his contract. If you keep bringing people in and dumping them it is hard to build a unit. I am predicting the Miami D regresses. JMO.

I get your logic though and time will tell.

The problem with trying to decide a winner or loser in this trade is - I don’t think the player for player trade was the point.

I think Miami recognized that the DE market was flooded with talent of guys similar or better than Shaq.  Conversely the ILB FA market is very limited.

Miami makes this trade to be able to go after a FA DE this year and gets an ILB that they could not find on the FA market.

If Miami is able to get a top flight DE for a good contract - they win this trade.  If they get shut out and get a mid tier out lower guy in the same vein as Shaq and have to over pay just like last year - then Houston did just fine.  Miami paid most of the bonus money end you know what you are getting with Lawson.

In a way I agree. Miami want sacks from the edge, but it begs the question why did they take Shaq in the first place?

But if McKinney is done or they simply cut him for extra cap space, then they gave up a rotational DE for an older LB who is a liability in coverage and swapped their 7th for a 5th. Was that worth it to get a bit more space when you already have plenty of cap? Can they be sure they're getting sacks in FA?Perhaps no great loss either way but it reads to me like indecisiveness.

There has been continual improvement under Flores but things are about to get harder now that they aren't playing a last place schedule. They won't have Fitz to save them next year. I think they will regret losing a solid edge setter.

  4. I don't know if your move up was necessary and it cost a day 2 pick. I don't like Gainwell and Odeyingbo has a torn achilles. A bit too high for Williams for me. This draft is not for me.

I think the Bills can consider BPA or moving back if they don't love their choices.

yep. I’m not ever gonna fault a guy for getting the bag he can when he can. But I don’t feel compelled to feel sorry when chasing said bag leads to the player being unhappy/negative career things happening.

If I leave a job I love with great coworkers and an environment that helps me be the best version of myself where I’m making 45k a year and I go across town and take a job at 50k where the culture sucks, my job is different and I can’t be as successful, and I’m miserable, I don’t really deserve anyone’s sympathy.

That's fair. The only difference being that Shaq signed a contract with Miami. He's now trapped in that contract for a different team. I know it's the rules of the game but you'd have to feel annoyed if you got 'traded' to another company ...

Touche. I can be a cracked record when it comes to pro-bowls ...

  6. Feel bad for Shaq. Imagine moving to Miami then being traded after a year to an abysmal Texans team.

Not worried about 'pro-bowl McKinney.' He didn't help an abysmal run and pass defence in Houston last year. Not every pro bowler is must have, hello Trai Turner.

Grier should be careful. He doesn't want a reputation of immediately dumping new signings as he has Van Noy and Lawson and maybe Tua? Loyalty and stability is a thing.

Who are the 3 that he thinks would be reasonable?

Sorry I phrased it badly. He thinks 4 guys would be value picks at 30, those 3 and Paye. However, he thinks all of them would be bad fits on the Bills, except Paye who is basically out of the Bills reach. I wouldn't say that I completely agree but it's a perspective.

I think you just never know. TJ Watt, and Cam Jordan are examples of late 1st rounders who are premier edges now. I know that everyone wants a 'safe' pick but there is more uncertainty than ever in this year of limited college games.

  8. Pertinent to this discussion. JM feels like there are 3 guys that would be reasonable to take at 30. He discounts Jalen Phillips (red flags), Ojulari (size) and isn't keen on Rousseau (underdeveloped rush moves). He says Kwity Paye wont make it past the Raiders at 10. For a difference now, he advocates free agency or trade.

A lot of people on this board thought Star was a problem in 2019. Now, many are seeing him as the answer in 2021. Maybe its important to draft a very big 1 tech. as insurance if not as a starter. I don’t follow college football. Would be grateful for a list of names I could research. Thanks.

The only 1 techs that I know of are Tyler Shelvin LSU and Alim McNeil NC. McNeil has had the more impressive past season (for what that's worth). Both would be excellent 3rd round picks, and could replace Star. But, Star will be the main guy this year so it's not going to be a difference making pick this year.

It's a question of how you use money in a tight-cap year. If Milano is gone you must get a new LB. I think you also need to select a player who can counteract KC, specifically Kelce. A Jeremy Chinn matchup type.

We need a new swing tackle and it's a great draft for that. You have to stay open to taking an edge. Those are both premium value positions which are needs. I think 1T may fall by the wayside as a priority.

  10. I know this guy has a lot of fans and it's a great comeback story if that's your thing. But I just don't get why a guy who had such a significant injury, who has made that much money, and who has a young family could think that playing on is a sensible decision.

He's not going to win a superbowl because he isn't good enough. I know that he has a great reputation as a mentor, but really? His comments seem really driven by ego and self-centered. I just don't get it. Most of all I hope he doesn't get badly hurt because he can't walk away.

  11. I am seeing a new name come up and I know absolutely nothing about this guy. Can someone who watches college football tell me more about this guy?

     Jamin Davis.

I see that he is number 35 on Daniel Jeremiah's top 50 draft prospects above a few other guys discussed here. Jeremiah's blurb on him sounds intriguing.

  12. Not that it matters, but Samuel wasn't a great pick for the Panthers. They traded up to get him, taking him ahead of JuJu, Courtland Sutton and Godwin.

He was injured a fair bit in his first two years, ran lousy routes and dropped some big plays. None of this should be a surprise, he was a rb at Ohio, asked to play as a slot for an inaccurate QB.

This season was his best as a result of his learning curve and Joe Brady scheming YAC opportunities for him. Hopefully he goes to a team that uses his skillset wisely.

Why would there have to be a narrative?

This is just my reading of it and I must confess that I feel some sympathy for Love which may affect my bias. He got picked by a team that had an HOF QB, had no training camp and is being labelled in some places and by some media reports as a bust which I find extremely unfair in this context.

They isolated Love form the rest of the team for the season?  I couldn't find anything on that.   In fact there's an Pat McAfee interview with Rodgers in October describing Love's progress in practice, in the locker room after games, etc.

I thought I had read something to that effect. But I can't recollect where, so I'm sure you're right.

There was a handful of teams who did. Us, Eagles, Titans, thought the Giants as well but might have made that up... not sure they were rookies admittedly... but more than just the Bills kept a 3rd QB in isolation. I would have done it and I would do it again depending on the circumstances.

The Packers did it with their first round pick. Although, the media narrative in GB is that Love "couldn't win the backup role".

Kyle Allen wasn’t even a thought to me. I’m not sure if he has the experience to really help Allen diagnose what’s going on in game, but he may be uniquely qualified to point out any technical or mechanical issues that Allen has in a game or practice due to working with Josh and Palmer in the off-season.

I don't think you bring in Allen as a mentor. He is a good friend of Josh, is cheap, and has won NFL games (I think with KA as starter the Panthers were 5-2 at one point in 2019). If Josh goes down in the short term, Kyle can do a good job. But he won't Foles you to a SB win. He loses games with bad mistakes, but I watched him drive 80 yards in a snowstorm in the fourth quarter in Green Bay to the 1 yard line. On the final play as the clock expired CMC got stuffed, so naturally Allen got no credit for what he did.
